Not trying to rain on the Brad Wilk possibility parade.  Dig him and think it would be cool especially given connection with Ed/Indian Style and just liking RATM.  But I was reminded of this article where he speaks about his previous PJ audition and not clicking with Jeff musically.

Not to mention that he's spoken about how hard it is to tour as a type-1 diabetic. Maybe it would be easier given how light PJ's tour schedule tends to be in relation to other bands, but still seems like it would diminish the odds of him being the band's next drummer.

When I think of Pearl Jam in my head… Matt Dameron will always be the drummer.

MFC's legacy in Pearl Jam will always be massive - the longest tenure with the band as a drummer and most likely it will always remain that way

Sad day for us fans, but I have to imagine it's a happy one for Matt Cameron and his family.

Eddie, Stone, Mike or Jeff leaving would 100% be the end of the band... However with Matt, it feels like there's a narrow window If they can bring in Kruzen or Irons... It would be a return to an existing version of the band. It's hard to imagine someone coming in from outside.

I dream of PJ doing acoustic tours.  It might be good for the whole band physically and would reduce comparisons between Matt and the new drummer.  Might also reduce some of the "bro" vibe that has ruined so many PJ shows for me the last few years.

I know Matt is a beast but not sure why people think it would take a new guy 2 years to learn the songs if you are a professional who knows what they are doing unlike the people mentioned.
Yeah Matt himself learned all the songs in only a few weeks back in '98. Of course, the band only had five albums at that point.
Potential new drummer doesn't even have to learn the whole catalogue, like Matt did before the '98 North American tour. Legacy era Pearl Jam is selecting one-offs from most of the albums in these days. New drummer will learn the most-played staples, whatever new music they decide to tour in support of, and whatever deep cuts they think they might feature on the tour. Yes, that's a lot of songs, but with they way PJ tours these days, there will be plenty of time to get up to speed and learn deep cuts on the fly if need be.

My original prediction was "late 2026 if things move fast" and I think we're still on time for that.

Just because it's a surprise to us doesn't mean Matt woke up on Friday or Saturday with the "I'm done" feeling. The band knew.

A year or so (from hire date to first show) is plenty of time to learn the deep stuff like Wash, Undone, U, etc.

Did one of the posts have a "more to come" line on the end of it. Swear I saw it this morning but looking over the PJ post, email and Matt's social media, can't find it. Either way, odd timing - being so close to a round number of 30 years.

    More to follow.

Also, if anyone is a Soundgarden fan, there's something cooking in Seattle for the weekend of July 18-20th.

I don't have all the details, but Chris Cornell's  birthday will be a focal point.

    Stay frosty, people!😎
