amnesiac sucked, plain and simple. bremerton nailed it when he pointed out that there are about 3 good songs to an album post-ok computer. they're a pale shadow of what they once were. and that'd be fine if their idiot fans didn't insist that thom yorke's shit doesn't stink.
Rather, some bands have "it" and others do not. A sucky Radiohead album (or Pearl Jam, Killers) is better than others blah, blah you've heard it all before.. So while qualitycan said to be down from OKComputer, it is better than anything from other bands. I mean we can't listen to Tool can we? No, that is an absurd legally retarded idea . Hail to the Thief of course shows this "Bremerton" guy to be "an idiot", as I can name at least 9 good songs from that one (2+2,Sail,Go to Sleep,WhereIEnd,TheremThere..etc..etc..) Hell, I can name 5 good songs off Amnesiac.0 -

ill agree that a mediocre radiohead album is better than most crap out there. just that that doesnt mean they're perfect.0 -
Ridin The Wave wrote:Similarly, those of us who actually think their music after OK Computer is just as good, don't understand why people like you say they're trying to hard, when in fact they're just making something different and people aren't willing to grow with them.
Get over yourself. Just because you haven't liked what they've released after OK Computer doesn't mean that everyone who does like it has some uber-idea of Radiohead and won't admit when they make something bad.
My opinion, Pablo Honey sucks, as a whole. I like 3 songs, maybe. Ok Computer and beyond is what actually gets me going.
Realize that your opinion is yours and mine is mine, just as everyone else here has their own.
who gave us that quote about how "x-million people can't be wrong"? radiohead is not winning any new fans. they tried to dabble into ambient electronic music. it has resulted in mediocre rock music and mediocre electronic music. they're not turning on any rock fans nor any electronic fans. all they're doing anymore is giving the diehards wet dreams about what a genius thom is. nobody else cares or is listening.0 -
Sexy2aFault wrote:I like them, I even like Amnesiac and that album sucks.
They have been spotty since Kid A, neither of their last two have been complete albums. Amnesiac is about 50/50 with amazing songs(You & Whose Army?, Life in a Glasshouse, I Might Be Wrong, Pyramid Song, Like Spinning Plates, Knives Out) and unintersting songs. HTTT only has a few bad tracks(I can't stand Sit Down, Stand Up or Backdrifts) but the rest of the album is only 'good', they don't have any really amazing tracks on the album. That being said, any album with 6 amazing songs or with 10+ good songs is going to be something I like.
It is amazing when people refuse to believe that others actually enjoy an album. Not everybody who likes Amnesiac or HTTT is a Radiohead apologist digging for bright spots when there are none to be found. Some people genuinely enjoy the albums, not everybody has motives for saying which albums they enjoy.0 -

That was my opnion and I was not puting you down for liking their new stuff. I agree with you that Pablo Honey sucks.
My 2 points:
I don't understand why they got away from the stuff that made OK Computer and The Bends masterpieces. I'm not saying Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief are bad albums. I listen to them and think they are pretty good. However, I don't think they compare to The Bends and OK Computer and it dissapoints me a bit that they got away from the stuff that made them so good just so they could be different.
My second point is I don't get why some fans can't just admit that one album is not as good as another. I love Pearl Jam to death and they are a huge part of my life. However, I don't go around saying that everything they have ever done is a masterpiece that is flawless. That is just ignorance. It seems that a lot of Radiohead fans do that. Don't take it personally but thats just the impression I get from a lot of RH fans.0 -

Saying that Radiohead sucks after OK Computer is like saying the Beatles sucked after Rubber Soul - it doesn't make any sense.0

I agree that "Backdrifts" simply sounds like a B-side from their Kid-A/Amn. days, but "Sail to the Moon" is a classic. It not only fits in with OKComputer, it is better than any song they have done. "Go To Sleep" and "2+2" exceed the guitar songs from the Bends, and "There,There" is solid. Hail to the Thief is an under-rated album.
"Maybe you...... could be President, but know you right from wrong." I love that part.0 -
CM1847 wrote:On the other hand, is it so hard to believe that people genuinely do enjoy all of their albums(except Pablo Honey, there is no excuse for that)? I agree that the people who say everything from The Bends on is a 5 star album are unreasonable, but I can still enjoy HTTT while acknowledging it is far from a masterpiece. Just because I enjoy the album doesn't mean I think it is as good as some of their other albums. A lot people seem to relate liking an album like HTTT(one that is generally accepted as being worse than their other works) to being a blind fanboy of a band, which is as annoying of a mistake as those people who want to claim that everything Radiohead has done is perfect.
pablo honey is a good album
but this is our point... the people who say everything after the bends is 5 stars and a masterpiece are annoying. and i think there are a lot more of them than you're allowing. im glad you're not one of them, but there are still a LOT of them and they annoy the bejesus out of me.0 -

My point is that for as many people that fall into your category of annoying Radiohead fans, there are just as many who fall into my category of saying "everything except The Bends & OK Computer is crap, anybody who likes any of their other albums is a fanboy and can't make musical judgements on their own." Just because I like songs from HTTT doesn't mean I think it is a masterpiece, there are way too many people who are so anti-Radiohead that they think liking anyhting not on OKC is just being a fanboy or giving in to critical praise.0 -
They are one of my favorite bands. Their music is amazing, haunting, beautiful...
Hail To The Thief and OK Computer are my faves. Is it so wrong to think that love can keep us safe?0 -

They are possibly my favorite band. I mean who puts out an album like OK Computer, then follow it up with an album like Kid A and not skip a beat. The talent in that band is rediculous.0

And that's all I want them to do. I could care less if Joe-Blow next to me has a wet dream over their music, but so long as I do, I will continue to think their music is awesome, important and still relevant in this society.
I guarantee that there are more non-fans than fans out there for every band in existence. That does not make any band any less significant in the eyes of each individual fan, especially those that have wet dreams about them.0 -

They successfully "dabbled" into ambient electronic music from a straight forward rock sound which is unheard of. That in itself not only shows you the talent of the band, but shows you the testicular fortitude of the band. No band out there had or has the balls to do that. They did. And thats what a band is supposed to do. Evolve into something totally new, which 99% of the bands out there either don't understand or are too lazy. And, i don't care what you say, Kid A is one of the most critically acclaimed albums in the last 10-15 years.
The "x-million people cant be wrong" statement is just stupid and not worth commenting on.0 -
i love radiohead, not very fond of amnesiac really...and kid A aint too bad...the rest is amazingGiven To Fly

well i hope you dont think im one of them. i like pablo honey and kid a, though neither is my favorite. i think amnesiac sucks. hail to the thief was boring. but im open to a good radiohead album. i just dont think they've done one lately. certainly nothing that approaches masterpiece levels.0 -

since when is a band "supposed" to do something totally new? should we have novelists writing poetry? no, becos their strengths lie in novels, not poetry. artists have a passion and a calling and changing for the sake of changing is stupid. if you're the best at what you do, why go on to a mediocre career in something else (see michael jordan's baseball career) that means you're pissing your talent away.
ive no doubt radiohead's electronic experimentation was from the heart, but from what i've heard, it wasn't too impressive by electronic standards. nor was it very impressive by rock standards. it was only impressive to rock fans who were going to write radiohead a blank check for whatever they did and decided to write it becos radiohead was so "brave" in making a mediocre electronica album.0 -
sorry man.. i have to disagree with u on that one.....radiohead are one of my favorite bands......u should give them a chance im sure u would like some songs......check out these songs:
