Well...I guess she thinks she is ready for the national stage. I think the 2012 campaign will be kicking off halfway through 2009

I've been saying that for the last eight months.
  • Palin resigning as Alaska governor
WASILLA, Alaska -Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday she is resigning from office at the end of the month, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate made the surprise announcement from her home in suburban Wasilla on Friday morning. She said she would step down July 26 but didn't announce her plans.
"Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lame_duck_(politics) status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose," Palin said in a statement released by her office.
"It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success," she said.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor's picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month, Palin spokesman Dave Murrow said.
Palin was first elected in 2006 on a populist platform. But her popularity has waned as she waged in partisan politics following her return from the presidential campaign. Her term would have ended in 2010.

I just don't understand how so many people take her so seriously. I wonder where she thinks she's going from here.

if in fact she does run for president i am predicting right now that she will not make it past the super tuesday in 2012. the other GOP candidates are going to use everything in their arsenal against her and i think there are a lot of skeletons in her closet that are going to be brought out in the national campaign if she runs for the top-of-the-ticket. the GOP needs a can't lose candidate and clearly she is not it.

i thought i read or heard a couple of weeks ago that she may be considering running for the senate seat in the next election.

Right......so wondering if something may come out. Listened to her speech and was comprised of unrelated talking points merged together into scrambed mess.

Like what ?? Everything about the woman and her family have been scrutinized by the media and every one else that hates her. What's left ? No one has ever been more demonized in politics than that family has.

Seriously? May I ask how old you were in the years of 1996-1999? Hell, 1993-2001. You think the media was tough on Bristol? I would have lived in a cave for the rest of my life if I were Chealsea Clinton.

Whenever a candidate runs for office they're going to be scrutinized by the media and the public especially Sarah Palin's case since she was basically was unheard of before last years Presidential election.
Only in our hyperactive news environment can a political reporter feel embarrassed for coming late (a full hour behind the action) to the puzzling Sarah Palin resignation story because he was quietly reading at home on an unofficial national holiday. But quickly scanning the initial news stories, I kept encountering widespread speculation that Palin was abruptly stepping down as governor so that she could concentrate full time on running for president.Nonsense. There are many potential explanations for her decision -- and do not rule out the most obvious that she quickly wants to make scads of money unencumbered by Alaska's ethics laws. But the idea that Palin somehow needs to jump-start her 2012 presidential campaign two-and-a-half years in advance is as ludicrous as the idea that she is abandoning the governorship to spend more time with the John McCain's aides who were so warm and supportive during her vice presidential phase.

A nice article on Sarah Palin's decision today. What the Sarah Palin Bombshell Means

It would be a real shame if she was your first female president. You'd want a milestone like that to be remembered positively by the public which I doubt it will.

She couldn't browbeat David Letterman, let alone Barack Obama.

I'm not a gambling man, but I'd wager on Michael Jackson playing all fifty dates at the 02 Arena this summer before placing a bet on Palin's political ascendancy.

    Happy fourth of July.

They're reporting she's resigning because of all the ethics questions. If that's the case, I can't see how this helps her in any way for the 2012 election.

Personally, I hope she runs

I'd like to think she's going away, but she'll probably turn up on Fox News.

I actually DID watch it, I'm embarrassed to say.

You know, like you rubberneck at a car wreck. She was all over the place explaining why she was a good point guard and knew when to pass the ball and it wasn't going to be politics as usual anymore. :?

Her timing seems a little strange. Friday of a holiday weekend? The story will get a lot less play although I'm sure she's still going to get her share of attention.

Hahaha. She talks about not quitting then she quits. She's a QUITTER. If every governor was like her they would quit right after being reelected so they wouldnt be a lameduck politician. What a joke. If she is the Republican frontrunner for President then that party is in serious trouble.

I've got to find her speech now, after reading these replies.

Perhaps she thinks that her news will trump Michael Jackson news? ;)

Yeah, she's quitting politics entirely. Couldn't handle the "political bloodsport". And though the media has been brutal and especially unkind to her kids, most of the criticism of her is deserved, and she just couldn't hack it. I say there's a zero percent chance of her running for President. She said she wants to affect change outside of government - i.e. something like working for a PAC that collects money from old ladies at bingo games so they can yell and scream about abortion or 'protecting' marriage.

I agree. I'm thinking something BIG must have been found out so she's quitting before it all hits the fan.

I also agree on her speaking abilities. You can tell that someone writes a bunch of sound bytes for her and then she strings them together for an incoherent garble about nothing. For the life of me, I don't understand how anyone can possibly take her seriously.

    Hate? I don't think so.
An aversion to demonstrated lack of common sense and intellect? Definitely! :D
