While I don't like the idea of Sallworth back in the NFL, as weird as it sounds, I actually have more compassion for him than Vick. I have much more compassion for Stallworth too. It's not like he left the bar and hit some guy on the corner and fled the scene.

He had left the bar, went to sleep at a friend's house, woke up and then was driving home. I know many of us who have done the same thing - woken up and drove figuring you were ok to drive. He was driving on a stretch of highway and a the guy he killed was running across it to catch a bus that he was going to miss. Then after hitting the guy he stops, calls the police and stays on the scene the entire time and never tries to flee.

Whereupon Vick only admitted to years of animal abuse after he was dimed out by his friends.

I'm sorry, but I have much more respect for Stallworth who already agreed to help out the victim's family financially and was a stand up guy the entire time after making a tragic mistake.

And the reason he got such a short sentence, is because there is a contributory negligence law when it comes to DUI's on Florida and the fact that the victim ran across a highway made it almost impossible to get a harsher conviction so the DA had to offer the plea to Stallworth.

Im not going to believe anything Vick says at this point. He has $millions of reasons to say whatever will ease public opinion. The NFL and ESPN will also have rea$ons to frame the successful comeback story.

If he is truly remorseful, he will put up some money and/or some significant effort to right his wrongs.

I was thinking this morning that if he isn't truly remorseful now, then he probably will end up being... He will work a lot with groups like the humane society, and unless he is some sort of psychopath (which I doubt), spending time in those shelters, talking with people who work there, dealing with the dogs, it will have to give him an appreciation for the animals and the seriousness of what he did.

There were rumors the Bills were going to be the team that signed him on Wednesday.... I have said from the getgo, if the Bills gain Vick, they lose me.

I'm still going to watch my Eagles. I mean, if I stopped watching shows/sports/whatever based on the moral character of the actors/athletes/etc, there would be nothing to watch.

I just wanna watch some football.

There ya go... I watch sports and my teams specifically for the enjoyment of it and rooting for my team. I don't have to root for Vick or any other player.

I will continue to watch but something has been lost for me. I love the Eagles and have been a supporter and apolgist for the Reid/Banner/Lurie team but I've lost respect for them on this one. I don't consider myself an animal lover or anything of that nature, but I just feel so uncomfortable with this situation. I honestly can't even look at a TV and see this guy interviewed and I surely don't want him on the field helping this team win. I'd rather lose with respect and dignity than win with this guy. I don't know, its weird for me to say that because that is against my nature as a sports fan. I guess I am a hypocrite because I feel he deserves the opportunity to play again having served his time but I just don't want it to be for my team.

Really? Boycotting the Eagles seems a tad extreme. I'm on the opposite side of the fence. Yes, what Vick did was despicable, but unforgivable? The man fell from grace probably unlike any other. He lost over $100 million dollar contract, all his endorsements, spent almost 2 years in prison, and is now the most hated athlete in professional sports. All deservedly so, and I'm not even saying leave him alone because he's suffered enough. Dogfighting is a huge problem all over the country, not just in urban areas and not just with african americans. People are finally talking about the issue and here you have someone who *could* genuinely make a difference for the better. Despite what you think about Vick, why not give him the opportunity to make good on his promises to work with the humane society and try to mitigate animal cruelty, at least for all the poor dogs out there that still have a chance?

Who knows, if a celebrity championed the cause years ago and spoke to Mike Vick when he was a kid, maybe he wouldn't have done it. Isn't that the point? He's a living example of what not to do, and I say if he can help prevent another "Mike Vick" from bankrolling and running a dogfighting operation, then let's give him the chance.

I think this is an excellent point. I only caught a glimpse of the 60 minutes interview, but the fact that he could barely keep the smirk off of his lips when he was talking about feeling remorseful really makes me question his sincerity.

Can I add something to this arguement...

What if we were talking about a white man who was in the aryan nation..who burned crossed and was involved in racial intimidation and racial assualts...what if he was a boy brought up in a house of hate with parents who bred him to hate people different than him. What if he lived his whole life in a social atmosphere like that, followed the teachings of the people he was surrounded by, and did what he believed was what he was suppose to do. Then suddenly one day he is caught burning a cross..goes to jail..learns not to hate so much and wants to help change peoples perceptions of himself while helping others not hate and follow ignorance like the aryan nation...what would be the thought about this man coming out of jail? Would we deny this man a chance to change? Now what if this man was a white athlete. Would we give him a second chance? I ask the question because there is a line drawn in the sand right now..some people will NEVER forgive Mike Vick and thats their choice but Jesus..can we really say that this WASNT a LEARNED excercise? Look I love animals and I am sickened..SICKENED..by what he did..but man..I am also trying to believe that he wants to change.
