Jesus, get a life, I was at both shows and they kicked ass! :o
im sure that both shows they kicked ass! but the more energy the crowd give the more energy the band gives back,,its a rock concert, not a theater play.

  • it seems to me that the crowds are better outside of seattle when it comes to pearl jam these days. i've seen them in san diego the most often and i have to say the crowds there are pretty fucking great. lots of older friends and family at the seattle shows.

i think the craziest crowd i've ever been in was the columbia show last year. but i suspect that was due to the fact they hadn't played the south in forever and they had never played columbia.

Paying $80 doesn't entitle you can ruin the show for people surrounding you. The people around you paid to hear Eddie sing so just fulfill your fantasy of being a rock star in the shower.

It always seems so relative to me when it comes to how good a crowd is. I've been to shows where I thought the crowd wasn't that great or singing very loudly, then hear the bootleg and am surprised at how loud the place was. But when you're sitting in a bad section, it tends to make the whole crowd seem lame.

Also, I do agree that European fans seem to be really good crowds. But they also cheer wildly for soccer, a sport with little action and little strategy, so they seem easy to please. I actually find European soccer crowds more entertaining than the sport they're cheering for.

That is like saying NBA Basketball has no strategy. T

I can't say enough about the rafter raising noise. It was the perfect storm for me. Band sounding great. Crowd very loud. Awesome setlists. Both crowd and band feeding off one another. Totally disagree with the thread premise.

  • I love how people non-stop bitch about what others are doing at a concert. Do the bitchers even watch the show? It appears unlikely with how much crowd observation is being done. Unless there are people next next to me or even remotely near me that are causing a commotion I don't even notice a single person because I'm focused on the band. Maybe all the bitchers should try that next time, you might actually get a chance to see the whole show; it's an amazing concept.

of course everyone would be like the south american crowds if they didn't get to see the band for 14+years. the south american crowds are way overhyped. they would go ape shit for pink or some other cheesy artist. why does everything have to be a contest on here. enough with comparing crowds. its so silly to be a critic of a crowd at a concert that you weren't even at. i have over 150+ live shows of pj and ed and anything else related to pj on my ipod and never once have i ever cared for the crowd or critiqued a crowd.

i would be like too if i won the front row lottery tickets through the 10c. not everyone gets a chance to be front row at a concert everyday. the band knows this and that's why they've never said anything bout crowds.

I like to hear you are able to submerge yourself and only focus an the band. I love to hear you are so emerged you do not notice those around you.
    We all try that.
I go out on the weekends totally hyped to hear a live band and go dancing with friends.
If the patrons at the venue are just there because they got free tix, do not know what or who they are viewing
or are just there to have something to talk about in the office on Monday, well yea, they have influence on our intimate experience. If they just stand around with hands in pockets or texting, thier vibe has effect on others there. And when you try to get them to engage in the energy, to dance or even chat, they give you a sideways glance and snigger, making you feel on the outer. They do effect our experience.
Thats all we mean, we're not the bitching types.
    :) Have a nice day / night.
  • the crowds were ok. people expect seattle to be rowdy since its seattle....but seattle as a whole doesn't give a shit about pearl jam anymore. they have some friends and family there and some fans....its far from their largest/most rabid fanbase in the US.

the crowds in new york, philly, boston will always be the best crowds this band gets in the US. feel free to cll me out for east coast bias, but its true. there are more hardcores in these cities and people who live in one of these cities are likely to travel to the other 2 for shows.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status

Duude I was looking around on the side sections and everyone was standing up rocking out maybe it was just your section?

maybe it was a section thing; maybe cahoots is just trying to yank our chains. I sat in a totally cool section for night one (Sec 127). I, too, was glancing around and thought the place was pretty much going nuts, all night. Maybe not the greatest crowd ever, but it certainly didn't "suck."
Why the hell couldn't i bring a beer down to my seat?
They said that with the lights down you could have (God forbid) passed it to a minor.

In retrospect, I think it was a good rule.....for me. I drank plenty, before the shows, both nights.

A very good friend of mine traveled from Mexico to seattle, and she told me that the crowd was not as good as Mexico or south america, but she also told me that seattle II was the best concert she has been in all her life, so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

i know im a little late on this thread....but i couldnt agree more with the OP..... i flew out to seattle in 2000 from NYC..went to the KEY arena shows both nights.... AND THE CROWD was so boring made the rest of the night kinda blaaa..... thats the reason why i will never go to a seattle show again.........

Is it really that difficult to understand that it's hard to have crowd surfing during "Just Breathe"? Does it take a degree from an Ivy League school to get that some of this band's best stuff is slower? Do you need a calculator to figure out that 45 year old guys can't maintain the same energy level they did 18 years ago for an entire show and need to pace themselves, thus slowing things down a bit? The concerts were fantastic, and the fans were fine. Life is good.

THERE shouldn't even be a contest in the first place. the band doesn't feed of the crowd. its all part of the act and bull shit that band gives you. I've been to concerts where a band has more energy than the crowd did. learn how to quote. not that hard people :lol:. i als ould like to add that msg is the most over rated concert venue in the world. everyone plays at msg these days.

Just got back from the show in Seattle. Great performance - the boys rocked it

The crowd was dismal. We had awesome seats right beside the stage, lower level - and we were surrounded by a sea of people with their arms crossed or their hands in their pockets.

Now I know we're in hard financial times and that at 8 bucks a beer its hard to have fun at the Key - but seriously folks, after a 5 year drought the welcome PJ got was shit. Boring and pathetic. The energy was gone. Not the first time I have seen Seattle shit the bed when it comes to a rock show.

Disappointing - you should know better.

Oh and BTW if you are going to participate, don't fucking sing soprano to a baritone and dont sing songs you dont know the words to, in fact just dont sing at all- you drunk fuck.

    Bullshit

You want people to be lively, but only if they sing correctly?

Thats like saying you want a girl to be a slut for you, but not other guys!
