  • Yes he did. He played my companies private party in Lanai. He hung out afterwards for a few hours and had drinks around the pool. The setlist was typical Ed solo list, but more covers - i dont have it exactly but was being texted throughout. I have a photo of him playing with one of my VP's sons.

    This is 100% confirmed.

What company? What venue? That would have been great to see.

post that picture - since its not an EV solo show it shouldnt be a problem...
  • They were the Four Seasons resort in Lanai. The party was for the top 100 Oracle sales reps in the world. So it was very exclusive.

How do I upload the photo?

Post it before this thread gets locked, like the other one.

All I can say is, I hope Ed picked that corporate pocket bigtime, and of course donate all the money to charity. It would be the right thing to do. :D

  • Our guests typically take home over $300K at the general type of awards trips. This one being more exclusive, I would imagine he got more than that for this.

I hate to echo what others have mentioned in the locked thread, but it looks like Ed corporately sold out big time. UNLESS he donates it all. Who knows what he would do anymore.

Is the photo online? If so, when you reply, hit the Img tab, and copy & paste the URL of the photo in between the brackets. I don't know how to do it any other way.
  • Give me a site to publish to and I will put it online. I honestly don't know how to do this.

You're right, he totally did.

What if he did donate all the money he made to one of his favorite Org's, and I believe this to be realistic. Don't you feel like an ahole for calling him a sell out. I realize you said as much but the emphasis of your post and many other people around these parts are to question the ethics of ed and the band first. I just don't get that.
  • I don't really blame him at all. He was probably already in Hawaii and he gets to go pick up a few hundred grand for a short set to a small audience, then gets to hang out and stay at the Four Seasons in Lanai for free. Who wouldn't do that? I sure as hell would.

And, for the record, i would too. But you wouldn't hear me rail about corporations for 15 years before I took that money. :)

Hmmm.... I just put three minutes of hard thought into this.

Eddie Playing for a room of people that dont know anything about him other than the Jeremy video should be as comfortable as me I going to a church in Kansas or Colorado Springs to give a talk on Evolution. Let me just say, I wouldn't fit in and it wouldn't be in my top fifty target audiences. So, the goal at a church would be singular - and that would be to try to get people to open their eyes. Since that would be futile, there would be absolutely no point to be in front of the congregation. Now, if there was money involved, it would be all about the money.

But if it is all about the music and the connection with the crowd, well, wait, no, that wouldn't be present at the church.

    I am confused.

How does anybody know that the room was full of people who know nothing about him? This is a band that has been around for almost 20 years, has had huge albums, was at one time one of the biggest acts in the country and still might be today...and because these guys are sales reps they know nothing about any of that? Sorry, I can't believe that is true.

I have no problem with Eddie playing a concert for a company. My bet is that at least a portion of the funds went to charity, but even if that didn't happen, so be it. He is an artist and a musician, and he is paid to be both. No one should pass judgment on him for making a living.

I agree. I couldn't care less if it was a corporate thing--this is his livelihood--sounds like a great gig to me!

great point. not all fans of this band live on the Pit. as a matter of fact...nevermind, I'll keep my opinion of this board to myself.

what if he played a show for the Estate Planning Lawyers of Lake County? I'd be there, but everyone who wasnt would assume it was just a bunch of d-bags who wanted to hear Better Man.

and why do you think the band is back into playing festivals? easy $. this is America. let them make money so they can continue to make music. they were naive back in the day. they have seen the light. just because you make good money doesnt make you evil.

Jeeeeeeez ........ Just expressing a feeling more than an opinion. Something just doesnt feel right....... I'm not bringing up whether he has a right to do it, or if the world is going to collapse.... It is just one of those things that is not expected, so it takes some time to digest and recalibrate a few things. I dont know or pretend to know the band, but I do have an image of them and what they stand for. Not everything they do lines up with that image. All I am saying is that on a list of 100 musicians, I would have put Eddie at the bottom of the list of "most likely to play a corporate gig". Maybe I was naive, maybe I was blinded by something.....who knows, who cares...... I just won't stop saying something feels "off" because you guys grunt and say yes yes yes to everything that happens. And, unlike what is being written by people that are not taking a second to scratch their heads, I am not saying you are wrong. Fuck......counseling 101. Let me feel what I feel.

    Okay, now I feel happy.

ahahahahha......... everyone lighten up......people do weird shit.....it's like what Richard Pryor once said....."money is like cocaine, too much is not enough.."

I think they crossed into this realm when they booked the casino gig at the Borgata.

Nothing new... and I'd bet he's keeping most or all of the money.

Keep in mind, his manager makes a percentage and his agent makes a percentage, plus he has a touring crew to pay for and travel expenses.

He's making some serious dough, but he's got expenses too.

I'm uncomfortable with this notoriously anti-corporate/anti-sponsorship band doing a complete 180 turnaround - however, I try to keep in mind that with the illegal file sharing that eats into their pockets with record sales, I suppose they are trying to make it up on the other end of things.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • Do they even know who he is :?:
Everyone is born, but not everyone is born the same. Some will grow to be butchers, or bakers, or candlestick makers. Some will only be really good at making Jell-O salad. One way or another, though, every human being is unique, for better or for worse.

I'm thinkin' 2012 Republican National Convention is gonna be a hot ticket for him! Those dudes are LOADED!

But seriously, family/kids in the picture -- I don't begrudge him a penny of making money from his art any way he wants. And with the file sharing aspect, falling CD sales, etc is a good point -- gotta branch out. And it's not like he going to STOP doing great things for charities, foundations and causes. Not like he's gonna stop speaking his mind and backing it up.

Perhaps we can see him as just a lil' bit of Robin Hood, neh?
