I've just downloaded the remastered versions of Revolver, Abbey Road, White Album and Sgt Peppers out of curiosity. I only really download leaked albums to see if I want to buy them or not. If I like them I'll buy them, if I don't I delete them (years of working in a music store means I still have a love for the actual physical albums).
I still have the original vinyl issues of every Beatles album (my Dad gave them to me) so I'm not sure if I'll buy the new versions yet or not

ok, having heard a lot of the new remastered stuff i think i'll be getting all of them asap... 1st one i ever bought was Magical Mystery Tour many many years back... so i'll just start with that again i think... out of nostalgic reasons.

The new stuff is so much better... i love the distinction between instruments and voices... Because nearly blew my mind... and as for Helter Skelter, Eleanor Rigby, A Day in the Life... fuck me... it's salubrious i tell thee 8-)

i thought the same... but having heard them Cate, its like hearing it with new ears... some wee bass riff comes out that you've just never heard before, or the guitar at start of Revolution is just spine-tingling...

ugh... you guys drive me nuts... youre so fucking anal about this shit. but... i have to admit.. some wee bass riff is apt to get me off as much as the next thing. ;) however...the albums are a product of their time and tis within that context that i choose to listen to them. 8-) if theres some way you can make them shake my maker more than they already do then please by all means be my guest and PM me. my expectations are high so please do not disappoint me. ;)

I just called a local music store and the owner told me he was surprised to be getting 8 mono box sets this week. More than even the Best Buys in the area. He got my information and said I was guaranteed to get it as long as I showed up for tonight's release party.

I've been reading Beatles forums all day and this seems to be a hard to get set so I think I lucked out!

i still don't know what to buy first!!!!!

The guy who has organised the new remasters says that the White Album has benefited the most from the new scrub-up...

Me neither and I probably never will. However I'll give the remasters a listen if I can.

  • I got really lucky and managed to get a mono box at best buy. They were giving out vouchers this morning and when they got to the guy in front of me they only had one mono box left. I was thinking aww fuck if only I were a bit earlier. But the guy in front wanted the stereo box. So I took the last mono box! :)

These things are sold out all over the place in my area. I got off work at 2:30 and went to 4 stores within a 20 mile radius. The best buy clerk laughed at me when I asked if they had any more. Said they were sold out within a half-hour. So, kinda bummed I came home and checked Amazon and found that they are available now and will be here within a month and are $20 less than the retail stores ($180). So I scooped one up. I don't really care about the wait. These songs have been around for 40+ years so what's another month?

how about the bass in I Want You (She's So Heavy)? Or the bass in every song on every album. The bass and harmony vocals are the most enhanced parts of these remasters in my opinion.

Can't wait to get there. I got the mono box this afternoon and am listening to all the albums in order after giving Mono Masters a spin. I'm on "With the Beatles" at the moment. These early songs that I never really liked that much have really come alive. I picked up AR and LIB, and will probably pick up two more this week to give em a spin. I'm thinking white album and....? Any suggestions?

Has anyone heard both the mono and stereo sets to some of these albums to do a comparison?
