I am not going to London and I would not camp out either way but people will. They have in the past in worse locations.
The area of Oakland along Hegenberger Road (which, incidentally, I traversed on foot four times for Pearl Jam shows in '22 and another twelve times for Mets-A's games at the Coliseum later in '22 and in '23 with no fear and no incident) not far from the arena and stadium has property crime issues, but that's not where people camp out for the shows. The most dangerous part of walking that stretch is watching for cars speeding off the exit ramp from the freeway.
Similarly, I walked nearly a mile to and from my car parked on the street in Inglewood before and after both shows in '22 and '24 without so much as an unfriendly look.
Similarly, I went to the Pearl Jam shows in Oakland in 2022. I stayed at an airport hotel and walked the two miles to and from the arena. My experience made me comfortable to do the same thing again in September 2022 and April 2023 for the A's-Mets series. Again, that particular stretch has serious property crime issues. I wouldn't have parked my car there. But I had no concerns that someone was going to jump me. And, again, people camping out would be over by the Coliseum in a large group.
Bear in mind that I grew up in New York City and rode the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan for over an hour each way every day to get to school through the late '80s/early '90s peak of crime in American cities. I have a pretty good sense of when things are truly unsafe and how to avoid dangerous interactions.
And one thing I know for sure about London compared to any American city: there are a lot fewer guns.
Also you might think they are safe. Sure. Great. You may want to talk to the people that stayed in line for Oakland overnight though.0 -

Worth the wait for a chance at a nod, pick shower, tambo setlist and whatever else they may throw at you!
Have fun all and post some pictures for this armchair warrior.0 -

Surely the park closes overnight and would just throw you out if you start pitching a tent or queuing up two nights before. And how do you wash? And what do you do for two days?[Edit: noticed some of this is answered in another thread, nevermind]I probably have too many questions, maybe we will discuss in person some time, Rob!
I’ve got as close as 2nd row one time back in 2006 in front of Mike, but probably queued from about 11am on the day, I know I went on a boat excursion before queuing (this was in Marseille) so can’t have queued that early. I was allowed a song or two on the rail too thanks to the people we were with. Times have clearly changed.Post edited by Planet of Sound on0 -

An obsession as you say Rob.0 -
It is elitist and causes so much aggro. I wish it was back to the old days. Before these people discovered pj and the whoring for a wave or a tambo

I know some of you think camping out is ridiculous. However, I find it to be really fun. Yes, part of my reason is to get up as close as possible. I have been lucky to get rail several times and it is an awesome experience if you haven’t done it. But I also have gotten 2nd or 3rd row after camping out and have had just as much fun. However, for me sometimes camping out just becomes part of the whole concert experience. When I travel to show I often go alone and i really enjoy the social aspect of camping out. I start out in the line alone and end up with a whole new group of friends to have fun at the show with. Some of my now closest PJ friends I met camping out in the GA line. I have plans to meet several of them for various shows and no longer feel alone at the shows - even if I am going alone. I would have never have had these experiences if I just walked in right before show time. So, just wanted to share some of my reasons. Others here may do it for the same reason. That being said, I have yet to camp out two days in advance and likely will not do that.0

The thing is if one person camped out. It's not a thing and 2 or 3 days now are not spent in horrible conditions. But because one person does 2 people do and so on and so on. I think 1 day is social and ok but I truly wish it was just a lottery and be done with the one upmanship and get there 1 day 2 days 3 days earlier because fear of missing out.

I would never personally camp out in line. But I have zero issue with anyone that wants to do it as long as they’re polite and respectful of their fellow fans. People camping out has no impact on my concert going experience. 100% lottery is the way to go. Open it up just to 10C initial winners and not fan to fan.
Have it tied to the winners name and a plus 1 and those that want to be put in the lottery can.If the person sells their ticket on fan to fan it no longer can be put in the lotto. Also you can’t gift or sell the ticket to someone else you have to be there to get the bracelet.0
