    Scared of Fear
If there is a song that is as good as 'whoever said' on the new album. That will be a win for me. Best song they've recorded in the past 22 years in my opinion.

    2. Scared of Fear

I love Who Ever Said. Great song. Only heard DM once, but I feel like the first two are in the running to be as good or better than Who Ever Said.

Wreckage was so epic with Atmos. Looking forward to that with headphones. First five for me are all great. Only two that felt meh for me were Upper Hand and Something Special. That buildup in Upper Hand I thought was going to explode into something. Guess it created expectations.

Waiting for Stevie was my stand out as well. I definitely hear some old pj formula in there. Love it!
First impression is that the album is really solid!

  • Waiting For Stevie
I hate to say it, but this is the first time in 32 years a PJ album has thoroughly disappointed me. The first album where I never once felt that euphoric thrill that every other album has at least somewhere. Nothing came remotely close to the likes of a RVM, Present Tense, Corduroy — or even an Unthought Known or Quick Escape. And that's to say nothing of the weakest set of lyrics of Ed's whole career. Riddled with cringy cliches and very little depth. You can really tell he wrote them on the fly on the studio.
After 2 cinema listens, Waiting for Stevie is the standout track, but even that doesn't measure up to what I'd expect from PJ. On the whole, the album left me flat — and even kinda bored. Never thought of say any of this about a PJ album.
Hoping i get a different perspective when i hear it properly on headphones. But for now, really disappointed. Sorry.

Sounds like you got reaalllly psyched up, imagined what it would be like, and then heard something different (only because you lumped in Quick Escape with Present Tense, etc.) Cheer up mate, it's only music!

I’m sorry you feel that way. I personally LOVE IT. Can’t wait for the live shows.

    Upper Hand
Wow, blown away. Best album since Yield. Yes, I said it.  Upper Hand into Waiting For Stevie might be the best 1-2 combo I’ve heard in 20 years.

Just got back from the theater...I am really having a hard time deciding my favorite.  Honestly, I could choose any of them.  Hearing Upper Hand with that sound and the visualizer was amazing.  Waiting for Stevie...Scared of Fear...seriously, I cant decide.

Legit, I have not been this excited on first listen since Riot Act, and I love Avocado and the ones that followed too.

Upper Hand was incredible. Waiting for Stevie was a close second for me followed by Scared of Fear and Dark Matter.

I love WES and many songs on this album are better from what i just heard, but Ed's lyrics on WES are hard to match IMHO.
    It's a hopeless situation...
