It was my 4th time seeing the band, 1st of 4 on this tour. definitly one of the best shows. hard to compare with Mansfield 3 -2003. we got spoiled at that show and makes it hard to judge how good others are.
Footsteps, porch, wma, sad, red mosquito and glorified g were highlights.
given to fly and betterman also deserve nods."Some people think it makes a difference...I think it's the difference that makes it"

I thought the center middle section was great! Very alive. We were in row 14 of the center section and I don't think the five people on either side of us stopped jumping the whole time. It still hurts to walk today.0

Great job by everyone up front. I think if the band can sense the energy from the folks on the floor, they're likely to reciprocate.pieceofdust wrote:I thought the center middle section was great! So I've been an uberfan for 10 years, but never have seen them live. I've heard and watched tons of boot concerts, but never gotten a chance to see them live. I came down from Charlotte to see them and what a first show! I was in section 104, the seats where great. I could see everything. I also took my husband it was his first show. Im still a little dazed. Never have I experinced anything like it. The combo of the band being absolutely on fire and the crowd being SO into it was overwhelming. The set list was obviously unreal, and I couldn't ask for anything more. Indifference and Alive with the lights on was great, RM is always awesome, Footsteps was great and EW made me cry. The crowd around me was really into it, alot of them didn't sing along to the deeper cuts, but they all had great energy, and never booed or heckled during the limited political commentary. All in all it makes me want to quit my job and trail them around the country, but since thats not possible I hope they make good on their promise to be back in a year or two. Thanks to the boys for playing their hearts out and making it an experince I will never forget!0

The show here in Columbia was truly magical. Although there were 11,000 fans it felt very intimate and special. The crowd was enthusiastic and very loud. The band was very tight and ROCKED!
 Some random show notes:
 * Ed was taken aback by spontaneous acts of participation from the crowd (chants of "HEY! HEY! HEY!", etc).
 * Mike was a madman throughout the show. Lots of jumping and singing and he played like a man possessed.
 * Right before "No More", Eddie was on stage alone and the crowd started chanting "ED-DIE, ED-DIE, ED-DIE". He then cautioned the crowd and said something like, "Most people would hear that and instantly become an asshole!".
 * Ed was very emotional throughout the night. He was almost desperate to connect with as many people as possible. He even singled someone out and threw him/her his harmonica when he was finished with it during "Footsteps". And, of course, there was plenty of wine sharing.
 * Ed was struggling with the tuning of his guitars. He got frustrated at his guitar tech but then told the crowd the perhaps it was himself and not the instrument. However, at the end of "Present Tense" he was playing some high notes and it did sound pretty out of tune. I thought, "Uh oh, he might lose it." Sure enough he quit playing and started ripping the strings off. Except for these frustrating incidents he was in a very good mood.
 * Two guys behind me spilled beer all over my back but they were having so much fun it didn't actually bother me in the least (they were happy drunks, not butthole drunks).
 * The entire show was one big highlight. The set list was perfect and I wouldn't have changed a thing (if I actually had any right to do so in the first place).
 * This was the first time the band played in Columbia and Eddie said they will come back in a year or two.
Thank you Pearl Jam for an amazing show and thank you to an awesome Columbia crowd for your enthusiasm and participation! (Especially on a Monday night in a college town during the Summer.)0

I was a Pearl Jam virgin the morning of June 16th. The morning of June 17th, I slipped on my “trophy T” for the trip home…a feeble attempt at silently bragging about what I had been up to the night before.
Our tickets were 10 Club, 4th row Center. Not yet being a SuperFan…my sister told me about three times, “That’s Mike….Miiiiike McCreeeeeady” I think she was sick of me calling him “Blondie.” So – Blondie is a maniac and he was directly in front of me for the majority of the show. That kid was all over his corner of the stage, making eye contact with multiple people…me being one of them. At one point, I was listening…watching…watching him play, watching him stare at me…….I thought. He stayed right where he was, for 10 seconds or so…playing, standing, staring…so, I leaned over to my sister and screamed, “Is he looking at us? I swear…I think he’s looking at us!” So – I looked back at him…he was still there staring…standing…playing…and I started laughing because he is a bit insane acting. He smiled, nodded quick, and moved on to someone else. Amazing – Uhhhhhh-mazing. Not at his ability to stare…but at his love of the band’s fans and his obvious love of the game. AND – that wasn’t the only time that happened. He is hilarious and immensely talented…and loves to play with the crowd and stare people down…and throw picks and clothes…and point at people and mumble stuff…and smile at me.
Later, I got pegged in the head with Ament’s guitar pick. My sister saw it head towards me and immediately started patting me down like I was on fire. “WHERE IS IT?” I didn’t know what the world she was talking about. ..or what it was that hit me. “Jeff’s pick hit you in the HEAD! Is it in your hair? WHERE IS IT?” I stood there, flipping my dress around…shaking everything to get that pick to fall from wherever it was…with no luck. She’s been to dozens of shows around the world and has no pick to prove it. Poor thing.
Lucky for us, when we got back to the hotel, one shake of my purse had that pick appear on the bed. It’s hers now and she didn’t say no when I gave it to her. My memory, her well deserved pick.
I can’t sing along for very long, but I could tell the fan favorites when I would look at my sister. At the start some songs, she would jump and scream, and beam……wedding day beam….…and I stopped asking after awhile, “They don’t play this a lot, do they?”
She filled me in on the drive home about the temperament of the band at shows and how this show was different and how Eddie was playing with the crowd and how you could tell the band was having a “big time”... as they say down South.
 Brilliant show.
I love this band. I love my trophy-T…and I don’t even mind, too much, the ringing in my left ear. However…can anyone enlighten as to when it will stop?0

The lower section fans were rocking and the floor looked insane - we displayed that same emotion on the upper lever to the dismay to those around us. Love PJ - Cant wait for the bootleg as the set list was very good, just hard to follow up two days after the Roo show.
What the fuck does that have to do with being in the south? I've been to hundreds of shows throughout the south and everyone I've been to everyone was standing. And from the floor looked like everyone in the rafters was rocking out as well. I've never been to Columbia before but the crowd was awesome. I'm used to Atlanta crowds, which are some of the best music crowds not in Europe, and Columbia impressed me.
As for the set, it was insane. The bands was so good Monday night and I loved that they played three Lost Dog tracks. They also did an awesome job of mixing up the set from different records. The only record that was somewhat left out was Binaural. Lots of stuff from No Code and Riot Act which I appreciated as well as Education, All Night, and Sad off of Lost Dogs. I finally got to hear Footsteps which was another treat. All in all a great show.
Also I want to hear someone from the North bitch about Pearl Jam not being able to see tickets in the south again. Tampa and Columbia were sold to the rafters. And Columbia is a small town and they packed a 18,000 seat basketball arena(at least thats' what the arena's website said. It felt smaller than that and people were packed right on top of each other which was weird for a new modern arena.)
My only gripe about the show was that the Colonial Center staff was clearly not ready to handle that type of crowd. They ran out of beer before Pearl Jam even went on the stage. I had to stand in line for over 30 minutes and then they ran out of beer. It was terrible. The ushers were idiots as well. They were basically useless and the floor had people that were not supposed to be down there as it was so crowded that you could not move. But the show was still awesome.0

 Great pics - thanks!
I loved how Eddie would occasionally hang out in one of the front corners of the stage and watch the band jam. I guess he's a fan like the rest of us...0

Thanks for the pics. I still haven't come down from the concert the other night. Columbia was feelin it. I just hope they don't wait another 10 years before they come back. Best damn concert I've evr been too. I had good seats but my musician buddies that were with me were bitchin about acoustics and not feelin the base. Whatever...I didn't sit down from start to finish. Wish I could go back and relive that night again so these pics will help. I wish I had the cash to go to Madison Square Garden....lucky SOB's. So glad I found this site!0

This is my first post, so be kind to me...
I am just now coming off my "high" from the Columbia show. It was AWESOME!!! Something really grand is going to have to happen in my life (SOON), so that I don't totally crash and burn! Any suggestions on how to come down slowly? LOL Any suggestions on how to come down slowly? LOL
Monday was my 1st ever Pearl Jam concert, and from what I have read and what I experienced, it was one HELL of a show! A good one to be the first!!! I have no idea why it has taken me 12 years to get my arse to a show--maybe I was waiting for this one!?!
Thanks to all the great 102 section fans! I am obsessively trying to figure out which show I can still make this year!
The set list was incredible--I heard songs from when I first fell into PJ, and some that I haven't heard in a while! The energy of the crowd was fabulous--we got some great videos on our digital camera of "Better Man" and "Alive" and the crowd sang louder than Eddie!
I was "ill" last year, so finally seeing Pearl Jam live was on my "list" of things to get done! I am hooked, and hoping to catch (at least!!!) the next 10 years of tours!I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.
