Interesting. Was that their most recent tour? Gord's always had odd stage antics like that... kind of an acquired taste. The rag thing wasn't really noticeable to me, but the band was on fire this most recent tour. That said, if you don't REALLY know their back catalogue, I can see how the songs would blend together. My gf had the same reaction, though she loved the show overall. But I've heard the same thing said about PJ by people that don't know their catalogue all that well.
That's fair! And yes, I've definitely heard that said about Pearl Jam as well. It was this tour, at one of the five Massey Hall shows in Toronto. In regards to the band - I wasn't impressed by them at all either! Totally uninvolved.. keeping to themselves, no interaction between each other.. I'll leave it at that at the risk of this becoming a rant.
Ha, fair enough. I won't set you off! The rest of the band is pretty static, I think they figure no matter what they do they're going to get overshadowed by Gord. But I was referring to their playing, not their onstage behavior. I've always loved Rob's solos. The version of Poets they did in Detroit might have been the most amazing 6 minutes of music in my life.

that sucks dude. when i saw them i was totally impressed by them.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
No Question! I have a huge library of music from all genres and by far PJ are tops. Cool thing about music is people identify and connect with differnt things so one band's music sounds like crap to my ears, but to someone else it's the best thing they've heard.
nope, muse is. and no thats not sarcasm. pj is #2 though
Flip that and those are my two favorites PJ will always be #1, but Muse is definitely my #2 (tied with Zeppelin).
2006: Boston I, Camden II
2007: Chicago
2008: Hartford, Mansfield I & II, EV Boston

2012: Philly
2013: Worcester I & II, Brooklyn I & II
Well there is no better band than Led-Zeppelin. If you told me back in high school 25 years ago that I'd listen to someone more than Zeppelin I would have laughed at you. But- After this year I will have seen PJ 30 times and I can say they are my favorite!!!
Yes, no question. only seen them 4 times so far, but their live shows are better than any other ive seen, and i have much more of their music than anyone else. first got into them in 2001, and since then have been my favorite band. roll on many more years of pearl jam

I'm a big Hip fan, but have been disappointed recently with their live performances. The music they played was fantastic, but the atmosphere was missing. It could very well be that the Toronto crowds brought down the energy level. That being said, really liked their new album, and just about everything they've put out prior to it.
They are currently building such a legacy. I don't think it will be out of place for even the most critical music followers to speak of them on the same level as the Who, Stones, Beatles, Clash, Zep, Dylan etc when they call it a day (hopefully in about 40 years' time!).
PJ is #1 but that could change if Backspacer sucks. I dont think i can take another mediocre album. i dont have the energy to "learn to love" (aka convince myself its good) another album.

I've never been more than a casual fan of theirs but I heard from some friends that the Massey Hall gigs were lacking. This surprised me bc I saw them play a show at the Phoenix a couple years ago that was VERY rocking.
Anyhoo...
PJ could very well be my #1, but like Benjs said, there's a time, place and mood for others as well. My others are:
The Band
The Black Crowes
Phish
everything Jack White has been a part of
Dylan
Nick Cave
The Smiths
Michael Jackson (shhhhh...)
and many others.....
RHCP would be my 2nd but they never tour. they suck live(IMO) anyway, so it's just as well.
I always knew you were smilin' about something!
Mine:
1) PJ
2) The Black fuckin' Crowes

Soundgarden
Ryan Adams (w/ or w/out the Cardinals)

I don't have much access to new music due to crappy radio reception and lack of time.
I'm also a lifelong fan of:
David Bowie

I was listening to them in preschool, no kidding.

Yea Muse rocks the ass thats for sure. But PJ is my fave, they opened my mind to live music.

- The Who
- Supertramp
- Neil Young
- My Morning Jacket
- The Band

2. The Avett Brothers
Buffalo Tom edges them out ever so slighty. But seeing as BT are semi-retired and play about one gig a year, PJ is my #1 continuing musical passion.
At #3 right behind these two are The Clash / Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.
