Trump/Admin Policies

So - having a US government employee at the Olympics...not a big deal. I don't really care about the "private plane" argument in this instance. Now if I were president, I might not have the FBI guy on that trip...but it's not a big deal (to me).Tim Simmons said:On its face, yeah who wouldn't.
But also, its a bad look. You run the FBI man. The most you should probably be seen out is at dinner. You run a whole federal agency. have some sort of decorum.
On a deeper dive, you just had the to-do about taking a federal private jet JUST to see your girlfriend perform the national anthem at a sporting event and then it coming out that you did it before for a dinner date.
And going EVEN deeper, your head comms guy tweeted at a reporter calling him and his network a hack and saying that he wasn't in the locker room (NBC's Ken Delanian, its on Twitter) in spite of a video and then having more videos dropping.
also, he's partying like he scored the winning goal. just chill out, you didn't do shit dude.
So while in the grand scheme of things this is nothing and its just something to talk about. its still a bad look and unprofessional and another notch in how toxic this admin is.
The trips with the girlfiend...sure...dumb. I didn;t see about his head comms guy...just dumb to lie. Just own it.
The partying...it's a celebration. The team is having a great time and they were enjoying Patel there and participating. I think the decorum argument is really weak and annoying. I am fine with people being themselves, being normal human beings and not politicians all the time. It's actually refreshing when it's as benign as this was. I do not find anything unprofessional about it to be honest.hippiemom = goodness0 -
Again, do you expect people to not take any time away from work at all? I mean what are we doing here.gimmesometruth27 said:

imagine any other prior head of the fbi doing something like that. what a disgrace.
Just seems weird to be upset about.
imagine if comey had done this. or j edgar hoover.
And just cause the idiots of MAGA would be stupid about it if it was the other way around, does not mean people need to overreact and be stupid about this.hippiemom = goodness0 -

He’s the 1st FBI director to have joined in a celebration of Gold medal winning team! With this administration there’s always room for more embarrassing behavior from these lackeys. If Canada wins the game there’s Zero chance the director of Canadian intelligence behaves like this idiot did.cincybearcat said:

Now we have a slumlord president that knows he can do what he wants and that he will answer to the courts years down the road. SCOTUS ruling? Yeah I will just find another statute to tax businesses. 10% on all imports from all countries. Four days after the SCOTUS ruling. He had this in the hopper. There is no denial. I'm not personally worried about the "taxpayer dime" stuff, both sides pull that shit (it seems way worse by maga, but still). But yeah, at a certain level, at THIS level, I don't expect people to act like a frat boy. It doesn't matter his political affiliation to me.cincybearcat said:

The distinction here is that he was being billed as being on official business. He wasn't on vacation. Day off? Maybe. But when your trip is official business, and in front of the world to see, not a private vacation where some dipshit took video of you on your private yacht, yeah, it's a problem.
This isn't pretension. This is normal decorum from high ranking officials. It's weird that you're ok with that.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
Clinton. Considered a good politician. And a very, very smart man. I have met him several times and have never met another man with the amount of knowledge he has. But he was impeached. Left office with millions he did not have before. Blow jobs in the oval office. And his carpetbagger wife taking in more NY donations. Obama. Got nothing done. There's also something akin to "stolen valor" here; or maybe "stolen glory." The administration needs to insert itself into the moments of others. Trump's truly pathetic AI hockey video is another strange version of this. I know White House visits for championship teams have been a thing since at least the 1980s but I don't recall too many government officials in the locker rooms.
Even though the administration probably has 100% support and even worship in that particular locker room, can't they let the people who actually made the moment happen celebrate in that moment? Do they need to insert themselves into the greatness of others because they're not actually making the lives of their constituents better?
By the way, dictatorial regimes have a history of extensive involvement in their countries' international sports programs. Admittedly, my own bias (aka, distaste for this unprofessional group of lowlifes bringing on autocracy) may play into this reaction. That said, I don't remember any other US regime acting this way. Obama made money selling books. Once a politician leaves office they are certainly able to rake in money with speaking fees. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree with the Bin Laden strike. But he could never get his initiatives passed. Obamacare was a failure. He did create positive energy, but was not a effective lawmaker.0 -

He was elected because he was a good speaker. Politicians take care of donors, friends and special interests. Federalist paper No. 10 has come to life. Politicians are a joke and it is all a facade. James Madison got it right.Halifax2TheMax said:Get_Right said:Halifax2TheMax said:Get_Right said:Tim Simmons said:I'm constantly blown away that most of the admin is made up of a bunch of weenies who just do stuff because they want to be liked and popular by dweebs on the internet who like energy drinks and anime porn.
Washington has been that way for a long time. It is just more obvious now.*The following opinion is mine and mine alone and does not represent the views of my family, friends, government and/or my past, present or future employer. US Department of State: 1-888-407-4747.
Sure. Both sides are the same. It’s always been like this. Nothing to see here nor be concerned about. Just same old-same old. Good fucking lord.
If you need any assistance with realizing how fucked up things are and how wrong this take is, I suggest you head on over to the Letter From An American thread. I’m sure denial is a river in Egypt, eh?
Things have been fucked up for a long time. Nothing in Washington surprises me. It has been corrupt for decades. It is a dirty business. Even the good ones line their pockets. Pretend that government is altruistic. It is not.*The following opinion is mine and mine alone and does not represent the views of my family, friends, government and/or my past, present or future employer. US Department of State: 1-888-407-4747.
Care to point out the fucked-uppedness, level of corruption that equals what we see now and name the “good ones” who line their pockets? What previous administration violated the constitution to this extent or appointed incompetence to this level?
And I sure as hell don't consider "getting nothing done" on par with the current kleptocracy / budding dictatorship.
Lipstick on a pig. Different but the same abuse of power. And like it or not, Trump is getting things done although it does skirt the boundaries of legality. Even if you hate everything he is doing. Calling it objectively. He set objectives and is doing something about it. And to be clear, I do not agree with his tactics. I am not a Trump supporter, but I do have some appreciation for a President that is taking action and not waiting around for congress.0 -

Given the rot of the GOP he got quite a bit done. Not going to argue about it...just google it.
It might be your opinion that he was a failure but history says otherwise.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

the president isn't supposed to be a lawmaker. He's supposed to be a law upholder. He's supposed to influence policy that his congress makes into law.
Trump is bypassing that. The fact you admire a president who does that is telling.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
We can agree to disagree. FDR's new deal was lawmaking. Presidents can 100% pursue new laws and they should. Even if sponsored by congress or independently. The president can drive the car bringing new law. No doubt Trump is testing the limits of Presidential authority and legality. But he is not sitting on his hands or being apathetic. Even if I disagree with his positions and tactics.HughFreakingDillon said:the president isn't supposed to be a lawmaker. He's supposed to be a law upholder.
