High net worth individuals who derive a great deal of income from their investments get very favorable tax treatment., and, they have many options to commit tax evasion, which is just as bad as welfare fraud.

This emotional plea comes up barren when faced with the facts that today in the United States the wealthy are taxed less than most other industrialized countries, and less than even the United States itself historically since it became an economic power post WWII.
why should the wealthy be taxed as much as other nations? just because other nations do it, doesnt make them right and us wrong.
"Enough is enough" lends itself to the sentiment that your not happy with the current situation and you don't want things to get worse. You seem to be referring to the American tax policy as wrong, not right.
But its perfectly reasonable to look at our own history, or beyond our borders to similar cultures with similar values for perspective.0 -

all true. and what I dont want is higher taxes for anyone. I want lower taxes with less loopholes. find me another country that does that and I'll be happy to agree.0 -
scb wrote:jlew24asu wrote:when is enough, enough? people who make $350k a year already pay the MOST and now you want to tax them more.
what happens when 5% isn't enough to pay for this plan. should we just tack on another 5%? no no, maybe 15%. because thats what it will probably end up costing.
and its almost hilarious that some here think its selfish for OTHERS not to pay more in taxes. are those of you who want the rich to pay for everything going to donate more of your check to the IRS voluntarily? if not, why are you so selfish?
I think it's selfish for rich people to think they are more deserving of health care than poor people.
Lesson #1 - Don't call a poor person "poor."
Lesson#2 - See Lesson #1.
You appear judgemental - just in your response. You're not currently "looking down your nose" right now - are you? Learn a new term. Can you please define what you mean by "poor?" There are so many shades of it. I find the term "poor" offensive. The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated - Gandhi

I'm a CPA too so I'm wondering about your statement "they have many options to commit tax evasion"....what options are you referring to? tax evasion being illegal and all....or did you mean tax avoidance?
And it is actually "qualified" dividends that get preferential tax rates not ordinary...Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

deductions among other things. I support lower taxes across the board, or a flat tax. I think the government would make more money and people would have more in their pockets.0
