holy crap.
just finished listening to Let It Be. wow. the sound is impeccable!
Can't wait to get there. I got the mono box this afternoon and am listening to all the albums in order after giving Mono Masters a spin. I'm on "With the Beatles" at the moment. These early songs that I never really liked that much have really come alive. I picked up AR and LIB, and will probably pick up two more this week to give em a spin. I'm thinking white album and....? Any suggestions?
Has anyone heard both the mono and stereo sets to some of these albums to do a comparison?
The only album I've hard both the mono and stereo for is please please me. And I gotta say the stereo was a bit disappointing for me. I was really looking forward to hearing twist and shout in stereo but the mixing was kinda lame imo. They just put all the vocals on the right earphone that's it! Maybe the other albums are better in stereo...

The later albums are really good in stereo....though there are still instances where the vocal is in one speaker (Mr. Kite, Elanor Rigby) and it's songs like that that I prefer in mono.
The remastered stuff went on sale here in Australia yesturday and was sold out nationally by mid-afternoon.
$400. Mono box set, $360. stereo. Record label EMI are quoted as saying they did not plan to make more copies of the Mono set. Congrats to those who got them.
:( I didn't have the money. I'v spent all my money on PJ tix and Backspacer
i just ordered the stereo box from amazon. still 2 to 4 weeks before they get more in and ship them out, but i can't wait! super-psyched to hear how 'the white album''s remaster sounds.
After much debate, I ended up getting Revolver, The White Album, and Abby Road. I'll get the others eventually.
I was going to get Sgt. Pepper, since that was the first CD I bought (along with Dark Side of the Moon), but my 2 y/o daughter likes several songs on Abby Road, so I went with that
I ordered the mono box set a couple of weeks ago. Amazon was sold out, but I ended up scoring it through Amazon UK. Because of this, I have a more days of waiting until it arrives. My local indie store had a ton of the stereo box sets in, so I'll probably be picking one of those bad boys up this weekend. I heard part of Revolver in the store the other day, and it sounded GREAT.

I found it interesting that The Beatles used to issue christmas lp albums to their fan club members. Did many other bands do this at the time? I was wondering whether PJ got the idea from The Beatles or some other band. Or maybe they just thought it was something cool to do.

There is a Hendrix one that you can get from auralexploits.
how about the bass in I Want You (She's So Heavy)? Or the bass in every song on every album. The bass and harmony vocals are the most enhanced parts of these remasters in my opinion.
I agree, but also RINGO's drumming stands out like never before! I got the stereo box last night at my local Best Buy (by the way, I tried to buy it online yesterday afternoon with local store pickup, and the website showed it unavailable at every store in Ohio! I started searching other stores in remote states, i.e., Montana, North Dakota, Vermont, and virtually every store was showing "unavailable". I took a chance anyway and went to my local Best Buy, and lo and behold, a box set was sitting on the shelf. So if you haven't actually gone to the store and looked, it may be at your local Best Buy even if their website says "unavailable".)
Anyway, Ringo's drums are INCREDIBLE in Strawberry Fields, Rain, Glass Onion, and, well, every damn song on Abbey Road and Let It Be.
For those of you asking why you need to buy these albums again, let me just say that I've heard these songs hundreds of times, have 'em all on vinyl and most on the 1988 crap cds, and these remasters are a freakin' revelation. Hey Jude alone was worth the $200 I spent.

Dude, you're among friends here. There's nothing weird about buying these (or being obsessed with these) remasters.
But I feel sorry for ole Dr. Ebbetts. What's he going to do with his life now?

I remember hearing that PJ got the idea from The Beatles.
I stopped by Best Buy on the way home and bought the rest of their albums:
With the Beatles
Hard Day's Night
Pastmasters
The White Album
I'm off tomorrow so I'm planning to see how many I can get through.
So far I listened to Revolver and Abbey Road on Stereo, and Revolver on Mono. So I'm done with 2 albums, I got 14 to go lol.
Which Revolver did you think sounded better? I've gone all the way from Please Please Me to Sgt Pepper on Mono I did skip a handful of songs on Beatles for Sale and Help! though.
I listened to Sgt Pepper loud with the lights off last night and I thought it sounded amazing..It was as if the old cd was just a demo version. 'The Beatles' was the first real band I enjoyed growing up so its great to hear the songs the way they were supposed to be heard.

Picked up Revolver and AR yesterday. Was skeptical of how much of a difference there could be. I will probably end up buying them all now....awesome. Every instrument, especially the more subtle ones (cowbell, tambourine, rhythm guitars, bass), just seem so much more pronounced. Great to listen to w/ the headphones on!

I have to say I'm really disappointed they limited the number of mono sets being produced. I wish the would have just had one box set, not limited in production, with the stereo and mono releases. Then for those not interested in the whole set could buy the individual stereo releases. It's just a real shame so many people will go without hearing the mono releases, as (from the albums I've heard so far) they're fantastic.
Don't get me wrong, the stereo releases are superb as well, but people should really have a chance to get their hands on the mono set.

I wouldnt say either sounded better. They are both awesome, but definitely different.

The mono set is still available on Amazon.com. I'm still making my way through the Mono set..I just finished disc one of the white album. Should have the entire catalog done by the end of the day

I just have Abbey Road to go and then my journey through the Beatles catalog will be at its conclusion. I don't know what I'll do next. :(

The White Album is their best album - hands down. I don't understand how anyone could disagree. The White Album is a class above everything else they did.
