I can't figure out why people are blowing a gasket about Vick when someone like Donte Stallworth will be back in the NFL next year after serving only 30 days for killing a human being while he was wasted. I'm not trying to make it like Vick is a saint because he's still an asshole in my book but he served 2 years in a federal pen for dogfighting. There will be no protests once Stallworth gets back to the NFL but everyone and their mother will be protesting when Vick gets back to playing. I will never understand that.
I agree. Stallworth is a much bigger asshole, and actually killed a man.

Yeah and he should have a lifetime ban.

You forgot ... "they threw batteries at JD Drew".

I actually know the battery thrower a little bit. He's a friend of a friend and a real nutcase with a trust fund.
  • I can't believe how many people are whining about the Vick situation. I wonder how much more whining there will be after he steps in for an injured McNabb and leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl win. Yeah, yeah I know I'm dreaming....

Seriously though, the guy didn't exactly pull an OJ and get away with it. I'll bet the majority of what he makes with the Eagles this year will only end up in his creditors hands.

Plus, he did serve time at a real prison. Granted, not a maximum security prison but I have to think it wasn't real pleasant. Spending 18 hours at a hotel in Kansas is bad enough, let 18 months in a prison in Kansas. Also don't discount the fact that this guy will be dealing with the shame and humiliation the rest of his life.

I am by no means a Vick fan. I'm an Eagles fan and a big part of me wonders if this was such a good move on their part. But the fact is, the guy is a human being who made a mistake. We've all done stupid things that we regret. If it was your friend, brother, uncle, or father and they got involved in dog fighting AND got caught AND got punished, you'd be singing a much different tune.

I think it's great that somebody signed him.

A)he's served his debt to society
B)I'm sure there were some crazy things done to "train" or "punish" or "kill" the dogs, but the fact remains that they are dogs....
C)I think it's laughable that he can go to federal prison for funding dogfighting in a country that allows boxing and mma. Not a knock on either sport, just think it's completely ridiculous for dogfighting to be so ridiculously illegal.

Wait a minute ... MMA fighters and boxers have the choice to do what they do, these dogs don't. There's a difference.

I'm for Vick getting a second chance, especially with Tony Dungy as a mentor .... but, needed to make that point.

    Carry on.

Wishing such horrible things on a person is as bad as what Michael Vick did.

If Vick wants to build some goodwill with his fans, the easiest thing he could do is publicly donate the majority of his 1.6 million first year salary to the animal humane society.

If that happened we'd have no pro sports in the country.

as a former amateur bowler, I can tell you, there are a lot of coked up, alcholic, douche bag pro bowlers out there.

Good luck getting the bankruptcy court to agree to that.

While I don't like the idea of Sallworth back in the NFL, as weird as it sounds, I actually have more compassion for him than Vick. Stallworth made a terrible decision, and a man died because of it.... but one horrible decision that he immediately admitted and faced up to is easier to forgive than a guy who chooses to participate in torturing animals for years and then lies to everyone about it when he is caught.

Ok - that's it - bowling is out of here too! That leaves...ballroom dancing? :?

I think the thing that disturbs a lot of people about Vick is the deliberate and repeated nature of what he did. It speaks to someone who is deeply disturbed. The reports that he threw his family dogs into the ring - animals he took into his care and was supposed to care for, but instead subjected to torture. At the very least he lacks empathy, but worse he seemed to take pleasure in it. Psychologically he's not that much different from someone like dahmer. I think most people can understand a "mistake" or a "bad judgment", but it's just the deliberateness and cruelty with what he did, coupled with the fact that he seems to lack any empathy that is so disturbing. This is a person who is unlikely to change. I don't think he should be rewarded and it disturbs the f*ck out of me that he's coming to Philly.

Strange in the end I think this Michael Vick may turn out that this guy may save more dogs/animal rights than he ever did in hurting/killing them. He will be and is expected to be fighting for their rights for the rest of his life. It is possible he can do it, I'd like to see him accomplish this but we shall see.

I guess that is my point. Coaches and fans pay lip service to things like "second chance, forgiveness" when it is really codespeak for "we'll do anything to win." My job, though? No. You get a felony conviction, you're probably not coming back.

well if his defense lawyer can convince his judge that donating 1 million would significantly increase the chances of Vick staying with the Eagles and being able to earn 5 million in his second year. That would be a compelling argument.

from what I saw in his interview with James Brown, saying "I'm sorry" and "what I did was wrong" with a blank expression didn't exactly come across as genuine statment coming from a man who has turned his life around. If he wants to stay with the Eagles for a second year he'll have to do something more than an apology like that.
