My man won concert tickets last weekend and we went to see Hellyeah and some local bands at the House of Blues in Cleveland. It's a really wonderful venue and we had a great time!

I fell asleep watching tv for about four hours before the cat woke me up. I cleaned out her box, turned the lights off and went back to bed but I'm wide awake.
So am I up for the day now? I dunno what to do. It's too early to do anything, got about two hours yet before it's socially acceptable to make noise. Normally I'd go for an early breakfast but my coffee shop got shuttered last year (after 50 fuckin' years mind you) to make way for some yuppie Italian joint which is a travesty.

Blech...I woke up early (thanks cat), and my eyes are all full of goo.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
Got woken up with peals of thunder, clatters of hail, and my poor kitty screaming and cuddling so close he almost suffocated me.. This was followed by our roomate knocking on my Bedroom door to ask that I help him and my step moms and my dad sandbag the backyard...It's going to be one of those days..
I need a vacation....PJ needs to come to the UK...this waiting's drove me maaad!!!!!!
Listen to that lady! She knows what she's talking about!

So......... It's official.. Well it will be by the end of this storm set... I think I could survive living in Oregon or Washington..... I'd be miserable.. But I think I could do it! Lol
No. I don't band birds. My husband, the park naturalist, has volunteers who come out to their park to band birds. It's basically putting a mini license plate on their one leg, then tracking migration patterns, breeding, size and so forth. Today, they were swabbing them.
After many years of hard work, we got our little property designated as a Monarch Waystation with Monarch Watch. While we don't band birds, we do tag Monarchs during their migration in late August - mid October. Tagging Monarchs is not quite as detail oriented as bird banding in its collection of information, but a similar concept. We purchase the tags through Monarch Watch and send our report back to them. Because my gardens were basically taken out by the winter two years ago, I didn't even tag last year. Our research confirms larger scope research-- numbers are going down. Here's one tagged:
And letting it go, but it decided to hang out a minute.
^^^Wow, that's really cool! I had no idea you could tag butterflies - they seem too delicate. I have a friend who has helped to band hummingbirds in the past - they also need little teeny bands, and are tricky to catch because they move so darn fast.

It's not so bad...I love it here in Oregon...you get used to the rain, and most times it's not a heavy rain, it's just a drizzle...constant though...lol

Gary and Jill put up a net and they fly into it. That's how they catch the variety of birds that they do. They did have a hummingbird in the net earlier, but they banded and released it before we got there. They were out at about 4:30 AM. Um, I assure you that I was not there that early at all. We got there at about 9 AM.

This is soooo awesome! I worked with a group in KC that banded Red Shouldered Hawks. It was really cool to see how they gathered the info. Did NOT know you could tag Butterflies!
I didn't even know you could touch butterfly wings. I guess that old thing about how touching them makes them unable to fly is just an old wives' tale.
