  • I am really sad that Pearl Jam fans have this feeling about Ted Leo. I have to say, though, that I can see why. I was completely BLOWN AWAY when I saw Ted Leo in San Diego at the Casbah, which is a small club venue. Also, when I saw them at the Metro in Chicago they were unbelievable! When I saw them open for Pearl Jam, though, it just wasn't the same. His energy just doesn't come through in that setting. I hope that maybe some of the people that have only been exposed to them from when they opened for PJ give them a chance at a smaller venue or at least check out Shake the Sheets, because that is really an awesome album! Probably best, though, for someone else to open for PJ...Sorry Ted!

The Buzzcocks, The Futureheads and Ted Leo all suffered form the same thing in my opinion ... all were much better in a smaller venue. I love all three bands, have seen them all in small clubs several times and they killed it. In the bigger venues, their sound fell a bit flat and the energy sucks because a majority of the people are so intollerant for anything other than PJ. (I remember telling someone next ot me to shut the hell up as he was yelling shit during the Buzzcocks)

But, Ted's getting a second shot at this ... I'll garauntee he's much tighter and the sound is far better than it was at MSG last year.

I'll also bet he shares a good laugh about it with the fans in Toronto and Philly.

PJ is as guilty as any other headlining band for using intentionally bad levels for opening bands to make their set that much better - not saying its a malicious/spiteful thing... seems to be the norm for every concert ive ever been too... just obnoxiously loud openers

Opening bands for PJ suffer from the whole 'PJ is better than anyone else' crazy cult thing we have going on. Pearl Jam have had some of the best and greatest American and English bands ever. Every 10c member should give the bands a go. I they have had The Ramones, Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, MMJ, Johnny Marr, Frank Black, Ben Harper. The list goes on and on.

    I just want a wilco/PJ show :D

I'm sure you're referring to Ted Leo but who is is really loud? It comes back to your taste in music vs someone else's.

havent seen ted leo open before... i mean in general... not like stylistically loud/punk/heavy stuff... just the volume is inappropriately loud compared to the levels used for the headliner... ive liked nearly all their openers... they just are never as good as they are on their own

and i would be all for a wilco/PJ ticket!!! dear lord! the encore we would get from that show!

    no openers. just PJ.

If there is an opener, I really wouldn't care unless its a really good band. I'm there for PJ, a good opener is just a bonus.

I never got to see Sleater-Kinney live, but I'm surprised at the somewhat universal hate from here. I think all their albums are fantastic. I guess live makes a difference, huh.

I HATE Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. They absolutely sucked last year! I too am hoping they don't open for PJ in Philly but if they do open I'll be sure to hang out in the parking lot for an additional hour because I'm not putting myself through listening to that shit music again.

I have a wide variety of music tastes but Ted Leo is not good! I don't care what anyone says!!!

I'd post the same thing about Ben Harper in Australia, but it won't change things

    Sigh

Would be nice to have a support act that doesnt put you to sleep. Very jealous of Bad Religion :(
  • I'm glad to see im not the only person who doesn't like Ted Leo. I saw them during MSG I and really didn't like them. So for night 2 I just ended up drinking until later and got there right as PJ was coming on.

MERCH IDEA! limited edition face collecting buckets to be placed at your feet for such a melt-worthy hypothetical show (now if only we had a melting face emoticon... get on that 10C!)

and the bucket idea would be cool for beers too... so think about it

I have not heard any of this Ted leo's music, but a lot of you here seem to relly dislike him. Maybe if Ted Got musicians instead of pharmacists things would be better?

Bad Religion rules. Oh and for those of you that think a Ben Harper show will be mellow, you are sadly mistaken.
