Waiting For Stevie

Scoff at reviews and articles saying songs are akin to Ten era or echo Breath and State of Love and Trust because then people just expect to hear those songs. But what I will say is I get it…the riff at opening, crunch in the guitar tone reminds me of PJ sounds. This is a great modern rock / PJ song and there are only so many of those these days !Mansfield 6/30/08

This song stands amongst the very best of their entire catalog. A classic. I'm so fucking happy that Stevie Wonder was late that day.0

Got to this one this morning on the way to work and CRIED. As in almost choking wept and it just grabbed me. It's been a pretty emotional week and so I think maybe that was part of it, but it just really resonated. Loving this new album!0

Me too! It's wild... usually stuff that's a bit more sentimental, mellow, sad sounding are what gets me emotional, and rarely at that-- but the opening riff of this song just makes me well up with... I don't even know? Joy? Nostalgia? I'm so happy for the band and all of the fans. What a dayCaroG87 said:Got to this one this morning on the way to work and CRIED. This song is awesome. It gives off an Oasis vibe, especially at the beginning...0

Haven't had a real chance to listen to the album yet. Wasn't going to stay up until almost 1 AM last night. Got to hear most of it in the car on the way to work.
I'm really liking it. But have the same thoughts I had after the theater. This song doesn't stand out to me. It's good, I like it, but it's not an instant favorite and doesn't stand out above the rest. Maybe that'll change when I get to listen to it with better speakers.0 -
Loving Mike's solo at the end. That octave run is amazing!I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

I'm going to refer to this song as Waiting for McCready. Holy fuck! I can't wait to see it live."A smart monkey doesn't monkey around with another monkey's monkey" - Darwin's Theory0

That little interlude at the end is brilliant too'F*** the pessimists. F*** 'em.' Eddie Vedder0

I had that same attitude after the theater....I was surprised so many were talking about it because I didn't walk away with it as a standout.mace1229 said:Haven't had a real chance to listen to the album yet. The wall of sound guitar reminds me of Rocket by Smashing Pumpkins. This song is a classic in every respect.Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river0

Yes! I hear so much in this one. In Hiding, the opening of The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary, Soundgarden/TOTD. While I don't think it sounds like SOLAT or Breath, I see how it is being likened to them. I just think it is more accurate to liken it to Singles era PJ. Parts/notes of the outro solo have that feel.lastexitlondon said:Anyone else here Soundgarden. Badmotorfinger era riff
Then other parts of the album are so clearly Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, U2, Hendrix, and then all 11 other PJ albums thrown into a blender. A couple of notes here or there or the inflection of a few words.
It really sounded like a reworking of In Hiding to me (which is great!).

I don't hear Ten or Vs at all. Maybe it reminds me most of Yield.
