Would be nice to have a support act that doesnt put you to sleep. Very jealous of Bad Religion :(

Have you seen Relentless7 live? Give'em a chance my friend. It's not the "innocent criminals" type of Ben Harper we're talking here.

My only point duing this whole bitch fest ... if you don't like him, fine, move along, have another beer and don't come inside until after the opening set is done ... but if you've never heard him, give him a chance, check out the youtube vids ... I mean seeing as you are the person who posted this, how can you disagree?

For people who have not seen them live, yes, you're right. But I've seen them last year live and they suck :)

    Seriously.

I'm a Ted Leo fan but will admit that his show didn't translate well to (mostly empty) ampitheaters last tour, and he does have a divisive singing/song style (a la Corin Tucker, whom I also love).

But at least the band brings interesting, respect-worthy acts out on tour with them, and it seems to put thought into it. People that the band respects and wants to bring some attention (and money) to. I bet a bunch of Pearl Jam fans bitched and moaned about the "weird" or grating Ramones and Sonic Youth from past tours, and now look back on that with regret.

That's cool, and certainly it's all opinion. But I personally am grateful that Pearl Jam selects bands with that kind of integrity and creativity.

Sony and Live Nation et al would have loved for them to simply slap that year's Nickelback on the tours, which wouldn't have been difficult.

i couldn't handle ted leo on the 08 tour, i really hope they pull out something else for philly.....i'm sure they will.

    pretty stupid post there, cowboy.

i'm not a ted leo fan at all, but certain bands aren't built for stadiums.

Seeing as Ted Leo literally carries his amps and equipment into the bars/clubs himself...

Playing MSG is a smidge different.

they aren't built for stadiums because they SUCK!! there is no difference between a club and a stadium besides the size..it's bigger...you need more amps and speakers(equipment) but as far as sound goes...you can either play and sound good or you can't...period!!!

this is retarded. you are small minded.

certain bands have sounds that don't translate to bigger venues. one example would be the disco biscuits. trance-fusion is cool inside of a club, not os much in an amphitheater littered with budweiser ads.

hip hop also sucks in stadiums

yeah...i'm small minded...always with the fucking insults....anyway..all knowing guru of music..i am well aware of the differences between clubs and small venues...my first club show was seeing my dad when i was like 5 yrs old..so music and i go way back...Ted doesn't play hip-hop(hip-hop sucks live, period)...there are other bands who play that style of music and still sound good in a large venue....like Greenday..but they are much better musicians than Ted and his crew...that's where the difference is.

curious what albums of Ted's you've heard?

and i guarantee you Green Day weren't always great live. i saw them in Montana in 1992 opening for a great local band and they were damn near AWFUL.

I don't have any of his albums...but i saw him live 4 times last summer and while i'm not going to go as far to say he is a talentless douche..i wasn't running out to buy his album either..I found him to be OK..but i'd much rather see a different band open this year.....and Greenday in 92!they were still just kids!

like i've said, i've seen Ted well over 10x going back to 2001, and the 3 opening sets i saw (DC & MSG) were easily my least favorite times i've seen him. the sound was so harsh that it made it nearly impossible for even myself as a HUGE fan to enjoy. that and he played 3-4 entirely brand new songs that weren't on any record.

if you listen to Tyranny of Distance and Hearts of Oak and don't enjoy them, then fine, but he's got PLENTY of talent (which is all mostly opinion anyway).

and fwiw, those 3 PJ sets i saw (DC & MSG) were some of my least favorite Pearl Jam shows too actually.

I also had tickets to that tour. Luckily I was able to catch Rage on their previous tour and the Beasties finally in 2004.
