I know the Yanks can hit better than anyone, but going down 5-0 every game isn't exactly a recipe for success.

Agreed, who needs a Phanatic or Wally when we had Freddy. A real fan as a mascot is as good as it gets.

You guys aware Cliff Lee is pitching tonight? The way the media is making it out, they shouldn't even play the game. The way I see it, the Yanks have a pretty solid post season pitcher on the hill tonight as well.

How many frying pan and spoons are in the stadium tonight?

Would be nice if the Yankees had a moment of silence or some how acknowledged him tonight.

Legendary pitching matchup. I will just sit back and enjoy as a baseball fan.

One comment - not to offend anyone, but Pettitte's playoff reputation is a little bit overblown. Not that he isn't great in the playoffs, but he's not really any better than he is in the regular season.

I theorized in the Rangers thread that if the Yankees lose tonight, there would be a tough decision about tomorrow and AJ Burnett. And if the Yankees win, the Rangers stand a good chance to tie tomorrow.

I do not believe the series is decided tonight. I think the momentum swings, sure, but do you have confidence in AJ? What if you win tonight and lose tomorrow? You have to face CJ and Lee again? And the Rangers will be facing CC and Hughes again.

These teams are very evenly matched.

I think all players playoff performace tend to be overblown. With enough games, your numbers are going to be just like they are in the regular season.

    Jeters regualr season triple slash:

    .314 .385 .452

    Postseason triple slash:

    .313 .381 .476

A player is not going to be dramatically better in the playoffs vs the regular season with an ample sample size. The whole myth of "clutch"

There is no decision with AJ Burnett tomorrow regardless of what happens tonight. He is pitching, and you never know what you are going to get. Hopefully he has a chip on his shoulder and pitches a gem.

The Yankees advantage is that it is now a 5 game series and they have 3 home games.

very possible, but hughes might do what Pettitte did when he was 24 and that was get bombed in the first start of the 1996 World Series and then pitch a gem in the next start.

OK. I would say advantage Rangers because it is a 5 game series with Lee possibly pitching twice and CJ once. That is a couple of pretty good left-handers and Lee doesn't care anything about any home field advantage, which doesn't mean as much in baseball.

Either way, I am really enjoying this. I don't hate the Yankees like Boston and whoever else does. To me, they are inconsequential as we hardly play them during the regular season. Plus, I think you have to go through the best to be the best (that sounded stupid) and this is a good taste of what it is like. I'd rather be facing the Yankees than anybody else right now. Its the Yankees! Kind of like how people enjoy beating the Cowboys more than say, the Bills.

    Looking forward to tonight!

Oh one thing i will say about post season stats. With a large enough sample wouldn't you expect stats to be lower then season averages because in the playoffs you are facing elite competition and can't pad your stats against bottom feeders? Thus if someone like jeter is able to keep his numbers around his season averages couldn't you argue that is impressive.

Oh and i'm not sure about Andy's stats but he has been on the mound for some big games. Look at last year he pitched the clinching game of every series.

It's definitely tougher in the postseason, but the stats show that Andy's reputation is just a little bit exaggerated. He has indeed pitched for teams that have not won the World Series. He has lost big games as well. He's a really good pitcher who is also really good in the playoffs. Of course, like they say, don't let the stats get in the way of the nice story.

Apparently tonight's 1B umpire is the only one in baseball who calls Pettitte's balk move.
