The "leak" outside the back door of the listening party is obviously band approved, right?

I mean, it's just a viral marketing initiative to get us all excited, right?  Otherwise, why wouldn't it have been pulled.  Don't get me wrong - I don't care who did it or why it's still available.  I've listened to it 20 times.  I think it's great!  But it's gotta be on purpose...

They might as well release the album now so that instead of people complaining and fighting about not having access to it, they can start complaining and fighting about how much it sucks. Might as well officially release the tour dates too so the complaining and fighting can start for that.

I stood next to a partially opened door and listened to Eddie’s sound check during his solo 2008 tour until security kicked me out.

    Why would it “come down”?

It’s not the tracks themselves. It’s a back alley through the door recording. I’m not sure

1- they think they could prevent this from spreading or

2 - would have any legal basis to issue a cease and desist

I’ve actually thought the same thing.  Like they go through all this secrecy and security but no one’s watching the back door?  And the video is neatly cut into small snippets for each song.  If the poster was back there the whole time then they probably recorded the whole thing.  Why edit it down and not just post the whole thing?

Its hard to believe that a new album, an album Ed is calling their best work, would be leaked in a low quality audio for fans to partially hear. Surely that's a stretch and they would far rather it be heard in all its glory?

I cant help but think that in the modern age this is something that is really unlikely, and would be more plausible perhaps in 1981

No chance this was intentional on the part of the band. They really like to keep things under wraps. But I’m surprised the video hasn’t been pulled yet.

    I'm on team genuine:

    It's a recording in public.

the snippets are short, seems intentional to avoid licensing issues.

Has too many other randomly posted live shows around LA to come across as a plant.

  • It's short badly sounding parts of songs. Just doing the hype a service I imagine they are thinking.

It's not someone stealing the link to the album or a song and uploading it in pristine quality X weeks/months before release.

There's another version of the "leak" where someone is giving their thoughts on the songs and that was pulled off the internet.  So why would this one still be available?

That's what makes it viral, the low quality nature of it.  Before Avacado came out, they released like a three second clip of WWS on the radio.  I recorded it and listened to it constantly!  They certainly understand the buzz something like this would cause.  I could be dead wrong but I hope I'm right.  I actually think, from a marketing standpoint, it's a great idea.

The low quality is definitely a selling point, there’s just enough there to let people hear what they want to without actually giving too much away. I’m not sure 15 second snippets would really tell us the shape of the album even if they were pristine sound quality.

I don't think it was an intentional leak, but given the quality, I could see them being aware of it but liking that it is generating buzz.
