Has anyone heard anything more on that career spanning acoustic album they plan on releasing?
No, but I'd like to know what's up with that as well...

Do they have recordings from their early tours? I saw them open for ZZ Top, it must have been in early 92 or late 91, before they got kicked off . I'm just recently getting back into them and would love to get some of the early live stuff.
You can go to liveblackcrowes.com. They have an archive there but it only seems to go back to 1996.
Probably the best early boot is one that came from a radio recording. It is called High in Houson. Its from 1993 and the sound quality is excellent. Killer show too!!
Another good early boot is called Hard to Handle. Its from 1991 I think. And there is a third called Darlings of the Underground Press which is half acoustic and half electric and it is also from 1991.
Both of those are radio recordings too and very good quality.
If you are familiar with torrents these three are pretty easy to find. Highly recommended.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.

Thanks!! Any word on this tour if they are doing the anniversary of "Shake Your Money Maker" by playing the whole thing. I thought I had read that on here, I could be wrong though. The New Hampshire show looks tempting....
In celebration of the 20th year anniversary of their 1990 debut multi platinum release “Shake Your Money Maker,” The Black Crowes will release their first ever double album of all acoustic material on August 3, 2010.
After touring in 2009, The Black Crowes spent time at the Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, recording over 20 songs from their 20 year history. The band arranged acoustic versions of many of their best loved songs and the band’s catalogue picks.
The double album, Croweology, will be sold at the cost of a single album as a “Thank You” to their fans for 20 years of support. Also to be released on vinyl, the project was produced by Paul Stacey and will be released on The Black Crowes label, Silver Arrow, through Megaforce Records.
In late summer, The Black Crowes will kick off their “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys” 2010 Tour which will feature three hour performance sets in most markets. The shows are being billed as “Acoustic Hor D’oeuvres followed by an Electric Reception With The Black Crowes,” and will consist of a full hour and a half acoustic set followed by a full hour and a half electric set, except where noted below *.
The tour will begin on August 13 in Milwaukee and is presently scheduled to conclude with the band’s annual multi-night stand at the Fillmore in San Francisco on December 19, 2010.
Following their 2010 “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys” Tour the band has planned a lengthy hiatus.
Chris Robinson had this to say, “With a smile so wide you can count my teeth and with a heart so full of love that it is spilling over the rim, I offer a humble and simple thank you. Thank you for your time, your imaginations, your heartaches and joy. Thank you for 20 years of cosmic rock n roll. 20 years of keeping it weird. 20 years of chasing horizons and before the band that dares dream out loud puts it down for a while, we are proud to give you our Croweology. This year the music is only for you as we celebrate what has been, what is now and whatever will be”.
Rich Robinson said, “At this milestone in our career, I feel very fortunate that I have had the opportunity to spend my life making music. It’s been 20 years since we started out on this journey. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to all of our fans who have been there with us along the way. We would not have gotten here without your support. Every night I stand on the stage I feel great pride and respect for what we share with our fans. After this tour we are going to take some much needed time to spend with our families. But for now, we are very much looking forward to a great year of touring. I look forward to seeing all your familiar faces again on the road. See you soon.”
Steve Gorman added, “20 Years Gone - To look back over the past twenty years …there are so many thoughts, feelings, and memories of all shapes and sizes that it's tough to process it all. Lots of ups and downs, lots of everything. One can easily get lost in the labyrinth of those many experiences. However, there is one constant - and that's an overwhelming sense of gratitude to all of you that have supported us for the past twenty years. Our tour this year serves as a very large THANK YOU to all in attendance. Whether you have seen us one time, ten times, a hundred times, or more, it goes without saying that we wouldn't be here without you. The lives that we all lead, and the opportunities that we have been presented with, all trace directly back to your support. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! And after this tour, we'll be taking a nice, long, much needed break. We are all in agreement (no, seriously, we are!) that this is the right time to spend time with our families, friends, outside musical and non musical projects and of course, our personal lives. So, we're going out swinging with all we got. Let's all join hands and share the ride!”
Well the time has come. I knew it would. For over 20 years they have fought the good fight. Even my favorite band can no longer claim they have never sold out, not completely anyway, but The Black Crowes can. Never accepting sponsorship. Never making corporate deals. Never compromising or bowing to the will of record companies or radio trends. Doing what they want when they want. Never playing the same set list twice, pulling from 9 studio albums and a bank of about 250 cover songs, you never know what you will get.
Bands like these are a dying breed and that’s a shame. And that isn’t just nostalgia. No one else outside of Pearl Jam does this and PJ doesn’t even really tour that much anymore and has to make deals with Verizon and whoever. People like to tout Kings of Leon, and while they are great and talented and I like some songs, I am turned off by their official fashion line where you can by cut up jeans and plaid shirts just like the band for $250 a pop or whatever.
The Crowes changed up their sound with each release and took major chances going from straight rock to southern rock to spaced out hippie jams to country and bluegrass with ease. Most people think they peaked with Southern Harmony and Amorica, and while I believe that’s true, I’ve really come to enjoy the country and bluegrass influence lately. I think that last double-album (Before the Frost, Until the Freeze) was absolute genius and I still listen to it constantly. Because of them and that influence I have come to appreciate classic country music and some bluegrass. I would have never done that.
I’ve seen them more times than Pearl Jam over the years, mainly because they tour constantly. I’ve seen them at Starplex, Nokia, the Bronco Bowl (awesome venue!!!), the Bomb Factory (gone), the Dallas Music Complex (gone), Trees (gone and back), the Gypsy Tea Room (gone), Billy Bob’s, Taste of Addison, Palladium Ballroom, and probably some others I am forgetting. Nothing beat them at the Bronco Bowl though. I hate Dallas for allowing that place to go down. Since Pearl Jam's last show in Dallas, the Crowes have been here are close by 12 times.
Needless to say I am very, very sad about this. I have seen this band annually or even more than that for 20 years. I don't think I will be able to travel much or at all for this, but I wouldn't miss the Houston and Dallas shows for the world. If you love rock and roll music, do yourself a giant favor and catch one of these shows.
They say hiatus, but I don't know, it seems more permanent this time, especially with those good-bye statements. But until then, this is one Amorican that will continue to fly his freak flag high as the moon in the valley of discovery!
P.S. - Hey Pearl Jam, check it out. THAT is a fucking tour.

Absolutely brilliant post.
Although I'm saddened that they may be throwing in the towel for good...I agree with everything you've said. The Black Crowes have kept it real for 20 years and have harbored what it means to be a true rock and roll band. I will do everything in my power to see as many shows as I can on the 2010 tour.

WORD! Knew this was coming. Hope it's not permanent.
Weekend in North Carolina in September, check.
Tuesday night show in Jacksonville (blech), check.
Weekend in Atlanta in November, check.
Incredible joy after achieving all of that, check.
Incredible pain after realizing it may be years, if ever again, that I have the chance to do it again, check.
Gratitude, celebration and insane anticipation in the meantime, double check.
And yeah, Pearl Jam, THAT is how you announce a fucking tour and actually execute one that the entire nation gets to enjoy. Love you guys, but this pretty much confirms that my concert money this year is going to a little ol' band from Atlanta instead of to my favorite Seattle residents. Oh, and I'll bet the tickets are cheaper too.
Oh, and Flagg, great post... Well said, my friend.

last year's GA ticket to the HOB show here in Orlando was $49.50 before the ass-raping fees. i'd imagine with the hype, the setlists, etc, these may be a bit more than that. but still not $75 a ticket or whatever PJ is charging now.

Thanks y'all. You made some excellent posts as well!
Rocking Lions right now (underrated) and trying to figure out how to hit which shows.
Definitely Dallas and Houston. That gets me one of the acoustic/electric shows and one full electric. And both on the same weekend. So, no question there.
The Denver one may be easy to get to. Tulsa if it wasn't on Wednesday. Of course this is Pearl Jam's 20th too so I am expecting to be tapped because of that and the PJ KC and STL shows this spring.
Definitely a good news/bad news day. Sorry to read about the hiatus, but am SUPER stoked that the opening night of this historic tour will be in my backyard. 3 hr shows? Sounds like a great way for the boys to sail off into the sunset. Maybe some think their "peak" was in the Amorica days, but after Warpaint and Before the Frost..., I'd have a hard time being told they weren't at the top of their game still after 20 years.
Can't wait 'til August 13th!
Oh yeah, according to The Riverside Theatres website, tickets are $39.50 for GA and $49.50 for VIP pit tix. Riverside is mostly seats with an orchestra pit in front of the stage that they remove the seats from for some shows, hence the VIP GA status.
