No luck on the red dress?

We've worked on this for hours... nada zip zilch.

Hubby keeps saying, "I know these legs!!"

    *smirks* Reaaallly....

He says it's on the tip of his tongue and can't for the life of him figure out whose legs these are.

He'll punch himself once he hears the name... ah well.

I wish we could have contributed to one of the greatest threads for a new album! dang....

I may have missed it - but what about picture #2? I see The Pit and the Pendulum by Poe as mentioned by someone as a possible clue.

Back to lurker mode on this thread unless we hit a jackpot on the first legs...

I know them too, that's what is so bothersome.

    It is definitely someone famous.

It is definitely a sex symbol like Raquel Welch and Ursula Andress from that era.

I tried all the bond girls...no luck.

I was thinking Farrah but its a bathing suit not a dress.

    Makes me so mad

I keep thinking someone like Pam Grier/Foxy Brown era, but couldn't find anything matching.

  • A couple of thoughts...

Snoop DID play Huggy Bear in the Starsky and Hutch remake film...

And fitting with the 60's/70's TV mash-up - I really think that looks like Robin Williams as Mork IN Gilligan's clothes - The eyebrows, nose and chin make me think him over Bob Denver...

And I think those really might be Farrah's legs - one leg straight, one bent at the knee, red bathing suit - they are all essentially wearing bathing suits, so it would fit perfectly.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere...

I think one of the girls standing directly behind him is Raquel Welch, in her famous pose from the movie One Million B.B.

    Raquel_welch_1millionyearsbc.jpg

And the other two girls outfits look strangely familiar as well.
The right would be Ursula Andress in Dr. No

Red Dress Legs: At first I was thinking Jodie Foster from Taxi Driver.......but now I'm thinking Rita Hayworth.
  • Again, no evidence or anything but...

in the upper right photo....the three blonde women coming out of the skull could quite possibly represent the 3 Sirens of mythology that lured sailors to crash their ships into the rocks with their hypnotizing song. It was prophesied when any ship was able to sail past their island without succumbing to the sweet song, the Sirens would leap into the sea and drown.

And WHOA...think I stumbled on something here...while looking for pictures I came across this site...

Look at all those pictures. Apparently the legend of the Sirens relates to UFOs and extra-terrestrials as well...
Some of the photos are obviously doctored, but interesting nonetheless.

There is a UFO in one of the other pictures on the Backspacer cover. This makes me think there is a big common theme here or something.
  • How the F do you get a picture in your post..?

Press the button at the top of your reply that says Img, paste the URL in the middle of it, and viola.

Thanks.. did not know that.. Fascinating!

There is a Kurt Vonnegut book entitled "Sirens of Titan" that has everything to do with UFOs, extra-terrestrials, and other phenomena. Maybe that means something. And maybe I am driving myself on the brink of madness trying to decipher these.

Thought about that also... Pam Grier was in a movie with Snoop Dogg.... he was a pimp.

    Nada...

It has to be a darker skin... hubby said with that skin color, it has to be a dark haired woman. perhaps olive skin, Italian woman maybe?

    we. cannot. give. up.

must. continue.....so we can get our sanity back!

I don't think Seattle is underwater, it looks like the boy is looking into an aquarium with the skyline in the background. Seattle Aquarium maybe?
Could the swimmer be a nod to sea monkeys? But, it looks like a karate pose and she has a cape. ???

Could the red dress lady be Sophia Loren?

In the Uncut interview, Ed mentioned how influential Kurt Vonnegut's writing has been. So if Ed had any imput on the artwork (pretty safe to assume he did) then this connection makes sense.

I found that one too, Im on a mission with that red dress girl, but after looking at it and comparing it came to the conclusion that it can't be it, because Marilyn had really fair skin and the woman on the drawing has a darker tone...

We'll figure out I'm sure, someone will figure it out before we all go nuts! LOL
