I have no idea, it was back in 87 or 88 I think and I bought several, but I remember my first album, it was The Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like An Eagle" back in 76 or 77, whenever it came out.
"Music, for me, was fucking heroin." eV (nothing Ed has said is more true for me personally than this quote)
I've been into U2 and R.E.M. snce I was in elementary school (late 1980's) and had tapes of them. But, when I was 14 my uncle bought me a cd player as a belated birthday gift (it had been like 8 months prior). A few weeks later my dad said "You've had that cd player for a while but nothing to play on it, let's get you a cd." So, we went to the store and I couldn't decide what to get so I picked up "Ten." I didn't know Pearl Jam, but knew that everyone at school who liked the same music as me raved about them. So we got home and I popped it in......AND HATED IT. I had no idea they were so loud. And what the hell was this Eddie guy so angry about?
My heart literally sank when I went into the living room later and my dad asked me "How's the new cd, bud?" I kind of stumbled and said "It's ok dad, I need to listen to it a little more."
Boy, am I glad I did. After a few listenings, "Black," "Porch," and "Jeremy" became my favorites and soon after I loved the whole cd. And an obsession was born. To this day, not so much the music, but the liner notes from "Ten" make me think of 8th grade.
A funny side note. When we were at the store that fatefeul night, I was trying to pick between "Ten" and, get this, Genesis "We Can't Dance." I thought "I Can't Dance" was actually a kind of clever song. I'm glad I went with "Ten" though.
I wonder if I had gone with Genesis if today I'd have 50+ Genesis / Phil Collins cd's. Or if I'd have gone to see THEM umpteen times and if Pearl Jam would be kind of a sidenote in my mind.
Nah..
I love my female wife...

i'm really glad i don't have to lie about the first cd i ever bought...
guns n' roses - appetite for destruction
nice! mine also. It was the start of replacing my vinyl collection (Appetite was the only one I kept). Of course I also have to admit to picking up Faster Pussycat's debut at the same time.....though I still bust that out from time to time
CD: Ben Folds Five - self titled (purchased in July of 97)
Excellent album...
My first CD was a compilation that was done for the X Games featuring songs by Mudhoney, Wilco, Dinasaur Jr., and some other less memorable bands. That was given to me as a birthday present.
The first CD I bought for myself was 16 Stone by Bush.
....a really under-rated record which was sadly "borrowed" from me many years ago now.

Got Will Smith's "Willennium" for my first CD, it was a gift. At the time I was never really into music, other than that my brother gave me "Incesticide" by Nirvana.
The first I bought with my own money were Soundgarden's "Superunknown" as well as "Nevermind" by Nirvana.
The first record i was ever given was Give In To Me - Michael Jackson (with Slash)
First tape was Def Leppard i think, the one before Hysteria, cant remember what it was called.
First cd i was given was something shit like a mix of the popular songs that were out at the time, so you had cast/oasis/blur on one cd and take that and stuff on the other, woohoo, lol.
Cant remember the first cd i bought though, maybe whats the story.
my first CD was blood sugar sex magik, had the cassette prior and it was the first CD i had to have.
the first cassettes i can remember my parents buying for me were def leppard: pyromania , joan jett: i love rock n' roll, and john cougar: american fool.

I also bought Vs. when it came out. Well, I am very proud of my early childhood taste in music and funny how it has never changed!
The first I bought with my own money were Soundgarden's "Superunknown" as well as "Nevermind" by Nirvana.
