I like this thread, want to hear more! Hope I didn't kill the conversation.

To add my own two pennies to people asking about the record players - yes I think you definitely do need a decent turntable that sounds good to you, otherwise you may as well stick to digital, for its strengths. The main strength of vinyl is the rich natural superior sound surely.

Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone here and show you my turntable, whilst also trying to wind-up the people who are collecting sealed vinyl. Never understood that myself.....;) (only kidding, each to his / her own!)

This is by far the best sounding record player I've owned, but certainly not the most expensive. It is just incredibly 'melodious', even playing the harder stuff. I love the way it always chimes! .....sigh......

liberate that vinyl (Sounding very fine btw......!!)

  • me and my lady love vinyl and have got our 3 year old son into it, he calls them black spinny things. his favourite vinyls are the iron maiden ones for the artwork. my lady owns a couple of first press beatles albums (not hard considering we're from the birthplace of the beatles). my most treasured is my Bruce Springsteen Born To Run first pressing with the jon landau sticker on the back (columbia got his name wrong on the first 50,000 i think) and it's got an original columbia red label. i paid £150 on my credit card on ebay, worth every penny. i also have the white label promo of born to run but the corner's been clipped. my prized pj vinyl is the 7" white vinyl jeremy. just beautiful.

That sounds good! I love Born to Run, but have so many copies on different formats I think I better try and stay away from looking for the first pressings. Would be very nice, but it's hard to set foot out of your front door these days without leaking cash from every opening isn't it....?

I have a few Beatles early editions, quite a lot in Mono. I was round my friend's house some years ago and he said 'damn, I forgot it was your birthday....erm, why don't you take all these records....'. 2 years later he said to me 'Oh, my Dad was wondering what happened to all his vinyl and I told him I gave it to you'.

I said 'well, does he want it back.....?'

    my friend said:

'Well, he never fucking plays them anyway, keep em!'

So, I got a Mono please please me, a Mono Help, and even a Mono UK Velvet Undergound & Nico with completely different sleeve (verve records). Just looked on ebay and these things are going for around £250 a shot! (Please don't tell my friend's Dad.....).

I'm not sure I'll ever sell any of my vinyl, unless I'm destitute. I sometimes swap stuff . I used to send the limited PJ UK coloured vinyl over the water to a guy on this board (eg, 'eggshell blue' NAIS). I'd buy two copies when they reached the shops here and send him one, and he'd send me bootlegs and stuff. Nice guy.

At the moment the majority of my pearl jam vinyl is being stored by my brother who's supposed to be returning it to me. Have slightly lost track of what I have and haven't got, beyond the studio albums. I remember buying my girlfriend at the time the Jeremy picture disc (the hand one). Wish I'd kept it away from her, might have saved us both a hell of a lot of trouble!!

Hmmm, the thing about me is I tend to improvise. I haven't put any photos up here before, so I just uploaded them up next to my profile and then copied the link across I think. Is that unusual? I'm not too techie.

When the rest of my vinyl arrives I'll take stock of what I have and post some pics here if they are of interest.

    Hey Dirtyfrank!

I've realised the single solitary piece of Maiden vinyl I own is here at home with me, rather than elsewhere. It's a very cool object actually – the disc is one side music, and the other side signatures of the band set in the vinyl. Think that's why I bought it when it came out.....

I'm not totally attached to this, so if you or anyone else here wanted to discuss a swap, I may be open to it (pm me). You can't play the b-side – just admire it! (I seem to remember I was planning to try playing it one night whilst under the influence of some noxious substances, but got talked out of it!)

'Infinite dreams Limited Edition poster bag, Special autographed disc, Maiden England 1988' it says on the cover sleeve (which folds out to poster).

Fortunately this is not amongst the parts of my vinyl collection which will now forever smell of aniseed (....had a young woman back at my place one time, and it seemed like a good idea for us to both get drunk on Ouzo; until she managed to spill half the bottle over some of my prized possessions!). I've become quite fond of the aniseed scent actually, it adds a certain something to some of the records.....! :)

Anyway, here are some pics of the object in question

  • i actually own that piece of wax. pearl jam and maiden are the only 2 fan clubs i have ever joined. i was in a rush last night and didn't give a good enough run down of what i own.

another of my beauty's is my japanese aerosmith gold greatest hits from 1978 with the obi strip and still sealed, it was a steal, £3 from a charity shop, i've seen it on the web for like £40+
i own all the springsteen vinyls especially the live 75-85 box set, that is something special to look at and listen to on a rainy day.
since the gaslight anthem came out i've bought everything they've done on vinyl (all in one day and it came to about £100 cos of a rare white vinyl limited to 500 copies of the 59' sound)
i'm gonna stop now cos i'll be here all night.

    here's my pj collection
jeremy 7" white vinyl, daughter 12" poster sleeve, vitalolgy (sealed), not for you 7" (black), spin the black circle 7" (black), ten redux, ten 180g, who you are (uk 7"), life wasted 7", the fixer (uk number 227/9999),just breathe 7" should be here this week. if i was richer i'd own everything as would we all.
    VIVA LA VINYL.

    Nice. Viva la vinyl indeed!

I think that Springsteen Live box-set was what launched me into twin obsessions with rock music and vinyl.

I remember studying for my exams aged 15 or so, and me and another girl in the class were both getting that box-set for Christmas (It wasn't cheap!!). I think we were almost in a Bruce frenzy by the time December got underway. Was a good class actually, waiting for the teacher people would always sneak up and scrawl a load of lyrics on the board, a whole mixture. That's how I first heard Bat of Hell actually!

I remember listening to Bruce do his talking bit before the River on that set and thinking 'is music supposed to make you cry!?'

That intro on its own converted one of my friends overnight from being a boss-hater to being a massive fan. That is a damn good collection, you're right. Miles better on vinyl!

you can save yourself some cash and get the pro-ject dIII http://www.needledoctor.com/Pro-Ject-Tu ... tegory=352. excellent table, arm, and bearing, classic looks like the rega and all for a cool $350-$400 depending on where you buy.

    also comes in colors

  • There are a few thing that make the Rega little bit better:
    1) the RB-301.
2)It also comes with a power supply which makes it more stable and improves sound significantly. It also allows swithing from 33 to 45 by pressing a button.
3)Also, the plater is made out of glass which is a better than the steel platter on the Pro Ject Debut 3.

I know it is alot more expensive. This basically is why I am still waiting, to put more cash aside for this. At the same time it gives me more time to make sure I want to invest thatmuch money on it. I'm not saying no to a Pro Ject TT yet.

Also I received this few weeks ago. I paid 120$ cdn on Amazon.ca for it. Brand new. Their price is way below the price from other stores!

i agree completely, just wanted to give some of the casual vinyl fans a alternative to spending that kind of money but still being able to get a decent table. like all things, you do get what you pay for and the rega is more expensive for a reason. if someone is on a budget i would recommend the pro-ject.

Is the NY worth the money? I was looking at it today and not sure, seemed a it steep for what you get. Most of the records are easily available for less.

I picked up a copy last night. Thanks for the heads up!

Does it come with a mp3 download link? I saw that his site had something about download codes but wasn't sure if it applied for this collection.

Also got a copy of Neil Young's Live At Massey Hall on 200g and The Black Keys - The Big Come Up on colored vinyl.

    This stuff is like crack!
