First off, thank you Ten Club for the tickets! I was very pleasantly surprised when I looked at my tickets and seen seats 1 and 2, Section 3, Row 9....Lottery winner...great way to start the night!
I'd probably say the setlists were fairly equal between the two nights, but the energy in our section, the longer show, and the great seats give night two the nod for me. I was very surprised to hear "In My Tree", especially played in the "old" manner; it sounded great. My highlights were probably Brother, All Night, HTI, and Crazy Mary...but there were plenty of others. Eddie sure was a sweaty mess by the end of the show!
I was not very impressed by Bad Religion though, sound was poor and their singer was showing his age, particularly with his polo shirt and bald spot....really looked like a corporate Christmas party where the boss goes up and sings with the band. His voice was in good shape, but the overall presentation of the band made them look older than the Stones!
What a night though! Hope everyone enjoyed and stayed in their own seat!
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

I'm glad the majority of people had a great time. I hope the kids were there enjoyed the show, cause not sure how it will be when they get to be our age..
I'll apologize in advance for posting this in the fanview thread, and I'll be brief: my kids are almost as pumped as I am about going to four shows in Philly. They are like any casual fan who has been to one PJ show: They came out wanting much, much more. The only difference is they are shorter than most (but my 10-year-old is 5'2", so not for long!); we are not forcing them to go. Cheers....
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
I'm glad the kids enjoyed it, or will enjoy it. I have a neice who is 20 and I'd like to take her someday, but she listens to different stuff and although if you asked her she would say "yea I like pearl jam" but I'm not sure if it's enough to stand on her feet for two hours or so and absord the loud ass rock show that makes you're ears ring for a day. the kid in front of me would periodically sit down and rub his feet?
on the Boom thing, I beg to differ. I wish they would have boom do the beginning of Baba OReilly, like the Who does with the keyboard.

Sunday night vs. Monday night? Tough call, but I think I've got to give the nod to Monday. Was my opinion influenced by the fact that I had better seats (Monday: Sec. 6, row 11, seats 5&6, Sunday: 103/7/3&4). Maybe.
However, I think "Love, Reign O'er Me" on Sunday might have been the high point of the two nights.
My wife decided not to go on Sunday and opted for Monday only (our oldest kid's first day of kindergarten was yesterday -- she wanted to make sure he got to bed at a decent time) so I took a friend instead. I think she chose the right show to attend.

WOW. That was the best show I have seen out of 8. Eddie sounded incredible. He seemed so good that Comatose was easy for him- effortless super high notes - He was SO into EVERY song ! Incredibly intense and energized every second. The song selection was too sweet for words.
This was my last show (Toronto, Chicago (2)) and stragely they topped themselves each night. I have to say Toronto had the best crowd singing wise, but Chicago rocked. I kept thinking to myself last night, as the amazing songs kept coming - "they are doing it! They are topping their own greatness". It seems stupid to even try to put it into words. It's like someone becomes the first to set foot on the moon - then two days later they go to Mars, then the next day they discover the origin of the universe.
Highlights for me were In My Tree - incredible drumming and perfectly sung, Nothingman which was the only song I REALLY wanted to see that I had never seen, Brother, Got Some is awesome live every time, Grievance (love that song), a super fast version of Porch with unreal soloing, lots of intensity, jumping, running about, hands waving, and smiles. Boom was amazing in Crazy Mary. He is great. Thank you Boom.
Whipping-Not for you was killer.
Thank you Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder for demonstrating freedom for all to see, Mike McCready who I have finally realized is in a class of his own as a guitar player - I have never heard him miss a note- it's like it couldn''t happen, Stone Gossard rhythm master and great soloist, Jeff Ament bringing the joy, Matt Cameron who does not tire and plays like a fiend for hours and hours - and Boom - representing the Hawaiin Islands where I have a connection, and perfectly mixed into the sound - Thank you all.
You have introduced me to the great city of Chicago and raised my spirit to the sky.
"It's all about living in the moment" Eddie said last night "That's what we try to do up here every night - to bring that to you - and, well, it seems to be working" then into Present Tense with a stadium wide sing-a-long.
(that's not an exact quote- but pretty close)
That is the greatest gift anyone could give to another human being - life in the present tense.
I will take that one home with me.
That and the fight for freedom
I will never be the same.
Ahhh Fuck!!!!!!
to those in favor of the lottery, rows 9 and 10 were dead-stand-still last night. people looked bored! I understand not everyone jumps around, but at least bounce a bit, clap after songs, something! I dont mind the lottery for rows 1 and 2, but 9 and 10 can go in my opinion. yes, there are die hard fans who joined late and it's cool they get a chance, but there are also very casual fans who just join for a chance at tickets.
and to the 2 guys in green sitting in Sec. 2, Row 14, seats 7 and 8, SHUT THE FUCK UP. these 2 only cared about who could predict the next song, and then would carry on a fucking conversation. why are you there? one of em was proud of himself for calling the "my whole life" tag on NFY. one, its called Modern Girl, and two, we all know its coming, he's been singing it after NFY for 5 fucking years now!
I'm glad the kids enjoyed it, or will enjoy it. An amazing show highlighted by a great setlist. Thank you 10c for good seats (Sec 6 Row 19 seats 1 & 2 next to the soundboard). Sunday was great but Monday blew my mind. In My Tree was the highlight for me.
I was rooting for him. IF they are booing, I try scream louder, in favor, to drown out the boos.
Its very possible they are praising him, just coincindence he goes by Boom, and it's easy, so everyone yells Boom? But no one yells anyone else out by name, in harmony, like chant? My mind is open and I hope they are yelling in his favor, I know I am.
When I was in Grand Rapids 06, there were people in front of me that were definitely boo-ing and not screaming BOOM!! YEA!! they lowered their voice and cuffed their lips like a strong, low boo.
I appreaciate your thoughts and comments and am honored to be part of this group. thanks!

one: THANK YOU to the 10c !!! and also to all the ten clubbers who bring such positive energy! As if it weren't enough to be blessed to see and hear this incredible band, your love and spirit last night as others made the experience truly transcendent. Not much in life beats that.
two: gotta reiterate that In My Tree was PHENOMENAL!!! Blew me away! Worth the trip from NY all by itself!
But I disagree with you...you cannot determine how much a person enjoys a show by doing what you described.
I agree with you. I have always been one of the people who has said that people should enjoy the show the way they want, AS LONG AS IT DOESNT BOTHER THOSE AROUND THEM. this is where the 2 guys next to me failed. if I can hear you over the band, that's over the line. and no one is gonna be bothered if it happens once, but during every song throughout the show is bordering on "not fit to walk amongst society" level of stupidity.
and your other point contradicts the whole reason behind the lottery (not saying you're an advocate for the reason). but I do think that you have to give the band some response if youre in the first 10-15 rows. whether its jumping with the songs or just clapping in between. EV made a lot of comments about the crowd last night early in the show, and I agreed. no energy.
again, thank you to 10C for great seats both nights and thank you to Pearl Jam for treating us Chicagoans so well.
I agree, people should enjoy the show the way they want. if they are making a scene and disturbing the show for others, I guess that is for security to decide.
I had an end row seat and had to totally guard the row toward the end, where people ran up and tried to jump 6th row seats. One guy was standing so close to my chair, so as to not be scene, I could feel his breathe on the back of my neck. it was creepy, and he didn't belong there, so I just starting jumping and dancing a bit (when appropriate) more freely within my space, eventually he moved along. But I had my hands up in the air on a regular basis and I wonder if I irritated anyone behind me. the guys in front of me kept putting their cameras up high to get good pictures and I didn't care for that. a few okay, everyone want's something from their show, but thru the whole show? whatever, I don't care, I'm there for a good time. That's what's great about such a strong energetic event and it comes off great and no one gets hurt, it's like a miracle and we were part of it.
all in all it was a great show! you can't let the little things bother you or ruin it for you. you can decide to put on a smile and deal with all the uncontrolable factors or let it bother you. I had a great time and won't look at it any other way.

This is a VERY common thing to do with anyone with a long "oo" sound in their name. We are most definitely, positively, 100%, cheering his name. Join the fun!

I'll give you another example.. I'm a fan of English soccer team Arsenal! They used to have a Nigerian called Kanu.. Every time he was introduced the fans went KANUUUUUUUUU! He was like a cult figure and everyone loved him as a person (more so than as a player) It's pretty common!
And btw I'm 100% sure that both Boom and the rest of the guys KNOW what is being yelled! I've only ever seen Boom wave smilingly when introduced!

I don't post very much, but I have to say that last night was fucking epic. It was my eighth PJ show as I've been taking myself and friends since I was old enough to drive. Wish I could have been to more, but before 16 I couldn't get myself there. HA. Words can't really describe the experience, but I'll try. I went to both shows on tenclub tix and apparently good things will come your way if you are appreciative. I had a great time Sunday night with a long time PJ buddy, and we hit our first preparty and just had a blast. We were grateful to have 304 row 2 because I thought it was a pretty decent sight line. I have a 400,000ish number so I didn't expect much. I was hoping to have it improve for Monday night, then I got to the ticket window and I honestly almost blacked out when I saw section 3, row 2. I will be a ten club member for life, even if I never win the lottery again. That was without a doubt the greatest experience of my life outside of the day I got married and engaged. Unreal setlist, great energy, and really really great people in the first two rows. I will forever owe a debt to Big Blue from Baltimore (I never caught his name), as he snagged an extra pick and passed it on to me.
I sent a text message to another friend across the stadium Sunday night before the show to ask what his dream song would be, he replied Man of the Hour and got his wish Sunday. I said Hard to Imagine or In My Tree. Did the band intercept that message? The first four songs I was worked into a froth that lasted for 2.5 hours. Hard to Imagine is everything I hoped it would be live. In My Tree might now be my favorite live song from the eight shows I've attended. Last Exit was superb, but so was every song off of Vitalogy. There were times when I thought to myself that this must have been close to what it was like in the mid nineties as they ripped through Whipping, Not For You, and slow it down for Nothingman. So glad to hear that great tune again live. I wish Present Tense could become more of a staple because those guys turn that into an absolute anthem. The new songs were great again in my opinion. I thought that Grievance totally freakin rocked, but maybe that's just my Binaural appreciation. My biggest surprise of the show personally was being totally blown away by Brother. I thought it would be good and I think it's a solid song, but I listened to it 3 times on the way home after that show. Alive delivered everything that people have said about it. No More was really, really inspired by Ed. What a treat to hear that one live. The Real Me is just so outstanding as a Who fan and a Pearl Jam fan. They showed even more fans just how great and uptempo that band was. I could hear them play Black at every show and never get tired of it. I agree with whoever said that you kept thinking they were done, but they just kept going. The Pink Floyd tag was a real treat to hear on Daughter. I thought I was going to burst a blood vessel screaming out State of Love and Trust. Another song that you really appreciate once you've heard live. If someone were to ask me how you'd want a show like that to be capped, I would probably say end it with Fuckin Up just like live on two legs, my first pearl jam record when I was 14. How can you even put that emotion into words when your favorite band delivers like that? And to make the mention of #91 (Dennis Rodman) a guy that I've had the pleasure of meeting before. As I said in the beginning, the show was fucking epic. I told my friend afterwards that I'll probably have to buy two or three bootlegs because I will absolutely wear them out. Damn I love this band.
Between my outstanding luck with the seats, the people, and the setlist, this show officially moved to #1 alltime for me, finally edging out The Ice Bowl in East Troy. Matt was an absolute beast on In My Tree and others, Stone was amazing on Brother and Crazy Mary, Mike pulled of the Star Spangled Banner again and his laps were hilarious, Jeff was strumming that big bass like a champ on a couple tunes, and Ed is always Ed with his delivery but both nights of The Real Me were special as I think he outdid Roger when I saw them back in '03. I might be saying this because I was right in front of the man all night, but I have never seen Stone rip like he did last night. I thought his acoustic guitar was going to catch fire during Crazy Mary when going straight up with Boom. I think I covered everything from a glorious night of music and excitement. Thank you ten club, but most importantly THANK YOU PEARL JAM!!!

I'll try to see more positive in the Boom thing in future shows. and in the end I think he's here to stay and if anyone is not in favor of him, it's their prob. eh? glad to hear peeps here are praising.

Just for the record, people are definitely not booing Boom.
No they're not screaming everybodies name like it, it's a one syllibal name...
Funny 'cause someone in the crowd at an Ottawa show was asking us why are people booing him, for sure if you're not aware, you wonder.
You guys from Chicago got a real treat, two very different sets from night 1 and night 2
I'm sure I'll end up getting bootleg of night 2; In My Three, Present Tense, Brother and The Real Me.
Comeback from night 1, nice
Keep on rockin' that tour Pearl Jam and Comeback to Ottawa and Montreal

Ahhh Fuck!!!!!!
and to the 2 guys in green sitting in Sec. 2, Row 14, seats 7 and 8, SHUT THE FUCK UP. these 2 only cared about who could predict the next song, and then would carry on a fucking conversation. why are you there? one of em was proud of himself for calling the "my whole life" tag on NFY. one, its called Modern Girl, and two, we all know its coming, he's been singing it after NFY for 5 fucking years now!

you lucky bastards, all of you, i didn't read through the whole thread, but when I do, I better not see ONE complaint
this is a KILLER set list
damn

Can't wait for SD and Philly!
