Washington has been that way for a long time. It is just more obvious now.

*The following opinion is mine and mine alone and does not represent the views of my family, friends, government and/or my past, present or future employer. US Department of State: 1-888-407-4747.

Sure. Both sides are the same. It’s always been like this. Nothing to see here nor be concerned about. Just same old-same old. Good fucking lord.

If you need any assistance with realizing how fucked up things are and how wrong this take is, I suggest you head on over to the Letter From An American thread. I’m sure denial is a river in Egypt, eh?

Things have been fucked up for a long time. Nothing in Washington surprises me. It has been corrupt for decades. It is a dirty business. Even the good ones line their pockets. Now we have a slumlord president that knows he can do what he wants and that he will answer to the courts years down the road. SCOTUS ruling? Yeah I will just find another statute to tax businesses. 10% on all imports from all countries. Four days after the SCOTUS ruling. He had this in the hopper. There is no denial. Pretend that government is altruistic. It is not.

*The following opinion is mine and mine alone and does not represent the views of my family, friends, government and/or my past, present or future employer. US Department of State: 1-888-407-4747.

Care to point out the fucked-uppedness, level of corruption that equals what we see now and name the “good ones” who line their pockets? What previous administration violated the constitution to this extent or appointed incompetence to this level?
Clinton. Considered a good politician. And a very, very smart man. I have met him several times and have never met another man with the amount of knowledge he has. But he was impeached. Left office with millions he did not have before. Blow jobs in the oval office. And his carpetbagger wife taking in more NY donations. Obama. Got nothing done. He was elected because he was a good speaker. Politicians take care of donors, friends and special interests. Federalist paper No. 10 has come to life. Politicians are a joke and it is all a facade. James Madison got it right.

I don't know that I'd consider Clinton's misgivings on par with the current level of corruption. And I've always said he should have been removed.

And I sure as hell don't consider "getting nothing done" on par with the current kleptocracy / budding dictatorship.

Lipstick on a pig. Different but the same abuse of power. And like it or not, Trump is getting things done although it does skirt the boundaries of legality. Even if you hate everything he is doing. Calling it objectively. He set objectives and is doing something about it. And to be clear, I do not agree with his tactics. I am not a Trump supporter, but I do have some appreciation for a President that is taking action and not waiting around for congress.
A successful career-burglar gets stuff done too. If you think Obama being ineffective is corrupt on par with the billions the Trumps have made over the first two terms, using the FCC to squash descent, ignoring subpoenas, ignoring court rulings, demanding voting rolls to federalize elections, then I guess we're not really at a starting point to even discuss this.

Authoritarianism is absolutely cool now. Here and abroad. We're here because the American people wanted, and still want, this. Yeah, a couple people have buyer's remorse because of their own economic situations, but the love of authoritarianism is strong.

that video of patel drinking that beer and wearing a gold medal was beyond cringe.

imagine any other prior head of the fbi doing something like that. what a disgrace.
I am not sure I really understand the hate here.  I mean, I do not like the guy, but he was invited in and had a good time with the team, which is what they were looking for...I mean should someone in those roles never drink?  Never act silly and have fun?

Just seems weird to be upset about.
an armed man got killed in mar a lago, and the director of the fbi is out being a porty boi.

imagine if comey had done this. or j edgar hoover.
Again, do you expect people to not take any time away from work at all?  I mean what are we doing here.

And just cause the idiots of MAGA would be stupid about it if it was the other way around, does not mean people need to overreact and be stupid about this.
that fucker is working for you and i. he is traveling on our money. he is not solving any crimes. he is in over his head.

you can excuse him all you want. in my opinion it is a very bad look.

this is why we are in the situation we are in. nobody in power is serious about anything.

Keep being ignorant of how it all works in the US. And has worked for decades. You can bash me all you want, but I call it like I see it. I have actually worked in DC. You idealists have no clue.

i apologize that i have just a little higher expectation of the professionalism i expect from men in such positions.
Are you being serious?  So tell me, what jobs are you no longer allowed to have time off....celebrate something...drink a beer...c'mon.  It's just cause you hate the guy.
ask an athletic trainer. they are the ones in charge of the health of the players. they are the first ones there and the last ones to leave. they do not get to celebrate and they are a part of the team. i was one for 20 years before i went into surgical sales. you can't show emotion because it looks biased. you are there to do a job, not be a fucking fanboi.

There's also something akin to "stolen valor" here; or maybe "stolen glory." The administration needs to insert itself into the moments of others. Trump's truly pathetic AI hockey video is another strange version of this. I know White House visits for championship teams have been a thing since at least the 1980s but I don't recall too many government officials in the locker rooms.

Even though the administration probably has 100% support and even worship in that particular locker room, can't they let the people who actually made the moment happen celebrate in that moment? Do they need to insert themselves into the greatness of others because they're not actually making the lives of their constituents better?

By the way, dictatorial regimes have a history of extensive involvement in their countries' international sports programs. Admittedly, my own bias (aka, distaste for this unprofessional group of lowlifes bringing on autocracy) may play into this reaction. That said, I don't remember any other US regime acting this way. I'm not quite outraged but it's a terrible look.
i agree. trump and his administration have to glom on to other peoples' success because they have all been failures that have magically failed upwards to the height of power in this country. they cannot stand to see people have success so they do what they can to help claim credit for it or glom on to others' moments of glory.

Try again. Everyone hired into this administration works for the president now. This is where we are and we're (the greater "we," of course) are content with it.

ACA is not nothing. Legislatively speaking.

Ordered the Bin Laden strike. Not nothing.

with Congress , helped the nation recover, slowly but steadily from 08-09. but yeah did nothing.

I agree with the Bin Laden strike. But he could never get his initiatives passed. Obamacare was a failure. He did create positive energy, but was not a effective lawmaker.
as someone that worked in healthcare until 5 years ago, obamacare was not a failure. stop it with the maga talking point.

if it was so bad, why have the gop not fixed it or replaced it with "something beautiful" at every turn??

either it sucks too bad to be fixed, or the gop is so inept, or better yet, cares so little, that they won't fix it or replace it.

O fucking K! You don’t have a clue and are an idealist if you’ve never worked in DC. How do you know where anyone has worked, or not? Coming from a guy who doesn’t know where ICE’s authority comes from.

that video of patel drinking that beer and wearing a gold medal was beyond cringe.

imagine any other prior head of the fbi doing something like that. what a disgrace.

Try again. Everyone hired into this administration works for the president now. This is where we are and we're (the greater "we," of course) are content with it.
    good point.

Agreed....as someone who has been using the ACA for years and has multiple small business and individual clients that utilize it, it was a great victory.

My family is healthy. I can't imagine the people dealing with the pre-existing condition bullshit prior to the ACA. Not to mention the subsidies (which I don't qualify for).

On its face, yeah who wouldn't.

But also, its a bad look. You run the FBI man. The most you should probably be seen out is at dinner. You run a whole federal agency. have some sort of decorum.

On a deeper dive, you just had the to-do about taking a federal private jet JUST to see your girlfriend perform the national anthem at a sporting event and then it coming out that you did it before for a dinner date.

And going EVEN deeper, your head comms guy tweeted at a reporter calling him and his network a hack and saying that he wasn't in the locker room (NBC's Ken Delanian, its on Twitter) in spite of a video and then having more videos dropping.

also, he's partying like he scored the winning goal. just chill out, you didn't do shit dude.

So while in the grand scheme of things this is nothing and its just something to talk about. its still a bad look and unprofessional and another notch in how toxic this admin is.

The partying...it's a celebration.  The team is having a great time and they were enjoying Patel there and participating.  I think the decorum argument is really weak and annoying.  I am fine with people being themselves, being normal human beings and not politicians all the time.  It's actually refreshing when it's as benign as this was.  I do not find anything unprofessional about it to be honest.
I think its tacky as fuck. You want to be that excited in the stands great. go for it. normal fan behavior. Don't go in the locker room and then celebrate as hard as they did. it looks dumb. (real 'pick me' vibes as the kids say). You may think he has every right to go fucking nuts, I think its cringe. Shake some hands, and have some lively talk because you're happy for them. Don't go wild like you were the one who scored the winning goal (which is what it looks like in the video). Corny as hell.

So where is my national healthcare? Like Canada or Japan? Obamacare failed. Why am I still paying $2000 a month for health insurance? Even after corporate subsidies? If you do not have company sponsored healthcare in the US, you might not receive care. The GOP or the Dems won't fix it because the healthcare and pharma lobby is too strong. Campaign contributions and corporate influence control policy making. Just ask the NRA or the hedge fund owners that pay zero tax. It is a system of special interests, not the well being of the average citizen.

It’s big ‘stolen sports valor’ vibes IMO. To say nothing of its off putting that the head of the FBI is acting like a 21 year old college kid whose team just won the NCAA.
