This is not a sign of the end of PJ. In fact, the opposite. Why announce you’re leaving if the band has no plans? Seems more like they want to do something that Matt wasn’t up for. New tour, recording, something.
Setting Sun has nothing to do with this. Remember when they broke up after Parting Ways? Me neither.
Ed wasn’t saying goodbye this last tour. He always makes weird comments like “I don’t know when or if we’ll make it back here again.” Listen to the bootlegs. While I imagine they’ve known for a while, I doubt anything they said was referencing this.
Matt has been an important part of PJ for a very long time. He will be deeply missed and we’ve all enjoyed his presence. However, PJ will continue to thrive. Without taking anything away from Matt, he’s about the only member they can continue without. Their most successful albums are before he joined. Most fan’s favorite albums are before he joined. They can and will make great music without him. Matt era PJ will probably be remembered as the best chapter, but they will still make great live music.

This puts Hunger Strike from Pitt 2 in an entirely different perspective. I am truly, profoundly grateful to have been there for it, and the news has definitely cemented that performance's place among the top of the 799 total songs I've apparently seen the band play. (Black with Peter Frampton in Nashville and Release to close out Ten in Philly are also up there.)

So here they are at this point again of bringing in a new drummer 😕 so next possible live shows with said drummer won’t be happening for at least 2 years? What does everyone think
It might be that long regardless, but I think there is plenty of lead time for whatever option they select to get up to speed some time in 2026.

I love a good temu reference. Anytime something breaks or falls apart in our house I ask my wife if she bought it on Temu.
