    Waiting For Stevie
I hate to say it, but this is the first time in 32 years a PJ album has thoroughly disappointed me. The first album where I never once felt that euphoric thrill that every other album has at least somewhere. Nothing came remotely close to the likes of a RVM, Present Tense, Corduroy — or even an Unthought Known or Quick Escape. And that's to say nothing of the weakest set of lyrics of Ed's whole career. Riddled with cringy cliches and very little depth. You can really tell he wrote them on the fly on the studio.
After 2 cinema listens, Waiting for Stevie is the standout track, but even that doesn't measure up to what I'd expect from PJ. On the whole, the album left me flat — and even kinda bored. Never thought of say any of this about a PJ album.
Hoping i get a different perspective when i hear it properly on headphones. But for now, really disappointed. Sorry.

Sounds like you got reaalllly psyched up, imagined what it would be like, and then heard something different (only because you lumped in Quick Escape with Present Tense, etc.) Cheer up mate, it's only music!

Wow, blown away. Best album since Yield. Yes, I said it.  Upper Hand into Waiting For Stevie might be the best 1-2 combo I’ve heard in 20 years.

Just got back from the theater...I am really having a hard time deciding my favorite.  Honestly, I could choose any of them.  Hearing Upper Hand with that sound and the visualizer was amazing.  Waiting for Stevie...Scared of Fear...seriously, I cant decide.

Legit, I have not been this excited on first listen since Riot Act, and I love Avocado and the ones that followed too.

Upper Hand was incredible. Waiting for Stevie was a close second for me followed by Scared of Fear and Dark Matter.

If there is a song that is as good as 'whoever said' on the new album. That will be a win for me. Best song they've recorded in the past 22 years in my opinion.
I love WES and many songs on this album are better from what i just heard, but Ed's lyrics on WES are hard to match IMHO.
    It's a hopeless situation...

    Scared of Fear
Upper Hand was somewhat disappointing for me.  The first minute is epic and you feel you’re about to enter this triumphant and incredible journey.  It had so much potential.  I expected the song to build back up at some point similar to Inside Job.

But after the intro, the song suddenly crashes and kinda dies into this just ok ballad.  Just my opinion.

    I was underwhelmed by:
Upper Hand - Had some cool sounds but didnt feel like one cohesive song and melody didnt hook me.
Waiting For Stevie - Had high hopes based on reactions but didnt do much, felt like the same chord progression throughout, wonder if its more the effects on the guitar that had people think its like from 10.
Setting Sun - Didnt love the vocal delivery or the main guitar riff, was hoping for more from the ending.

Having said all that, in a few more listens Im sure I will love them!

But what do I know, I didnt love Life Wasted or Severed Hand when I first heard them in 2006.

    Waiting For Stevie
Picking one is like choosing a favourite child.

I honestly loved every song that I heard. Some
more than others, however this album, in my opinion is chock block full of great tunes. I love Running but how it was chosen above 6 or 7 others as a single is beyond me. But then again it doesn’t surprise me as PJ have never been the type of band to release their best tunes to the wider music community…not to radio anyway.

Can’t wait for the official release

I'm not sure how I can declare which song is best after two listens, especially when the poll excludes the one song that I've listened to enough to know that I really love it.
