Quiet Quitting

The places have to run 7 days a week so in a given month there’s a day or two max that others haven’t asked off that I can take. I didn’t say it because I don’t believe it, folks should get time off. In 12 years of owning multiple restaurants I’ve never, not once, told someone they can’t have requested time off- I fill their void. I’ve cancelled several family vacations over the years because others asked for the same time off. I wouldn’t ever work corporate, just because it’s cushy. That’s a cop out. If your body works, you should work as hard as it can handle, and sitting at a desk on the internet isn’t as hard as it can handle. I worked 90 hour weeks before i owned my own businesses by the way, that’s probably what got me into ownership: I was offered opportunities after working with a few James beard chefs and showing up before them and leaving after them. I only posted to say my experience, not to attack you. We’re not the same, we see things differently. That’s ok. The world functions perfectly fine with people of all kinds.
Working a ridiculous amount of hours with little or no time off to enjoy life and or family is not necessarily a good thing.
Now I work a job I enjoy with bosses I like and I can travel and see the world as I see fit.
If you're happy working 100 hours or more a week great. But there is a lot being missed
Anywho, when I became a Superintendent for the same company I conducted myself the complete opposite way he did. So working under him made me a great super because he taught me everything not to do.
My men under me would say that they weren't making as much money but their quality of life was better. I knew I was doing the right thing.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

I'm still not sure why it's called quitting, when people are basically just doing their job for the hours they get paid to do it. Isn't that still working and doing your job?

The term confused me too. At first I assumed it meant not doing your job until your boss notices and fires you, and just see how long you can get away with it. Some people might be able to for a while. But when I read it and saw it just means the bare minimum, that's different.
To me, doing the bare minimum is still doing your job and doing what you're paid to do. Its just not going over and beyond. Like in teaching for example, we have teachers who show up and do a great job teaching every day, but refuse to do all the extra crap that is thrown at us. Like cover other classes on our off period because there are no subs. That's only been a thing the last several years, sub pay is terrible and we get unfilled positions every day, so other teachers have to cover on their plan period. About half do, and half refuse. It sucks because the ones who don't refuse have to cover twice as often, but at the same time I get it, it isn't part of my job description, it isn't my responsibility to make sure there is an adult in the math room. Its not my fault they pay subs about $80 a day for a crao job and no one wants to do it. I was promised plan time, its in my contract, but teachers who haven't been here 10 years usually feel obligated to do it when asked.0 -

In our office (accounting firm) it's the people that suddenly take 1.5 hours to perform a task that normally takes 45 minutes. They are surfing the net, facebooking, etc. Instead of getting their work done and being proactive about making their work lives easier they slack and put it off to later.Remember the Thomas Nine !! again, it's just called quiet "quitting" as to make it an easy term to remember, with the double Q. just a buzzphrase to describe a trend.
all it means is, you are "quitting" going over and above. you are "quitting" killing yourself every day for the same compensation/benefits as when you had less work.

They should be more quiet about it. People would assume they are just bad at their jobs and not a bunch of tankers.
I just don't understand the need to make up silly terms for everything these days. Seems to be to try and give things more gravitas.

I wouldn’t be able to quiet quit no matter how much I hate my job. My conscience would bother me if I slacked off to much. Sure, I have my moments, like yesterday when i was watching the speaker votes come in, but I take too much pride in my work. The slackers always seem to find their way out the door and most time without any sort of compensation. We have a shop full of quiet quitters and I can’t fucking stand them. I told the boss man the other day, “can we please hire some immigrants that would appreciate their jobs.” People are unhappy or unsatisfied with their own lives and the decisions they have made and they want to blame the employer or the “other”. I just keep my head down and do the best I can do. I do try to go above and beyond in a lot of things and it has paid off for me. Every situation is different so I can only speak for myself. Work Hard, Play Hard.

I don't get this part. Is it slacking, or is it not going the extra mile? IE you do your job and get it done, but you don't take on extra stuff, don't work free over time (or paid OT) stuff like that?Employers do seem over the years to have squeezed more and more out of employees, so I'm not sure of quiet quitting actually means slacking, or if it means just doing your job, but not going the extra mile?0
