What's the necessity for this?? You can get perfect copies that are probably gonna sound 10x better for cheap, already.

Not sure if I follow? I'm still a bit of a newb to the tecnology behind vinyl ........But used copies are hit and miss in terms of how the records were cared for and why wouldn't the remastering and cleaning up process provide a better pressing? :?
Yeah, a pristine original copy probably would sound just as good (no way it would sound "10x's better" with all of the cleaning up they're doing of the original masters) but sure as hell wouldn't be cheaper than buying a new remastered copy on vinyl, unless they're way overpriced.

Pristine copies of Beatles' albums are easy to come by. They don't have to be the originals to sound good.

10x was an exaggeration for effect. I apoligize if anybody actually thought the Beatles could sound 10x better.

It would be nice to have some heavier vinyl, I just don't see the benefit of paying what they would charge.

With most albums I've come across, the reprints hardly ever sound as good as the originals.

which is why i asked...my beatles vinyl (only a couple albums) are hand me downs from my brother and sisters from the 60's...needless to say they didn't take really good care of them so it's near impossible to listen to them..so i thought i'd ask if the remasters were going to include vinyl...

When you say pristine you mean used pristine? Aren't new sealed copies like this reprints from the 1988 realease?

anyway.. i did a google search, which did indeed take less than 5 seconds... but it in no way told me anything other than rumour and conjecture... kinda like searching for "jfk grassy knoll".. you'll get results but not much truth ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Well, in this case, they are reissuing MONO records, which are NOT cheap to come by in any condition. You will spend AT LEAST 2X the cost of the MONO Box Set to get original MONO recordings of those albums.

what's the difference between these and when they remastered them a few years ago? i remember when the Doors did this with that boxset there was no difference between those remasters and the remastered copies they previously released

I thought the Beatles had notoriously neglected to remaster anything, up to this point.

hmm maybe they have, but didn't they rerelease everything in 2000 or so? i figured they would've remastered them then

Nope....according to the article in Rolling Stone, this will be the first remastering on the catalog....oh, I'll probably pick up Abbey Road first.

The only thing that was remastered was the #1's compilation back in 2000.

    "1" was remastered (poorly).

"Yellow Submarine" and "Let It be Naked" were completely remixed from the ground up.

The White Album has several differences between the mono and stereo. Here's some of the top of my head.

Back in the USSR - The mono version doesn't have hand-clapping during the guitar solo and the airplane sounds throughout the song are in different places.

Wild Honey Pie - A vocal that is buried in the mix in stereo is at the front of the mix in mono. It sounds like John but Paul's the only Beatle who plays on this so maybe he's doing a John impression.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps - George shouts things during the guitar solo at the end (long considered to be a Paul is dead clue) in stereo. It's not audible in mono.

I'm So Tired - Paul's backing vocal during the chorus is at the same volume as John's in mono. In stereo, it's faint.

Blackbird - The Blackbird noises are different in mono.

Piggies - The pig noises are different (and not as good) in mono.

Don't Pass Me By - The Mono version is faster and the violin toward the end sounds quite different.

Why Don't We Do It In the Road? - No handclapping during the intro in mono.

Helter Skelter - This track is butchered in mono. The final minute (after the fade out) is completely cut off. Another difference is there is an audible squeak (maybe a saxophone?) right before the guitar solo when Paul sings "Look out! Because here she comes...."

Long Long Long - The double tracking of the vocals is legitimately fucked up in mono. An obvious error in mastering.

Honey Pie - The guitar solo is a little longer in mono.

Revolution 9 - A conversation between George Martin and some other guy is heard in mono right before the piano and first "number 9" loop.

wow, thanks. so overall, it looks like you prefer the stereo version of the white album - is that right? do you in general prefer the stereo versions of beatles' records to mono versions?

i'm thinking of just sucking it up and buying the whole box set - but i'm wondering why the mono version is more expensive and seemingly more in-demand...

Yeah I prefer the stereo mixes for the most part. The only song that I totally prefer in mono is She's Leaving Home. But it's definitely worth taking a listen to the mono mixes if you're an obsessed Beatles fan. Buying them? Eh.....I dunno. Does the box set come with both? if it's one or the other, buy the stereo and download the mono.

Here, I megauploaded the mono vinyl-rips of Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour for ya to check out before you decide what type of remasters to buy.
