The more recent bans that I have noticed seemed to relate to people that just trolled. No meaningful info provided, just constant trolling. That's against the rules.DarthMaeglin said:

my guideline is "if i think this post will get me banned, i walk it back." seems to work so far.
It remains astounding to me how many personally demeaning comments are allowed to stand around here, hence my mocking of the “respect” admonishment in the sticky post. The rules are not applied consistently, and the impression of impartiality is blown out of the water when the moderators participate directly in conversations. I always thought they were supposed to remain above the fray, objective. Silly me.
Edit: I won’t be surprised if this post gets me in trouble for being critical of the moderators. I’d love to be wrong about that though.

I have never complained about any post made here. I imagine some people do flag some posts. The moderation here is definitely a lot more strict than any other forum I have been involved in but I have to say that this is the only forum that I participate in now and it is run very well.
I could say a few nasty things right now and I have no doubt that I would get banned. It's fair....deal with it.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

I have no problem with the moderation. I have a good relationship (I think) with the mods even though they’ve had to slap me on the wrist a few times. I understand their role. I also understand that each case is different. Sometimes it’s not even really a punishment, being given a time out. It’s an opportunity to cool down and reflect. Permanent bans are the punishment.I do appreciate, though, that they don’t get hoodwinked into the victimhood that we sometimes see here. I’ve been talked to extremely disrespectfully at times. Some downright nasty and personal. Do I whine about the rules? Nope. Just put that person on ignore and move on.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0

It feels like one answer would be to now just start telling others they have reading comprehension issues or are delusional, a sample of what I’ve been told. And I tried asking politely for the individual to back off of the personal insults several times to no avail (in fact often doubled down, lol).
It’s unfortunate that both sides of the spectrum have entrenched themselves so that there isn’t really much discussion anymore. I know I’ve come across as firm in my own stance, and I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully apparently) to change for some time.
Unfortunately explaining myself at length also tends to get me more grief than it solves."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

I don't think accusing someone of comprehension issues or being delusional is a personal attack. Sometimes all of us say stupid things.
But yeah...the environment is toxic and that generally relates to ridiculous news sources that people use or posting opinion as fact.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

We’re both guilty of saying things in that vein. It got worse when more and more of your posts were just blatant attacks on liberals as a whole, or sarcasm directed at one of my past positions. However, I do recall once explaining to you, out in the open, sometimes I say those things out of my own frustration because of the respect I have for your political knowledge and ability to articulate it better than I can. So, yes, in short, I’ve been a dick at times. And I apologize for that. But the last months it’s just been a lot of sarcastic attacks. (And I get annoyed at the complaining)DarthMaeglin said:

I’ve taken the habit of rereading my posts three or four times before hitting post, especially if/when I can realize I’m hot under the collar, and if there’s anything attacking the person I remove it. It’s difficult to always recognize when one’s emotions are up, admittedly, especially given how passionate so many of us are about the various issues. The passion’s a good thing though, lol.

Yup it's ok to call some racist, misogynistic, etc....but if you respond with a "Fuck off"...a warning or ban you will get. You are supposed to ignore it, or flag it for the mods to do whatever they think is right apparently. I don;t agree with it, but that is their rules.hippiemom = goodness0

I don't think I see a problem with calling someone out for what one sees as racist or misogynistic comments. Oh yeah so easy here. And a difference in calling someone a name/label and saying what they typed seems like a racist comment, etc. But anyhow, I perfectly fine with telling someone to F off when they are bringing in a fake argument something else to a discussion. But the mods here aren't. But they are fine with people calling others those labels, and I'm not. But it's not my board.HughFreakingDillon said:
