I'm still going to watch my Eagles. I mean, if I stopped watching shows/sports/whatever based on the moral character of the actors/athletes/etc, there would be nothing to watch.
I just wanna watch some football.
I will continue to watch but something has been lost for me. I love the Eagles and have been a supporter and apolgist for the Reid/Banner/Lurie team but I've lost respect for them on this one. I don't consider myself an animal lover or anything of that nature, but I just feel so uncomfortable with this situation. I honestly can't even look at a TV and see this guy interviewed and I surely don't want him on the field helping this team win. I'd rather lose with respect and dignity than win with this guy. I don't know, its weird for me to say that because that is against my nature as a sports fan. I guess I am a hypocrite because I feel he deserves the opportunity to play again having served his time but I just don't want it to be for my team.
vick is a piece of shit.... take your second chance and forgivness bullshit and shove it where the sun doesnt shine...
i am a life long die hard eagles fan that WILL NOT be watching any games this year, rooting for them in any way, going to any games, or supporting them or Vick in any way... i will not pay a nickel of that piece of shits salary and i wil not give the eagles one fucking dime of my money
some things are more important then athletic ability and sports teams...
i am officially no longer a philadelphia eagles fan because of this, and i hope there are many more like me out there.
fuck em
Really? Boycotting the Eagles seems a tad extreme. I'm on the opposite side of the fence. Yes, what Vick did was despicable, but unforgivable? The man fell from grace probably unlike any other. He lost over $100 million dollar contract, all his endorsements, spent almost 2 years in prison, and is now the most hated athlete in professional sports. All deservedly so, and I'm not even saying leave him alone because he's suffered enough. Dogfighting is a huge problem all over the country, not just in urban areas and not just with african americans. People are finally talking about the issue and here you have someone who *could* genuinely make a difference for the better. Despite what you think about Vick, why not give him the opportunity to make good on his promises to work with the humane society and try to mitigate animal cruelty, at least for all the poor dogs out there that still have a chance?
Who knows, if a celebrity championed the cause years ago and spoke to Mike Vick when he was a kid, maybe he wouldn't have done it. Isn't that the point? He's a living example of what not to do, and I say if he can help prevent another "Mike Vick" from bankrolling and running a dogfighting operation, then let's give him the chance.

as I said in my post above, i don't have a problem with him having the opportunity to play again - i just don't want him on my team.
Strange in the end I think this Michael Vick may turn out that this guy may save more dogs/animal rights than he ever did in hurting/killing them. He will be and is expected to be fighting for their rights for the rest of his life. It is possible he can do it, I'd like to see him accomplish this but we shall see.
Peace
And if I molest your children, then later work with the Child Welfare League that protects children from such monstrous behavior, you'll have me over for dinner with your family ?
Because, dammit, I made a mistake ?
I think this is an excellent point. I only caught a glimpse of the 60 minutes interview, but the fact that he could barely keep the smirk off of his lips when he was talking about feeling remorseful really makes me question his sincerity.

What if we were talking about a white man who was in the aryan nation..who burned crossed and was involved in racial intimidation and racial assualts...what if he was a boy brought up in a house of hate with parents who bred him to hate people different than him. What if he lived his whole life in a social atmosphere like that, followed the teachings of the people he was surrounded by, and did what he believed was what he was suppose to do. Then suddenly one day he is caught burning a cross..goes to jail..learns not to hate so much and wants to help change peoples perceptions of himself while helping others not hate and follow ignorance like the aryan nation...what would be the thought about this man coming out of jail? Would we deny this man a chance to change? Now what if this man was a white athlete. Would we give him a second chance? I ask the question because there is a line drawn in the sand right now..some people will NEVER forgive Mike Vick and thats their choice but Jesus..can we really say that this WASNT a LEARNED excercise? Look I love animals and I am sickened..SICKENED..by what he did..but man..I am also trying to believe that he wants to change. Hopefully he can bring high exposure to stopping these horrible acts against animals.
And remember kids...even Indy was under someone elses control once..

i'd say go rent american history x
i volunteer at a no kill animal rescue so my thoughts on what he did should be pretty clear...still, i will give him some time to see if he actually does anything that shows he's remorseful. i didn't see the 60 min interview so i don't know how much he smirked.

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

I just think it's a ridiculous premise equating the two.
Plus 2/3 of NFL players are black, how a member of the Aryan nation would keep that hidden in the locker room (as well as any tattoos or any signs of his belief system) and get past the psychological screening at the combine to make a roster and excel at the sport is beyond me.
But to go along with your premise, how's Michael Richard's career doing these days. I don't see networks lining up to give him a tv show in prime time. Doesn't he deserve a second chance?

I don't think Michael Richard's is a world class comedian.

I don't think Michael Vick is a top 15 qb in the NFL (before he was arrested) never having thrown more than 20 tds in a season and having a career completion percentage of 53% while playing the majority of time in a dome.

I'd totally agree and that's what makes this signing so mind boggling.. Vick was never a great or even outstanding QB and didn't show signs that he ever would be. And now it seems he will be a gimmick player in the Eagles offense. Unless the Eagles are going to try and showcase Vick and ship him off somewhere, but who wants him that bad???

He was easily a top 10 qb, just not passer and you can't equate how his skill set took away from defensive game plans.
And he made the playoffs once.
2002 was ranked 18th in qb rating
2003 hurt
2004 was ranked 21st
2005 was ranked 25th
2006 was ranked 20th
He's Randall Cunningham without the talent.
And that really does nothing to disprove my point.
His four years starting, Atlanta's passing offense ranked 23rd, 30th, 27th and 32nd in the league.
The NFL is a passing league.
Explain to me how the architect of such a proficient passing attack is a top 10 QB in the league. I admit he's very tough to game plan for, but the last time I checked the teams who have done the best this decade have had a very good to great passing attack.
there's no mass revolt happening. there were 6 or 7 protesters at nova care a week ago and that was it.
a few people sold their tickets on ebay. good for them. if they were going to be true to their convictions they would have actually turned in their season tickets to the eagles, but oh well.
they may lose a few season ticket holders and sponsors...but you know what? there are 61,000 people in line for tickets and many other sponsors who will step in.
so, take a deep breath, relax and look at this from a football point of view: we're a better team today than we were before signing this scumbag. and let there be no doubt about it, he is scum of the earth. i despise him for what he did. but he served his time. 2 years in a federal prison is pretty rough and i think pretty fair actually. he deserves to resume his life. the eagles gave him a million and a half UN-guaranteed bucks this year. that's it. other than some initial backlash, there is not a lot of risk. we've acquired what many consider to be the best backup in the league and the best wildcat option in the league. whenever he is on the field, even as a decoy, it will create lots of havoc for the opposing defense. in a football game there are 3 or 4 big plays that go a long way towards determining the outcome. with him in the mix, our odds of converting more big plays is much higher.
and you know what? if it doesn't work out, cut his ass. if it does work out, package him into a draft day trade and improve the team that way.
it will be really hard to root for him. and the first thing i thought of when i heard about it was how i would react if/when he scores the winning touchdown in a big game. it will be bittersweet because i love dogs just as much as the next guy. but the bottom line, as i have said before, is that we are a better team today than 9 days ago.
with that said
we still have many other non vick related issues that need to be ironed out before 9/13. need the o line healthy...need a pass rush somehow....need a backup tight end. schobel sucks balls....gocong's gotta learn to cover a tight end....etc etc etc. i was more optimistic before training camp than i am now. but we will see what happens.
but seriously, it was pretty funny to skim through the first couple pages of this thread. you'd have thought there was going to be some kind of mass revolt at the linc or something

ummmmm.....donovan mcnabb is our quarterback. vick is our backup and wildcat option. he's not a great quarterback. he's an above average quarterback with unquestioned athletic ability. that's all you need for what we expect him to do.
and by the way, i think some actual good coaching he could turn out to be a decent qb. we'll just have to see. but for now, he's going to be on the field to creatve havoc for defenses.

i am pleased with how donny's looked so far. this thursday is gonna be a big game for us.
speaking of thursday, your jeagler is looking to get rid of his preseason tickets. section 220, row 28, seats 1 and 2. best offer...ACT NOW!
PHILADELPHIA—Newly acquired Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was "humiliated" Tuesday after an iron he had left unattended inside the team's locker room sparked a blaze that eventually burned Lincoln Financial Field to the ground. "I just wanted to press some shirts so I could look nice and make a good impression on the team, but now everybody is going to hate me," said Vick, choking back tears as he surveyed the still smoldering remains of the $518 million stadium. "I didn't mean to do it. I tried really hard to put out the fire, but when I smothered the flames they just got bigger and everything started burning. I'm super sorry. I promise it won't happen again." Vick, who said he did not notify police or the fire department because it would violate the conditions of his reinstatement, added that the stadium might be fine once it cools down.
I don't think I could have said it better myself...

HA! yes, yoda...same page, we are. If I were on the east coast, I'd gladly take those tickets off your hands...but since I won't be moving back until January, I'll have to wait until next season.
looking forward to the discussion after the game tomorrow, guys!
i was at the game last night. there were a few protestors outside but nothing like i thought there would be. even more surprising was the overwhelming applause when vick came out...there was even a standing ovation. i was not expecting that! when donovan threw his first interception the "we want vick" chants started. now THAT i expected...

i'd say go rent american history x
i volunteer at a no kill animal rescue so my thoughts on what he did should be pretty clear...still, i will give him some time to see if he actually does anything that shows he's remorseful. i didn't see the 60 min interview so i don't know how much he smirked.
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?

And he made the playoffs once.
2002 was ranked 18th in qb rating
2003 hurt
2004 was ranked 21st
2005 was ranked 25th
2006 was ranked 20th
He's Randall Cunningham without the talent.

ohh and Robert Drummond and James Joseph

GO BIRDS!
ummmmm.....donovan mcnabb is our quarterback. vick is our backup and wildcat option. he's not a great quarterback. he's an above average quarterback with unquestioned athletic ability. that's all you need for what we expect him to do.
and by the way, i think some actual good coaching he could turn out to be a decent qb. we'll just have to see. but for now, he's going to be on the field to creatve havoc for defenses.
I don't think I could have said it better myself...

see that. you and me. right there. (i'm motioning from my eyes to your eyes in your avatar). same page, we are.
i am pleased with how donny's looked so far. this thursday is gonna be a big game for us.
speaking of thursday, your jeagler is looking to get rid of his preseason tickets. section 220, row 28, seats 1 and 2. best offer...ACT NOW!
HA! yes, yoda...same page, we are. If I were on the east coast, I'd gladly take those tickets off your hands...but since I won't be moving back until January, I'll have to wait until next season.
looking forward to the discussion after the game tomorrow, guys!
