Yes - I want an incredible setlist tomorrow night! Maybe they'll play Tremor Christ again...(please!!!)
I will say that the LA crowds, first experience thus far, are much more reserved than other I have seen (east coast). Pearl Jam was ready to bring the house down tonight but the crowd did not match their energy.I hope each night the fans will get more vocal. With that being said, the show was fucking great and certainly worth downloading for the opening set. Porch was great, insignificance was better than usual, and the why go opener was fukin awesome.
new songs sound great.

Seats were close (10th row) but all the way on Mike's side. My left ear will be ringing for days-- or at least until tomorrow's show when I will try to balance things out by damaging my right ear.
Walking out of the venue, a guy behind me was asking his friend what Eddie meant by "number one."
163xxx here-- got Orchestra Section 9, Row KK. That's the farthest section on Mike's side, but ten rows from the stage, as mentioned above. Because of the way the seats wrap around, there were no rows of the pit between Section 9 and the stage. We were right under the speakers, though. It sounds like I am in the shower right now, even though I am quite dry.
I hope you are right. I dont want people to get all hot and bothered here like Seattle (granted the band didnt say anything). It was just a noticeable difference compared to any other PJ show i've been to. The crowd just didnt give as much back. It got better as the night went on without a doubt, but there was certainly much to celebrate early on and the crowd didn't seem to notice much. It by no means made the show less enjoyable.

What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
Also, i couldn't get a soundcheck, and i think nobody could. From the gate, it's about a 5 min walk up a path to get to the Amp. so you wouldn't be able to hear it.

Back to the show though, 2 song shorter than most on this tour, but very memorable nonetheless! Opening Why Go into Animal... Big Wave, RATS! Tremor Christ!! Red Mosquito, SOLAT, the crowd seemed much more into Just Breathe, The End, and Unthought Known than in Seattle, and they were all awesome of course. Oh, and the premiere of Force of Nature, crowd seemed thrown off (1st time understandable I guess), but it was amazing, hope it doesn't become a rarity.
Anyway, show awesome, can't wait for tomorrow!
10c tix tomorrow. how were the 10c tix tonight?
Anyone know the story re: the kid that Ed called up on stage? That was a great moment!
10c # 217xxx got me Orch 7 Row 18. Great view on Mike's side. Didn't really pay attention to the rest of the crowd, but I thought the energy was great where I was. A lot of singing, dancing in the aisles, etc.
And I loved how Amphitheater is misspelled on the poster (AMPiTHEATER)..I think it's intentional.
Can't wait 'till tomorrow night!!!
Also I got Orchestra 1 and I just joined Ten Club in May, dead center awesome view.
This show was an assault on our psyches. As stated just above, Why Go into Animal let us know they were coming out firing. Perhaps it was the fact that Mike was watching Iron Maiden for an hour and a half just before they went on--or at least that's what Eddy told us as he intro'd Present Tense. He told a story of visiting a doctor recently who told him it seemed he had some heavy metal inside of him (I don't know if this was a heavy metal poisoning thing or not). Anyway, he told the Doc he must have him confused with Mike McCready as he introduced PT, Eddie said they were about to play a pretty song, but Mike does it on a Heavy Metal looking guitar (The Flying V).
After the blistering open, they hit us with the surprise of the night, Tremor Christ. In all honesty, not my favorite song but only the second time I've seen it live in my almost 30 shows, so it's still welcome.
Eddie commented early, I think before Force of Nature, that he was happy to playing this venue which is 1/4 the size of the Forum and also because he doesn't have to stare up at Dick Cheney's a**hole. This was a refernce to the 7/6/09 show at The Forum where he said the roof looks like the former VP's third eye. Also before FON, he said they were going to debut a new song from the album that they hadn't played and that it relates to the Ocean, just like nearly every song of theirs. Later giving us Big Wave and Amongst the Waves--reiterating this one's not about the ocean per se, but about a relationship riding high-up a good wave as opposed to the kind that crash down on your head.
Even Flow shredded--more to the point, Mike McCready did. Those who have commented that they are happy the band has left out EvenFlow and Corduroy and Alive must have a short memory of just how much Mike comes alive on this song. While yes, there are a few songs I dion't need to hear again (I'm talking to you, Jeremy), Even Flow is a gift from the Guitar G-d himself. Tonight's solo, played almost entirely behind the neck was drawing wide-eyed admiration from Ed--once he returned from off-stage smoking his cig. He just killed it.
Insignificance felt more raw and and angry then any other time I;ve heard it live. It will replace any previous version for which I own the boot and create a 'mix-tape' concert of the best versions. Not to get too Cameron Crowe but it was incendiary.
Rats and Down were also played with a greater urgency. The guys seemed to be having as much fun as were. I was sitting on Mike's side, 3rd row behind the pit (Thank you 10c'er Matt for hooking me up on the day of!) and Mike seemed to just enjoy the heck out of playing Down.
It took a few listenings for me to get into Backspacer as a whole. But it was after the third or fourth time that I started to understand why I was falling so hard for the songs--and this was demonstrated even more tonight during the live performances of Amongst the Wave, Force of Nature and Just Breathe. Forgive my lack of musical knowledge or if I use the wrong terms, but the choruses for these songs build to an amazing crescendo (ATW), or a wonderful melody (FON) or feature brethtaking harmonies (JB)--same for Speed of Sound which I hope I hear at one of the other LA shows. Tonight, live, they were chill inducing.
So glad I got to see Ben Harper do RM. That he plays his part on an accoustic slide surprised me because it rocked so hard. You could also see all of the guys getting off on watching Ben and getting to play with him.
The thing everyone will be talking about from the show is State of Love and Trust. This is because as they moved into the musical interlude Eddie pointed to someone in the audience, and the next thing we know, a kid in a Pearl Jam t-shirt is pulled on stage by security. I'm guessing he was 15 or so. Eddie stands him next to him and invites the kid to sing the "And the barrell waves, trigger shakes aimed right at my head, won't you help me" end of the song with him. The kid was in shock at first and then started matching Eddie --the kid clearly has seen them live or heard the boots enough to know where the Yeah Yeahs and ooohs go. After the vocals end, Eddie walks the kid over to Mike as he's soloing. Eddie tries to get the kid to go down on his knees in praise of Mike, but the kid doesn't get it. He stands there as Eddie backs away and the kid's eyes go wide and his arms go wide, looking at the corwd to say "Can you believe I'm standing in front of the this Rock G-d as he's blistering another solo!" Eddie and the crowd are laughing and cheering for the kid, with Mike patting him on the shoulder after he finished.
After RITFW, Mike kept his guitar on and asked Jeff if they were going to play one more--it seemed he was ready to go into YL, but Jeff shook his head, the guitar came off of Mike's body and the evening was over.
I can't say I blame them. They gave it everything tonight. I couldn't be happier that the 4 LA shows are separated by 4 days for me to recover. I'm almost 39 now, and while I dance and sing and fist pump my heart out at every show, I don't jump as much or as high. I;ve gotten old. And somehow, they haven't. I wasn't suppose to go tonight. I have 10c tixs for LA2, and Ticketmaster for LA3 (and 10c for SD), but it was in reading what everyone on this board has been saying about the Seattle/Portlannd/Vancouver/SLC shows that made me think: "I really shouldn't miss any opportunity to see this band". So I thank you all for inspiring me to comb the boards/craigslist/ticketmaster to see what I could drum up for LA1--and I got a beauty.
If you love the band enough to read my long-winded description, then you really can't afford to miss them. They're doing something that grows more special by the day. Making interesting/compelling new albums, and kicking ass live.
I think they know we expect it. And they are refusing to let us down. It sometimes hurts how much I love this band and how much I miss them when I don't have another show to attend.
Thanks for indulging me.
