Yeah, I might be conflating the two with some of my thoughts. It is a little bit different then the usual slacking though. Now I need to quit slacking and get back to work.😊

It sounds like not being happy where you are. Like how would a fireman do it. The job is to put out fires. So after that how can they do or not extra

Right. Everyone’s situation is different. Those are good questions that I ask myself often. I guess at the end of the day everyone has to do what’s best for them. I prolly sound a lot more negative about work than it really is. I know maybe putting a little more care into my job has served me well. Every work environment is different though, what applies here ain’t necessarily going to apply there.

Yeah im trying to think what job this actually applies to. Not a chef or ambulance person. Or doctor . Only maybe an office job. But even then. What extra could you not do.

mostly office jobs, for sure (which is the majority of people). and it's not a term for hating you job. I don't hate my job. my department just suffers from poor leadership. If I can weather that storm, and leadership changes, then great. Until then, I'm not breaking my back for a couple of assholes who aren't willing to break their own first. as leaders should do. I've been through good bosses and bad bosses over 20 years. retirements, turnover, you name it. And if leadership doesn't change, I do my best to influence change where I can affect it. Working OT/killing yourself every day is an old school way of moving up/gaining respect. I don't buy into that mentality. I used to.

100%. And yes, the whole concept is incredibly old school. Times they are a' changin', and thank god for that in this context. Bosses have to earn respect just as much as anyone else does these days - they can no longer just depend on their title to make workers bend over backwards for them, and force workers to crawl over each others' backs to win a race. Workers are sick of that shit, and I don't blame them. It's bullshit.

Well that would be the fire department not hiring enough firefighters, and the existing firefighters asked to pick up extra shifts (above and beyond a full time job) without end in sight to pick up the slack from not hiring enough staff. Thus putting out all the fires that occur on their shift, maybe even more, plus fires that occur after their regular shifts. Firefighter burns out and says they'll only work their regular hours and put out the fires that occur doing those hours.

They aren't slacking, there just not going the extra mile.
