All I know is, all these self-righteous people need to get up off their soap boxes. Does anyone even know how many players on these teams were at these events and do not care about dogs? A SHIT LOAD. The difference is Vick got caught and his name was all over everything. He did more than enough time, and everyone deserves a second chance. Do I like the guy? No. But I'm sure that goes for most of the players in the league. All I know is he's gonna come in for 5-10 plays a game and defenses are going to have to prepare for that.
I love to peta bs comment. "Decent fans"...I guess I'm not a decent fan because I think Mr. Vick has every right to pursue a career in NFL. I also find it that Philly fans are upset. Hell, they have a courtroom in the basement of the stadium to deal with violent fans...
When Vick is helping them win games, they will be singing a different tune...
Morals aside, after last year and the questions about McNabb's happiness and future the LAST thing Andy Reid (or anyone associated w/the Eagles) needs this season is a quarterback controversy. Which, in spite of what anyone says, is EXACTLY what the Eagles are going to have. I understand he's a talented guy, but is he worth the drama? No way.

The ole prison in the basement routine. Get the fuck over yourself. And don't label us all, douchenozzle. Do you know Wrigley has had a prison inside ever since it was built? Oh, but I forgot, I'm sorry it's Philly. Take it deep.

I think that they signed him as a scapegoat in case they fall short of going all the way... Since most people hate him, they can just say he's the reason... but if the eagles get to the super bowl no one would care anyway.
I know that I was born and I know that Ill die.

While I think that Vick served his time and has the right to resume his football career, the "second chance" justification is laughable... It wasn't like him and some buddies had a wild weekend, and put on a couple of dog fights... He actively took place in killing and torturing dogs for six years... SIX YEARS! And when he was caught, he lied to his boss and to the commissioner as to what his involvement was. This is WELL past a "second chance".

Understood, but these aren't people like you and me - if I can assume here. I also, believe people are a product of their environment, and where he comes from they don't look at dogs the way we do. They just don't. This is coming from a guy from Philly where the kids in these ghetto - same as Newport News - there's no such thing as fathers, killing isn't even an afterthought, and fighting dogs is like squashing an ant. They have no concept of how other people feel about dogs. I guarantee you that just like Vick, 60-70% of players on each NFL team comes from the same upbringing and do not give a shit about dogs and enjoys the fights(i.e. Clinton Portis' comments a couple years ago). Think about it - it's so absurd that they think completely different from us. I'm not in any way justifying or feeling sympathetic for the guy, but it's the truth.

And at any time Vick sets foot on the field, I hope the Eagles fans boo the shit outta him...though it would be much louder and fierce if they were playing an away game!

Oh, Vick will get booed hard here, but of course once he has a winning TD the crowd will go nuts. He's their wildcat player. You may see him line up at shotgun with McNabb, out at slot, TE, RB, and they say he's going to take 5-10 plays at QB himself. I don't know how a defense is going to prepare for that.

Yeah, I think if they use him right they could make a lot of defenses look bad.
I'm just wondering if he will get roughed up out there. I mean, it would not surprise me if there were some guys taking some extra hard hits on him and even some cheap shots...

using that kind of logic then it must be ok for people in the south to be racists. i mean that is their culture is it not? using a poor environment is nothing but a lame excuse to try and blame being a scumbag on anyone but yourself.
he did his time and he is free to go back to work - i just don't understand the justification of value as a player vs. the negative publicity the Eagles are taking for this. Can you justify it and only play the guy 4 or 5 plays a game? I don't know - that is the call they made, just not sure I can understand it.

Excellent points.......that being said, there is almost NO moral high ground in sports. I heard the Eagles released a couple of guys, a few years back, for animal cruelty. You can be almost sure that these guys had no value to the team. It's just like when college coaches kick 4th stringers off the team (to prove the pureness of their programs) and then say "we'll let the (court) system do it's job" if a first teamer commits the same offense. It's all about money and performance. Period.

Well, sort of. Eagles starting safety Damon Moore abandoned a rottweiler puppy he bought after three days. He then tore his ACL agaisnt the Rams in the NFC championship game trying to tackle Faulk. And then the Eagles abandoned him by not offering him a contract after the season.
Like with any group of fans ... 95% of Philly fans are probably cool people, passionate about their team, and would never pull off shit like the lugnuts described. I think it's just that the worst of the worst fans are worse than any other fan base.
I still think if Vick came into the Linc with the Giants or Cowboys, he would have been pelted with milk bones by more than one idiot.

of course there is no moral high ground in sports - it is about winning and losing, thus the reason there is a scoreboard. not sure I understand your point. Of course an employee who is more valuable will get away with more than one less valuable. don't you think your job is the same way?

I'm a huge Cowboys fan and I live in a traditionally racist state (TN) and personally, I'm glad to see Vick playing again. And not because I hate the Eagles or because I don't care for animals. I think he's served his time as required by law, paid his debt to society, whatever the fuck that means, and deserves another shot at life. I don't think it's something anyone should lose sleep over. At the end of the day, he is a huge tLent who will help a football team if people can just accept his existence.

Yeah... the spring after the 2008 season, two Pittsburgh Steelers were accused/charged in domestic dispute incidents involving hitting their girlfriends... Cedrick Wilson, a 3rd or 4th receiver, was released... but the team decided to keep the other guy - James Harrison. I'll bet that if James Harrison was just a special teams player, he would have been gone too.

Another example, Leonard Little with the Rams, killed someone drunk driving in '99 (he was around .2 BAC). Got a half season suspension but, eventually, all the manslaughter charges were dropped and the Rams were more than happy to have him back.
He got pinched for another drunk driving charge in 2004.

He still might be

Yeah... the spring after the 2008 season, two Pittsburgh Steelers were accused/charged in domestic dispute incidents involving hitting their girlfriends...
