mach, you either love attention or love deleting pms, because everyone and their mother is going to be asking you to email them the new record.
as far as the record having an "unemployable" sound...i love it. i like got some much better than this song, but htis doesn't sound like typical pearl jam...it has some kinda retro 80s thing going on....i like the departure, i like the set melody...its definitely different and its good to see the boys taking chances.
the bridge is fruity- otherwise i'd give this song a solid B.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status
I always have a hard time understanding people honestly disliking whatever their favorite couple of bands come out with new. I mean to each their own I guess.
Song rules.
I agree, I like the song, maybe not the best they have ever done, but I can't wait to hear it live in Chicago next month. I think it will be fun live.
And not everyone is going to like every song, and that is OK. I did not like NAIS as a single.
But there a lot of people the hate everything and anything that is not No Code. Or is Pop. Or has a great riff. Or a catchy chorus. Or is anthemic. Or is off Ten. Or is radio friendly. Or not the most artistically experimental thing the band has ever done. Or does not have life altering lyrics. Etc.
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...
What is so catchy about it? the muffled, strained and powerless "yeah yeah yeahs"?
And regarding the comparision about this and WWS.
I thought WWS was a pretty decent rocksong with some attitude. But I thought as someone mentioned that it (and alot of S/Ts songs) had a lot of lyrics crammed into it (too much for Eddie to handle sometimes, the songs just becomes a "wash" and he can't keep up when singing them).
But i did not think theese "simple" or "few" lyrics was better, or helped this song. he still struggles it sounds, but maybe I'm the only one not liking his new way of singing - with lacks energy, attitude and harmony according to me atleast.
He has a voice that rocks accoustic songs (into the wild), but maybe they should look over the way they write their rocksongs because Eddie has changed his singing into a, to me, weird direction. Sounds so hoarse and strained...
EDIT: But I will listen to it after work with teh volume up and hopefully I start lioving it i really want to.

i don't love this song, but it has me very excited for the new record. there are things going on here that don't happen in pearl jam songs. i LOVE that. bring on backspacer, its been a while since anyone could use the worlds 'pearl jam' and 'departure' in the same sentence.....unless they were talking about taking a road trip.

I always laugh when people say "poppy" and "catchy" like it's supposed to be an insult. I also laugh at the "cheesy" element - admit it, there's always been a fair amount of cheesiness when dealing with Pearl Jam's music ("Better Man", anyone?). It just seems like people are looking for things to criticize instead of just enjoying the music.
It's catchy as all hell. I've had it on repeat for like the last half hour. Can't wait for the album now.
its poppy, yes. upbeat, yes. it also signals a shift in sound for the band. and i like it, mainly because I expect other tracks on the album to fulfill that introspective, deep side to PJ's music. im simply looking at 'the fixer' as a catchy, upbeat first single. and trying to enjoy it as such.

Ilike this track just as much as anybody on here...BUT
How in the world, can you compare this song to BETTERMAN?!
Come on dude....get your ears outta your asscrack!
i don't think they made fun of it. steve does that eddie imitation a lot...
they just said it is a departure from normal pj, more poppy, and some may not like it as much because of that. generally i thought they liked it. then got into how they hate when people support bands to the point where they'll never say anything negative...and played heyfoxymophandlemama as an example of how not everything a band puts out can be good.
...although it does remind me of the pop brilliance of State of Love and Trust which, for some reason, no one ever comments on as being a pop song. Sorry for the comparison.
Interesting point! The Fixer isn't my favorite PJ song by far....but I like it. It's easy to listen to.
The song kicks ass. I love how Pearl Jam is so versatile and willing to try different sounds. Love it!
absolutely. i agree whole-heartedly here...it'll be interesting to hear Backspacer. its clear that they're experimenting with this one. i think the fixer will do well on the radio...despite mmr making fun of it (shit heads)

Haha they bagged it.
"That's the new Pearl Jam... it's uhhh... quite uuhhh... contemporary"
"A little Jonas Brothers..."
"I'm not blown away by it"
Nailed it, as far as I'm concerned.

I htink this nails my opinion on it as well right now. I also think, like all PJ, it will sound WAY better live...more umph!
sounds great LOUD
I don't think so.

Cant wait for T.O.!!
for the record everyone on the show said they liked it. not sure what this guy's talking about.
And there are others that will bash something just to bash it and make it sound like they are some sophisticated music expert.
It's a song people. Either you like it or you don't.
How much did you hear? All of the above was said
