maybe its me but Eddies singing on backspacer hit an all time low. sounds out of breath, tired and out of it.
Album is fair but nowhere near as good as any of the previous albums...Give me Binaural over this.
Oh well i guess it had to happen eventually...even the Beatles had their low point.

Heres hoping for a better effort on the next one.

  • i love this album and think eddie sounds good on most of it. however, i do agree that the years of strain on his throat from screaming out tunes and smoking american spirits is beginning to take its toll.

You are absolutely, positively nuts. That's all I can say. He sounds so fucking good on this album. So fucking good. Spine-tingling good.

Maybe invest in better speakers. Or better Prozac.

There was maybe about a 15-minute window on Saturday afternoon, like from 3:34 to 3:49 in the afternoon, when we got to revel in the release of Backspacer.

Then these nancies showed up bitching about silly things, and this place sucks again.

You know, it didn't occur to me that the original poster might have been being sarcastic. If he was, and this is all some big tongue-in-cheek joke, then my apologies.

Otherwise ... whew. You might want to talk to your doctor.

  • Honestly, the only album they have that I think Eddie kind of lacks on is Riot Act, and the only reason I say that is because I don't think he displays a lot of energy on the heavier songs on the album. He sounds great on Thumbing My Way and Love Boat Captain, but I think Save You could have had more to the performance. The Avocado and Backspacer he's full of energy again and sings with a lot of aggression!!!

Not to say that I don't LOVE Riot Act (as I love all of Pearl Jam's albums) but Eddie sounds great, and always has.

considering hes 44, and has been screaming and smoking for 25 years now (im sure he screamed and smoked b4 that), i think he sounds pretty good. Sure he sounded better in the early days but people get old what the fuck do you expect to happen?

listen to unthought.... how can you question ed yelping "gems and rhinestones!"
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

...even the Beatles had their low point

not to get off post, but where was their low point?

I believe their whole oeuvre was brilliant.
  • Oh God shut up with the crying ass bullshit threads!

When they broke up, and then John Lennon got shot.

no, the beatles low point was when McCartney recorded those god awful songs with michael jackson in the 80s.

  • Obviously, the pipes aren't quite what they were in the late 90s, but backspacer is far and away better than Avocado vocally. Eddie is straining and grunting to hit notes so much in self titled it's terrible.

  • RA is worst by far. S/T Ed was a little ragged, but not bad.

I pretended that never happened. Lennon getting shot is a better memory.
