In this day and age there are people struggling to get an ID but have the ability to go out and vote?Tim Simmons said:

I have read so many voter fraud takes that I agree it seems so minute if it does happen.Tim Simmons said:Basically voting works just fine and up you are a dummy if you think otherwise.
I wouldn't mind the ID/citizenship showing for voting just so I never have to hear about this being an issue ever again.

Consider this google search a learning experience for me.

So main problem is current address on their ID. I can see that. I do wonder if the people with that problem are actually voting? The study doesn't cover that though.0 -
It’s not easy to go out and vote either. we should be making it as easy as possible for everybody who wants to do it, not adding more hurdles that will make it difficult for people.tempo_n_groove said:

Again, this bill is not making “ID required” (Pretty much in most cases you need to prove who you are in some form when you check in to vote). This bill is making it so it’s easier to turn people away under the bad faith premise that people are trying to game the system when the current system already has successful measures in place to prevent it.0

I don't have a problem with it as long as the assistance is there to get people IDs prior to election day. There are people that cannot make it to the polls to vote so that could be a giant project to get them registered properly.cincybearcat said:I'm honestly surprised you do not have to show proof of ID to vote. Tangentially related, we need to expand mail in voting, Not contract it.0

That is the other bugaboo. The stories that are easily fabricated and ran with about "finding" 10k votes or them showing up in a car, as I would guess voting would sometimes do, and claiming they are fake votes is all too much.Tim Simmons said:Tangentially related, we need to expand mail in voting, Not contract it.
Can you fix that aspect of it and stop the rumor mills or its always going to be there?0 -
There is no way to convince everyone. It will always be there. Some people will just never trust institutions.
I mean, hell, we see examples all the time of people seeing with their own eyes (not in regards to voting, but literally anything conspiracy related) and still going on with their denial.

Yes I am aware of this particular bill and why it should not be passed. But, like most things, if congress had done anything meaningful on this issue over the last 20-30 years we probably wouldn't have this stupid bill.Tim Simmons said:Again, this bill is not making “ID required” (Pretty much in most cases you need to prove who you are in some form when you check in to vote). But if there has been next to no problem, what would they need to do anyway?cincybearcat said:

States are free to implement it and the majority do. The thing is, it doesn’t deter voter fraud, and the bill is federal over-reach.cincybearcat said:I'm honestly surprised you do not have to show proof of ID to vote. Vitalogensia said:If the GOP came out and said, “we understand there are financial and logistical barriers for certain citizens to obtain required identification, and we will put programs in places to help”, then I would feel like they have a good faith effort in the voter ID laws. The fact they don’t mention them, though, is evidence of their intentions IMO.
Agreed. Offer a very cheap or free way for people to easily get what they need, and this would be a lot better. But nope, that wouldn't keep the lower income people from voting. Yes, I do think one should have to prove who they are... so make it possible for everyone. It really isn't that hard, if there is a will to do it.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. This would be all well and good if voter fraud was a problem. For some reason people seem convinced it is one despite evidence to the contrary.0

Oh God get it together. State ID, drivers license or Passport. It's not that hard. You don't have to bring your birth certificate (Jesus Christ). Just like all the fraud going on in Minnesota and now the hospice fraud in California you don't think the voter fraud is real as well? I come to realize most of you have zero street smarts. ...If you do not think there is voter fraud I have a vaccine I want to sell you.Tim Simmons said:Great question. For the most part nothing. You would think, everyone has some sort of id for something, but in the US that is not the case. Because you need birth certificates, social security cards, 2 pieces of mail from a utilities provider or credit card company/bank proving your address, as well as a the time to get the id (if you can’t get the time off during work hours when they are open, they re open for a few on Saturdays). On top of that, they charge you money for it.There’s a good portion of an Americans who don’t have those things or cannot get/afford those things. This also neglects all the micro changes that can happen that affects the things above (passports have their hoops to jump through for its application, people get married and change names so you need a new social security card, people move, etc)
so while it’s doable, it’s a process. The constitution guarantees the right to vote. It explicitly forbids a poll tax, which is charging for the right to vote, which is essentially what needing an id is.On top of all of that, voter fraud is such a statistical insignificant occurrence that if done, is usually caught. All voter id laws set out to do is to prevent people from voting, not protect it.
on top of that this SAVE act doesn’t change any of the currently existing process, all it does is allow poll workers and states a loop hole to deny people the right to vote based on arbitrary circumstances.Post edited by shadowcast on0 -
No people are not struggling to get ID. I'm pretty sure those with no ID have much bigger problems than not having idenification.tempo_n_groove said:

Oh yeah just like there is no fraud in Minnesota and California with the medical system. Common sense goes along way.Tim Simmons said:This would be all well and good if voter fraud was a problem. For some reason people seem convinced it is one despite evidence to the contrary.0 -

Over 80% of Americans support voter ID...It's a no brainer.cincybearcat said:I'm honestly surprised you do not have to show proof of ID to vote. I am pretty aligned with requiring it. That's what they tell you...Remeber they told you the vaccine was safe and effective. Remember WMD's? Look at Israel right not lying about nukes and getting us into this bullshit war. All governments lie...You have to beat them at the polls legally. They will continue to cheat us if we do not pass voter ID...They are rigging the polls.Tim Simmons said:This would be all well and good if voter fraud was a problem.
