    It's a church, so I really doubt they are trying to make fun of the "myth."
    Whether you believe it or not, doesn't change the details of the story. If you understand the details, it's a stupid analogy that doesn't make sense. They weren't immigrants, they were ordered by the government to return to their homeland for a census. The two cities were not that far apart and ruled under the same king at the time. Saying ICE would have deported them as illegal immigrants for returning to their homeland as ordered by the head of government is just a dumb analogy. 
    I’m not a biblical scholar, but I think you’re probably relying too much on the accuracy of Luke’s gospel, which is a little loose. The church in the photo is probably referring to Matthew and when they fled to Egypt:

    13 Now when they had departed, behold, xan angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. yThis was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, z“Out of Egypt I called my son.”

    Respectfully, I didn’t write they were making fun of it, I questioned if they were trying to make a point. Since you know the details, though, can you tell me what day, month, and year the Bible gives us for Jesus’s birth?  That might help clear up why I view the story as a widely held false belief, aka myth. 
    The Bible doesn’t give an exact day or year, and you probably knew that.
    I didn’t mean to imply you said they were making fun of it, but if an organization went to that extent to make a scene of something they didn’t believe in, I’d take it as mocking. But it’s a church, so they weren’t.
    Believing in it doesn’t change whether it’s a silly analogy or not. I’m just saying how do they compare Jesus to an illegal immigrant? He traveled a short distance to his ancestral town not far away. Maybe everyone doesn’t know all the details, but most people are familiar with the general idea of the story. Why would Jesus have been deported from the kingdom of Judea, the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people? Was Jesus not Jewish enough for the homeland of the Jews? 
    It’s so ironic and silly that it’s actually pretty funny.

    lol no they are saying ICE would grab folks in church if they thought they were there or that ICE would deport Mary baby Jesus and Joseph ! That’s how I’m seeing it still though I like what that church did 
    Thats what I said, they are portraying it that Mary, Jesus and Joseph got deported by ICE. But they were returning to their country of origin as ordered by the government. ICE deporting them isn't a good analogy here.

    They’ve had their necks kneeled on.

    They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear.

    I’ve seen some churches not put out Mary and Joseph until the 3rd Sunday in Advent and then Jesus at the Christmas vigil.
