This story really irritates me to no end.

They have no business playing with a one week old puppy. The dog's eyes have not even opened yet, this thing should not have left the side of the mother. The parents of this boy are irresponsible.
Here is another, same website, a serial killer to boot.

I didn't click the link, because I am sad enough as it is regarding animal abuse and agree there are just WAY too many of these abuse stories coming out...feels like its more than usual these days too. I don't understand what is wrong with people.| valerie |

I'm not going to click either. I have a heart for animals. I am a big humanitarian in that aspect, and I am hoping to become more of an animal activist as I grow older.0

The first story is more sad for everyone involved, not really animal abuse, in my opinion. Looks like it worked out fine though. Do you have kids?hippiemom = goodness0

Ok, that is classic unintentional funny. I know what you mean, but what do you think "humanitarian" means?hippiemom = goodness0 -
Ok I clicked on it. :P I saw this story on the news last night...it was sad but glad the little pup is ok luckily...but sometimes that is not the case.
I have a big problem with the way parents interact and introduce their family pets to their kids. Most don't take the time to care or do it right. I don't have kids yet but when I do (end of summer, yay!) I'm going to make sure to practice proper pet education and supervision. I feel that parents need to help educate their kids on animal welfare and caring - and teach them how to properly handle animals...and to NOT allow a child of a certain age to play with a pet without supervision - which I would hope most parents can decipher when their child is at an age to be trusted alone with a pet. What bugs me about this puppy situation you posted about...the parent was not supervising the child and puppy - I am surprised the mother wasn't more responsible.| valerie |

"someone devoted to the promotion of human welfare and to social reforms"
I knew what I meant, I just worded it wrong. I meant it for the metaphorical value. Although if you wanted to get political humans are mammals.0 -

I'm with you 100%. I am veggie and pretty much like animals better than most people.
I didn't read the stories because I always get upset and depressed. When I see/hear animal abuse in the news, I pretty much have one punishment come to my mind that's far worse than death.....and since it's usually men who are perpetrating the abuse.......just use your imagination and you'll figure it out. Castration is the only thing that I can think of that would cause the most amount of pain and suffering.
People pick on animals because they are helpless and pretty much defenseless. How low can a human being stoop? Child abuse is the only other criminal act that is in the same league and for my money, the same "punishment" should be rendered.~I want to realize brotherhood or identity not merely with the beings called human, but I want to realize identity with all life, even with such things as crawl upon earth.~

In that instance, yes. I used the word "usually" because "usually" males are the offenders in addition to being repeat offenders. Harsh I know, and I realize that very few people would agree with me, but I really can't think of anything I really hold hatred for except animal and child abusers.~I want to realize brotherhood or identity not merely with the beings called human, but I want to realize identity with all life, even with such things as crawl upon earth.~

Male calves and pigs have their testicles torn out without anaesthesia. Cattle are branded, and horns are lopped off. Pigs have their tails sliced off. Chicks have the tips of their sensitive beaks cut off so that they don't peck each other to death when crammed into standing room-only battery cages.

All for the sake of the bottom line. There is no humanity in the food industry, yet many of these people are devoted pro-lifers. If you're not supposed to rape women, why do they have compatible sex organs?

What you obviously missed, is that people who think fetuses shouldn't be killed, don't mind maiming and killing living animals. All life should be considered sacred. But I don't expect you to understand that philosophy judging from some of the posts I've seen from you on various threads.~I want to realize brotherhood or identity not merely with the beings called human, but I want to realize identity with all life, even with such things as crawl upon earth.~

The abuse of animals has been happening all along, it's just that in past few years high profile personalities have been caught in their abuse.
