this is crazy.. I know for a fact that most people going to see PJ don't know who is opening, never heard of them or don;t care either way and stay at the bar. Me on the other hand love seeing another band before PJ and never miss the opener.. If it was Ted Leo in Philly I'd watch them again.

oh i WILL enjoy the shows no matter who opens...but I'd like to see a NEW band open this year..i mean 1 Ted Leo show is all you ever really need to see imo.

a 3rd show on Halloween would just be fucking awesome..and who doesn't want more PJ?! more is always better when it comes to PJ shows!

I'm from Boston and i don't give a fuck about imaginary lines(state lines, county lines etc) drawn up so the rich could divide the land they "own"...I'm an AMERICAN..and i'm going to see my favorite band, period end of fucking story!

and if you don't like the fact that i don't want to see Ted Leo...too fucking bad!!

this thread is for people who are going to Philly and DON'T want to see Ted Leo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ted Leo was pretty loud last year - but I grabbed a few sonds of itunes and he is pretty good. Much better than The Buzzcocks or Sleater Kinney

I prefer an extra hour of PJ with an accoustic set

honestly while i've been a much bigger fan of Ted since '01, i'd have to agree...

and the 3 opening sets i saw Ted do last summer for PJ were pretty bad compared to the 10+ times i've seen him. the sound was just god awful and he played a bunch of NEW new songs.

KoL are fine, but a rather generic arena rock band these days. their first EP and record were alright, but their last 2 have been just super generic alterna-radio rock.

and they've never impressed me live the 3x i've seen them. they've got the attitude and look, but musically just really average and sound like a ton of other bands.

to me KoL seem to be championed by rock radio listeners who haven't really cared about "new music" since the late 90's and who are probably super stoked to hear the new "Alice In Chains" album.

    I want a third show!!!!!!!
    I want a different opener!!!!!!!!
I want PJ to give me preference because I live in Philly!!!!!!

Christ people get over it, enjoy the two shows your getting.

Seriously. This board can be wearisome some days.

WHO THE FUCK CAREES ABOUT THE OPENERS? YOU AREN'T GOING FOR THE OPENER. YOU'RE GOING FOR PEARL JAM.

exactly. just be happy that you guys are even getting shows. if you aren't into the opening band, hang out in the parking lot or something. let's see what else we can complain about.

I hope y'all get no opener ... and PJ plays their standard size set list.

Then, we can see 50 more whiny threads about that.

I've seen PJ about 8 times and don't think I ever made it in for any opening act. They never have anyone that is worthwhile to quit tailgating for. Not just saying that closed minded because i have a large variety of tastes and music styles I like. I just haven't been interested in any of the bands they ever choose.

+1 - I actually like his albums but he was horrible in Camden!

He was horrible - I actually got out of my seat and went to sit outside to avoid hearing him.. Horrible!

I know it sucks you guys don't have shows to go....but don't start acting like a bunch of women on your periods ...saying i should be happy with whoever they have open for them is just the same as me saying i don't want to see Ted, it's a fucking opinion!!! oh well...i'll toast you all when i'm in the parking lot waiting for Pearl Jam to come on.

really curious to see what the folks who are saying Ted was "horrible" had as their top 5 albums last year... guessing we just have vastly different tastes outside of PJ. i've actually only ever disliked 1 PJ opener before... The Scollywags in Casper (who played before Bad Relgion and got BOOED off the stage)

anywho, you guys made Ted sad:

but then he got over it quickly:

    :D

anywho, nobody is forcing you to sit through ANY opener, so it seems kind of silly to whine/bitch/moan imo when you only paid to see PJ, anything else is a bonus.

i informed him that he was hated less than Sleater-Kinney at least!

a lot of PJ fans in my experience are kind of close-minded musically in my experience though, so it's no surprise. oh well, as long as I enjoy their openers that's all that really matters to me! 8-)
  • I cried tears of joy the day Sleater Kinney broke up because I knew I would never have to sit through their excruciating set again. I feel like have seen them open for PJ at least 5 times. Ted Leo wasn’t great, but blew away Sleater Kinney.

The thing is we're making our comments having already seen him. It's not like we're basing this on nothing.

Friends of mine who usually come to see and support almost ANY opening act have agreed that Ted Leo & P-funk were just horrible when we saw them at MSG. ...I'd actually be happier seeing Hall & Oats to Ted Leo. Sorry, Ted, if you're reading this... but...

I enjoyed Ted Leo at MSG...it's just that I love both Ben Harper and Bad Religion. I mean very into....It's not that I don't want to see TL, I really had my hopes up for Ben Harper and then seeing Bad religion doing the other 2 shows drove me over the edge.

Regardless, can't wait for Toronto....o wait this thread is about Philly....
