    Maybe you’re just maga-curious.

You know… the casual racism perks an ear up…oh no, I don’t like HIM. He’s maga…(thinks to self) then why do I like what he’s saying? HIS racist comments are generalizations; mine are lived experiences!

You hear someone say the word “laptop” and you turn your head quickly with a smirk, only to see it was uttered by a guy wearing a red hat.

Wait…I thought EVERYONE knew Hunter was corrupt. I can’t be…(flicks wrist forward, indicating a “can’t be” gesture, realizing it was effeminate, quickly tries to reverse the motion to somehow cancel it).

You’re walking out of Pottery Barn or Northern Tool, you hear someone say “evil democrats, everything they touch turns to shit”, you turn around to shout HELLS YEAH and you see a woman in s Let’s Go Brandon t shirt.

Just do it. Buy some trump coin. Try on those American flag zubaz pants made in CHY-NA.

Ya know ya WANNA. Just try it. We think you’ll like it.

I'm honestly surprised you do not have to show proof of ID to vote.  I am pretty aligned with requiring it.  I believe the support is there from the VAST majority of Americans.  Just implement it ... but from the mindset/goal of "We want people to be able to vote".  Making it easy to get what you need if you do not have it, or define an alternative solution for those rare cases where a driver's license, for example, is not easy to obtain.
Here in Red Long Island I’ve never had to show proof of who I am at the voting place! I show up walk up to table they ask my name I give it to them verbally not by showing my license! They look up my name and address and off I go to pull the lever.
Where I live in NYC they ask for our name and address and they look it up in a book that has copies of our driver’s license signatures. We then have to sign something and they see if the signatures match.

Basically voting works just fine and up you are a dummy if you think otherwise.
I have read so many voter fraud takes that I agree it seems so minute if it does happen.

I wouldn't mind the ID/citizenship showing for voting just so I never have to hear about this being an issue ever again.
As long as they can get everyone who needs an ID one at no cost, with no hoops and the easiest of effort, I’m fine with it too.
In this day and age there are people struggling to get an ID but have the ability to go out and vote?

Call me living under a rock if that is a thing.
It’s not easy to go out and vote either. we should be making it as easy as possible for everybody who wants to do it,  not adding more hurdles that will make it difficult for people.
Between early voting, absentee ballots, multiple voting locations, and polls being open 12 hours, if you didn't vote previously it's because you didn't want to.

this is a very black and white way of looking at it. doesn't take into account if that save law passes, if you do not have a passport you can't vote. does not take into account the need for a birth certificate to get proper id. does not take into account that a married woman would have to get special documentation since their married name does not match their birth certificate, does not take into account the purposeful reduction in the amount of voting machines in the poor community forcing long lines and people having to potentially take off a full day of work. does not take into account trump trying to outlaw vote by mail.

voting should be free and easy for all citizens.

the problem is not with "voter fraud". it is with republicans deliberately trying to disenfranchise groups that vote democratic.

    Great question.

For the most part nothing. You would think, everyone has some sort of id for something, but in the US that is not the case. Because you need birth certificates, social security cards, 2 pieces of mail from a utilities provider or credit card company/bank proving your address, as well as a the time to get the id (if you can’t get the time off during work hours when they are open, they re open for a few on Saturdays). On top of that, they charge you money for it.

There’s a good portion of an Americans who don’t have those things or cannot get/afford those things. This also neglects all the micro changes that can happen that affects the things above (passports have their hoops to jump through for its application, people get married and change names so you need a new social security card, people move, etc)

so while it’s doable, it’s a process. The constitution guarantees the right to vote. It explicitly forbids a poll tax, which is charging for the right to vote, which is essentially what needing an id is.

On top of all of that, voter fraud is such a statistical insignificant occurrence that if done, is usually caught. All voter id laws set out to do is to prevent people from voting, not protect it.

on top of that this SAVE act doesn’t change any of the currently existing process, all it does is allow poll workers and states a loop hole to deny people the right to vote based on arbitrary circumstances.
Oh God get it together. State ID, drivers license or Passport. It's not that hard. You don't have to bring your birth certificate (Jesus Christ). Just like all the fraud going on in Minnesota and now the hospice fraud in California you don't think the voter fraud is real as well? I come to realize most of you have zero street smarts.  ...If you do not think there is voter fraud I have a vaccine I want to sell you.

Convicted fraudsters Trump has pardoned this year:

    Jason Galanis — ~$200M+
    Joseph Schwartz — ~$38M
Lawrence Duran — ~$205M (Medicare fraud billed; ~$87M paid)
Carlos Watson — ~$60M investor fraud
Trevor Milton — ~$20M+ investor losses
Todd Chrisley — ~$30M bank fraud
Julie Chrisley — ~$30M bank fraud
Devon Archer — ~$60M tribal bond scheme
George Santos — ~$44K–$1M+ (multiple fraud schemes)
Michele Fiore — ~$70K charity fraud
Brian Kelsey — ~$90K campaign finance fraud
    Scott Jenkins — ~$75K bribery/fraud scheme
Paul Walczak — ~$10M+ tax fraud
    Adriana Camberos — ~$1M+ counterfeit/fraud

Again, this bill is not making “ID required” (Pretty much in most cases you need to prove who you are in some form when you check in to vote). This bill is making it so it’s easier to turn people away under the bad faith premise that people are trying to game the system when the current system already has successful measures in place to prevent it.
Yes I am aware of this particular bill and why it should not be passed.  But, like most things, if congress had done anything meaningful on this issue over the last 20-30 years we probably wouldn't have this stupid bill.
But if there has been next to no problem, what would they need to do anyway?
Its a valid question for sure.  I feel like voting is an important thing to get 100% correct though.  I would also prefer additional means of voting that are even easier...but would want some identification process for this so seems like first place to start is just showing your id to vote today.

A source showing evidence of how widespread voter fraud is would go a long way for your argument @shadowcast.

But something tells me you may be too far gone.

I just feel like if its not an issue, why spend time dealing with it. There are more immediate concerns that we should be spending time on.

I mean, the real issue that needs to be dealt with in terms of voting is why don't we have more people getting involved in the process? (what is it, like only 50% vote? terrible) THATS worth spending time on. But its the inverse of the reason why Voter ID is an "issue" today. They like having people stay home and not participating, wheras this SAVE act is to keep more people away from the process.

The less people that participate, the more it is easier to maintain the status quo.

I said in previous elections. The save act does not apply retroactively.
I don't agree with all of the save act, but I do think there is nothing wrong with basic ID requirements. As Tempo pointed out, nobody is struggling to get a basic ID and who is willing and able to go out and vote.

But again, the SAVE act doesn't change ID requirements in place, it makes it easier to turn people away for the irregularities or issues.

Also, everyone who supports this presupposes that voter fraud is an issue that exists. Which it doesn't.

You can't function as an adult without ID.
Without ID you can't legally drive, have insurance, have a checking account, get a loan, rent an apartment, get a credit card, get utilities....
Where are all these people who struggle to do any of this? You can't live an adult life without basic ID.
Sure, maybe some homeless guy living under the pier gets by without it.....but I probably don't see him lining up at the polls either.

You can’t fathom that people like that exist?
