While America does eventually make progress on social issues, we are usually about 50 years behind the rest of the Westernized world. the world of today, however, is so dominated by money and corporate interests that it is becoming harder than ever to make changes. heck, Obama isn't even really promoting much of a change to the healthcare system and he STILL can't get anywhere with it!
I don't know about you, but I would rather have a gov't run system than one run by an insurance company that is in business to MAKE MONEY. By denying me a procedure or coverage, they make MORE money. so where is their incentive to help people? they have none, which is why the system is fucked.

so what is the problem with trying to fix it then? first we take care of american citizens, since there are over 300 million of us, and then we start seperating the illegals and getting down to the small stuff. but individuals who do not have insurance and greedy insurance companies cause more of a burden than illegals, rest assured. i didnt see bush try to fix any of this 'illegal immigrant healthcare' crap

i thought we were talking about facts, no? jeez, the illigal immigrant thing is so tired and played and BS that only Lou Dobbs is still promoting it...but in theory I have no problem helping anyone if they need help. just because there is a line drawn on a map doesnt mean those people arent HUMAN and should be helped if they need it. of course, that is not the reality, so you don't have to worry about it.

well, I completely disagree with that statement, as you might guess. I'm more in the "if you have benefited from the commons, you have an obligation to return a proportionate amount to the commons." i will never lose a second of sleep at the thought of people making over $1 million having to pay a percent or two more in taxes to get this healthcare plan workable, which is one of the proposals. don't worry, that will also get stripped out because 80 out of 100 senators will never vote for a tax increase to help people like you or me
