All the original poster was trying to say is that Pearl Jam has turned into corporate America, something they used to despise. I think his point is valid. I only care about the music so i could care less if the tour is sponsored or not I just want to see them perform.0

The original post needs to realize that in 1992 the way you got an album was to buy the cassette or CD---there was no illegal downloading.0

no, the orginal poster needs to realize that this tour isn't "Sponsored by Verizon" at all. all Verizon is doing is digital bootlegs. but I'm sure dozens in this thread have already explained that to him2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. Hear. Now. 2022: Camden, 2024: Philly 2, 2025: Pittsburgh 1

You mean like n 1990, when they signed with Sony, which, last I checked, is a fairly sizeable corporation?
I think the band realizes what most of you other left-wing crazies don't: Evil corporations are evil because they are evil, not because they are a corporation.
Just being "Corporate" doesn't make you evil. In fact, one could argue that Pearl Jam itself is a corporation.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

Get your facts straight next time before you spew false crap like that again about Obama, who you apparently know very little about.0 -
Bottom line is, nothing is sacred. Integrity is dead and it's every man for himself in these modern times. Atleast we'll have the music, everything else is jack off fodder.0

Would that last line be such an inaccurate description of Ed himself in his worst moments?... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0 -
chromiam wrote:where does it say anywhere that PJ is sponsored by Verizon???
And how do you know that PJ management wasn't throwing around the idea of doing digital cell phone downloads and profiled the cell companies and decided that Verizon had the best infrastructure to deliver their idea?? And then THEY went to Verizon with the concept and idea??? It would follow along with the other bootleg and music distribution ideas that the band and management had previously come up with and used.
Between this statement from Verizon:
“Pearl Jam has long been at the forefront of generations of talented artists taking action and speaking out on what’s important to them, and mobile technology is a large part of that movement...fans can download music, win tickets to the show and now get the world’s first mobile bootlegs from this legendary band.”
and the one from Tim, about how the band continues to explore new way to get their music out there, i don't know why people don't understand pearl jam would need to partner up with SOMEONE in order to do this. they are looking for new things to give us and all some people can do is complain.slightofjeff wrote:You mean like n 1990, when they signed with Sony, which, last I checked, is a fairly sizeable corporation?

Why do those statements not convince me? Because I learned not to believe everything I read in a press release -- a valuable skill in this world. I think it's obvious I'm in the vast minority when I say I'm bothered by the Verizon deal. But lets just remember that Pearl Jam is being used to promote Verizon just as much as Verizon is being used to deliver music. You have to have a Verizon account and a phone with V-cast to hear these tracks, right? So lets stop with this bullshit about bringing the music to as many fans as possible.
If you're OK with the Verizon deal, that's fine, but at least acknowledge that the real reason for this partnership is money. It might be that the only reason we're getting boots at all this tour is because the Verizon deal made it financially possible. If that's the case, I wish the Ten Club would tell us the truth. I think we've earned that much.*Does not include encore of Garden and Leash.0 -

It is low class. I agree."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -

Earned what??? Earned the right to have the band go over every decision they make about THEIR band with you??? Earned the right to question and 2nd guess every decision and its outcome??? Earned the right to have decisions explained to you and the reasons for the those decisions??? The only thing any of us have earned is the right to listen to this band, in whatever form we choose. That's it!!! However the band decides to promote, expand, or present itself is their decision... all we can do is listen and support, or question and bitch. Either way, as is said around here quite often, if you don't like it, show the courage of your convictions and stop listening to and following the band. If not, then enjoy the ride. This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

Good call, meme! I was just about to type the same thing. I think "judgemental little person with a huge sense of self-righteousness" fits Vedder to a T during a lot of his rants on and offstage."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -

So even if Pearl Jam is being used to promote Verizon so what? What is the worst possible thing that can happen with respect to that deal? Even if the band sold Alive for a Viagra commercial would that automatically make Alive a bad song? Although I kind of doubt that story is true since there is no way any US network would show a commercial with a singing cock, considering how much of a flip out there was about Janet Jacksons boob.
And even if it is about the money who cares, last time I checked being in a band was their job. I don't work for free just because I love my job, do you? Plus what do people think all those T-shirts, baby onesies and stickers in the goods store (not to mention every CD they ever released) are for? It is to make money of course.0 -

It would be nice if the vast minority could at least verbalize why. And the fact that "Verizon is a corporation" isn't a viable argument.everybody wants the most they can possibly get
