That is something that doesn't belong on this thread, I didn't buy it first.« One man's glory is another man's hell.
You’re on the outside, never bound by such a spell.
Together in the darkness, alone in the light.
I took it upon me to be yours, Timmy,
I’ll lead your angels and demons at play tonight......»0 -
First cd I ever owned was Queen Greatest Hits. Got it as a present for my 12th birthday from my grandparents along with my first discman.
The first tape I ever owned was Sgt. Pepper which I got for my 7th or 8 birthday along with my first walkman from my parents.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -

Some days you wake up and sit on a park bench next to an eighty year old Russian architect, and some days you don't. I think this is my new life philosophy.

Pink Floyd-"Dark Side of The Moon".......sometime in the 1980's??????All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0

CD: Ben Folds Five - self titled (purchased in July of 97)
1st album overall: Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill (early 87 when I was in kindergarten)
My 2nd CD purchase (when it came out) was PJ's Yield.0 -
I have no idea, it was back in 87 or 88 I think and I bought several, but I remember my first album, it was The Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like An Eagle" back in 76 or 77, whenever it came out."Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)

I've been into U2 and R.E.M. snce I was in elementary school (late 1980's) and had tapes of them. But, when I was 14 my uncle bought me a cd player as a belated birthday gift (it had been like 8 months prior). A few weeks later my dad said "You've had that cd player for a while but nothing to play on it, let's get you a cd." So, we went to the store and I couldn't decide what to get so I picked up "Ten." I didn't know Pearl Jam, but knew that everyone at school who liked the same music as me raved about them. So we got home and I popped it in......AND HATED IT. I had no idea they were so loud. And what the hell was this Eddie guy so angry about?
My heart literally sank when I went into the living room later and my dad asked me "How's the new cd, bud?" I kind of stumbled and said "It's ok dad, I need to listen to it a little more."
Boy, am I glad I did. After a few listenings, "Black," "Porch," and "Jeremy" became my favorites and soon after I loved the whole cd. And an obsession was born. To this day, not so much the music, but the liner notes from "Ten" make me think of 8th grade.
A funny side note. When we were at the store that fatefeul night, I was trying to pick between "Ten" and, get this, Genesis "We Can't Dance." I thought "I Can't Dance" was actually a kind of clever song. I'm glad I went with "Ten" though.
I wonder if I had gone with Genesis if today I'd have 50+ Genesis / Phil Collins cd's. Or if I'd have gone to see THEM umpteen times and if Pearl Jam would be kind of a sidenote in my mind.
