Well then, I guess they have a greed with which you have agreed.

I see these type of threads on here all the time and I don't really understand what the big deal is. Let me start by saying that I make an average but comfortable income. Throughout the year I spend tens of thousands of dollars on things that I need and things that I want. Being single I am probably less conservative than other people but I am very responsible. I do things like go to bars, date women, attend sporting events, attend non-pearl jam concerts, rarely hit a casino and do other random activities. All of the listed activities have come up short in the value department at one time or another unlike attending a pj show in my ten club seats. I think attending events and having the best seats is valuable and ten club tickets would have to be more than they are now to be severely overpriced. Typically event tickets vary in extreme amounts depending on seat location so arguably our seats should be more and the nose bleed seats should be less. I think people also tend to exaggerate about pj's prices and pj's prices compared to other acts. Yeah PJ is not the cheapest act around anymore. If they are slightly overpriced who cares? I have always thought stealing your favorite artists music was bullshit. In the big picture is that going to make or break someone? I pay what I feel is too much for things all of the time. For someone who is not gainfully employed the tickets would be a struggle if they were 50% less. I am sypathetic to those members that get shut out on tickets. I hope that they can improve or correct that but in the bigger markets the ten club probably could sell all of the available tickets but could they manage all that? And getting off topic if the band does something different does everybody have to freak out? Music is art and PJ has a huge catalog. Every song is not going to be your favorite . PJ is not AC/DC. In my opinion they have not made a shitty album yet. Sorry to go on for so long but I have pretty much been on here since day one and it has never been like it is now. Things don't seem all that bad to me.

    Better?

All hail the great wall of text.

I just realised, I pay more for a pair of pearl jam tickets than i do for my semester's bus pass...
Obviously I shell it out because I want to see the band... but when you think of the prices, you can't deny they're getting steep.

There's always tons of complaining i don't agree with on this board but this is one area where i feel its legitimate. Maybe because most of the fan base is growing older and has good jobs? (Must be nice)

    Question...
how much more money do you earn now compared to what you did 6 years ago, or 10 years ago???
How much more has your cost of living gone up in this time??? Gas food etc???

prices go up! deal with it. i earn an ok wage, and how i see it is that i am shelling out no more than 4 hours work after tax to see a show! i am happy with that. it is not fucking 1994 any more, get with the times!

And see my earlier post about ticket prices in other countries and see how well you get it! With cheap enough flights, i only works out maybe $2 or 300 to do 10 shows in the US rather than 10 shows down here in Australia. that is no joke!!!

Any arena act here you are looking at a minumum of $100 AUD - about $80 USD
Pink, love her or hate her SOLD OUT A 58 ARENA SHOW TOUR!!! in Australia that is MASSIVE, cheapest tickets $100 AUD upto $130 AUD 58 shows in a country of 20 million, and where a big arena tour would be 10 shows across the country. we deal with these prices, they are the norm.

the other thing to take into account with some of the cheaper arena prices that have been thrown around here are, how long do they play for? do they play for 2-2.5 hours night after night? are they any good live, are they better than pj live???? Do they give as much money to charity as pj??????

if you dont like the prices, then dont pay them, dont go to the show! simple!
You never told me you were a financial planner?

I think its a bit harsh to say that if you dont like the prices, don't go to the show. Its like saying, if you can't afford the prices, don't go to the show...

I think most of the people who are upset about it are more concerned with the fact that ticket prices have jumped significantly while other bands (LIKE THEIR MUSIC OR NOT) of the same stature (and supposedly moral outlooks) are playing shows for lower prices. I would expect to pay 120 for a KISS ticket, because I've had no reason to believe that money is not Gene Simmons' first priority. I would expect to pay a decent price for a Pearl Jam ticket because I was always lead to believe the band wants to make things affordable for the average person.

I don't think it's completely elitist. I do think that management is focusing on the most lucrative way to make big money, and that's focusing on certain target markets. Taking advantage of the young ("we're looking to broaden our audience") by sucking them in with a trendy Target commercial and an upbeat pop release. Pathetic.

when i say elitist i mean those people that say 'get over it. quit complaining about ticket prices'

the music biz i know doesn't care, they're just doing what they're supposed to do. make money. but IMO they way they're doing it is wrong. there's other ways to make money without raising ticket prices. the way it's going, concert tickets are going to be $1000 a piece soon. Stop the insanity!
