Yeah, I don't get it. I live in a rural area in Southern Illinois and I can verify that MANY families here receive WIC, SNAP and other government food assistance. When the cuts happen, people here will realize that they have shot themselves in the foot, just to save a little money on the price of eggs.Halifax2TheMax said:So, tell me again what economic plan POOTWH and Bernie had that’ll help the “working middle class.” Hilarious that they fell for it. Notably, Trump has said he will appoint Musk to head a new government efficiency commission, and Musk has vowed to cut “at least $2 trillion” from the federal budget. Such cuts would decimate government services, including food programs and Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Supplemental nutrition programs disproportionately benefit rural areas, and Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are used much more heavily in counties that support Trump than those that don’t.
That will be a hard circle to square.
So will Trump’s promise to lower consumer costs while also putting tariffs of 10% to 20% on all foreign imports and of 60% on imports from China. Tariffs are borne by consumers, so by definition they will drive prices up. These two promises cannot be reconciled.
I keep hearing that people voted for trump on policy and / or the economy, but I have yet to hear what those policies are or what his plan for the economy is beyond tariffs which experts say are only going to make things worse.Approximately 20% of American adults are functionally illiterate (that’s close to 60 million people). Over half of those who can read, read at a sixth grade level or lower. When you’re options to educated yourself are limited, getting your info from simple to read, facebook memes makes sense. This is what America wants. Americans want a president who's going to make funny speeches and piss people off. They don't want boring, they want drama. They want to be entertained, they want Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. It's going to be funny when RFK and Elon get involved. People will be so owned, it's going to be awesome.

Yeah we'll see. Trump has never shown an inclination to offset any spending or tax breaks with corresponding reduced spending. I'm not thinking it's going to happen now.JeBurkhardt said:
Yeah, I don't get it. I live in a rural area in Southern Illinois and I can verify that MANY families here receive WIC, SNAP and other government food assistance. Over half of the students in our county are eligible for free or reduced lunches. In a county of 15K residents, nearly 5K of them are enrolled in Medicaid. Trump got 76% of the vote in the county.
These two promises cannot be reconciled.0 -
the R's controlling all 3 branches could be the best thing that ever happened to the democrats. shitty for the american people, likely, but good for the party. they better have someone groomed by the time it's time to swoop in and put the final nail in. Assuming we even have elections (I know, I know), I really hope the meanness and ineptitude the Dream Team has, along with their absolute disinterest in regular people will resonate with some people who were duped into thinking that Biden ruined the economy. I also hope that "shitty for the American people" doesn't get as out of hand as I think it could. Elon and Trump appear to be co-presidents elect and Elon is the rich guy that never noticed the help. He's heartless and it's got the potential to be ugly. Right now their followers are super pumped at the prospect of firing a million federal employees on Day 1. They might be surprised to find out that the beneficiaries are going to be in the top 0.01% and the only benefit they'll get is whatever enjoyment the suffering of others brings them.HughFreakingDillon said:the R's controlling all 3 branches could be the best thing that ever happened to the democrats. shitty for the american people, likely, but good for the party. they better have someone groomed by the time it's time to swoop in and put the final nail in. Also, I know I am a pessimist but even the biggest optimist has to understand that the next people live through a balanced federal court system haven't even been born yet. The best hope for people in these situations is that Trump doesn't actually do some of the bordering on draconian things that we're talking about. Much of this didn't happen last time...but he's surrounded himself with even less serious people that have even less sense of how to govern than last time (which is an amazing feat in and of itself). But that's where we are; we need a bunch of people with an elite combination of heartlessness and stupidity to come to their senses and look out for the people that voted for them (and those that did not).1995 Milwaukee 1998 Alpine, Alpine 2003 Albany, Boston, Boston, Boston 2004 Boston, Boston 2006 Hartford, St. Paul (Petty), St. Paul (Petty) 2011 Alpine, Alpine 2013 Wrigley 2014 St. Paul 2016 Fenway, Fenway, Wrigley, Wrigley 2018 Missoula, Wrigley, Wrigley 2021 Asbury Park 2022 St Louis 2023 Austin, Austin 2024 Napa, Wrigley, Wrigley 2025 Nashville (II)0 -

Right. I’ve thought about this. Does this become the Putin and the oligarchs situation. When Putin came to power he gathered up the oligarchs and made them a deal. Turn over half of what you have now and will have to me, and you can do as you please. Don’t, and you’ll be dead and everything you have will be mine.
