Great Beato
episode! I could have watched a 3 hour version of this and it still wouldn’t
have felt long at all. To the person complaining about old stories, there were
actually some new ones that I hadn’t heard before, so it’s well worth it (like
when Mike said he didn’t want to do a show on the first week for MLB record
contract purposes). Love all the positivity and excitement to still be in a
band. Also nice to see Jeff set Billy Corgan straight.

We talk about the next album a lot,” Ament said. “We ask ourselves, ‘How can we do something that will really surprise us?’ One of the ideas on the table is using an eight-track, assigning each of us a track. It’d be a way to get back to a more raw, direct, spontaneous sound.” The goal is to let chemistry and creative freedom lead the way, without any restrictions.
i wish i wish i wish i wish, i guess it never stops
I never get tired of hearing the lore over and over again. I love the energy and awe about how it all came together and how grateful they all feel to be doing this together.
More of the same 90's stories???? Glad I can skip this. Geez.
I haven't finished the episode, but that part was the first 22-(23?) minutes (unless they go back to it later).
I thought the same thing during that portion...can we hear about post 1998? lol
There may be some gems in that ~23 min that some didn't know already, so maybe it's worthwhile. 🤷♂️

I don't think Beato is the dude to get off the hits and the first years. Did you see his "what makes this song great"-series, it didn't really stray off the beaten path.
I think they should sit down with Billy Corgan if "inside" stories is the thing, or someone like Marc Maron who might come with some "Dude! I remember when you guys bla bla bla. What was that all about?" or whatever.

Jeff has so much energy in this interview. He seems really excited about where they were and where they are now. Yes, we knew some of the stories, but it was only an hour interview, and they did talk about Last Exit and Leash along with Jeremy and Yellow Ledbetter. There were some interesting tidbits though we haven't heard. I've always been more interested in the inner workings of the recording sessions. If there was anyone that could bring that out it would be Rick, but only so much time.
Corgan sucks as an interviewer. Tried to watch his Wolfgang Van Halen interview and 75% of it was Billy telling Wolf about his dad. Such a wasted opportunity. He’s way too self involved to be an interviewer.

I find Corgan to be pretentious and condescending. That is not new.

To be fair, this isn't an interview just for Pearl Jam fans. This is an interview for music fans, most of whom may not know the backstories we do as long-time fans of the band. I still enjoyed it immensely.

It's was so cool when Mike broke down some of his parts in a song and then just casually pealed off a few of his classic riffs. That leads me to appreciate his playing even more!
It was also interesting that Beato asked Mike if he thought Mike and Stone could play each others parts on their songs. Mike's reaction was interesting and funny. Kind of like, "Ah, no, our styles are so different, I don't think so." That really illustrated how their two styles work together to add depth to the songs. I love hearing about that kind of thing.

Yeah, I find his new Podcast tough to listen to as he interrupts the guest to make his voice heard. I don't know how I could be friends with someone who always wants to tell me how good they are. I love that Jeff called him out, too, because the podcast was recent. I want to say Tom Morrello, but I take everything Billy Boy says with a grain of salt.

In reading that Jeff doesn't like to revisit the past (not sure of all the sources on that), it seemed as if he really enjoyed talking about their history.❤️

every time its repeated, theres just a little more color to it so it never feels old.
Some of Beato's schtick I don't love so i generally avoid his videos, but it was a very good interview. As fan oriented as you can get without tipping over to a Chris Farley Show homage.
My main takeaway is how much the band genuinely loves being together and playing.
I would imagine that if we were super fans of the other artists that Rick interviews, we'd recognize a lot of the stories in those interviews as well. I just have this feeling that PJ might not be as technical or gear obsessed as other artists that Rick talks to, so the questions are more surface level than like a Sting or Lukather.
