you can thank vedhead27 and myself for Mike showing up, we brought mad karma to the show, and my karma ladin vote for change hat that I hadn't worn for two years, since Mike signed it during a song on stage (CCFA Flight to Mars show).

the Sean Penn song and roast was great, berkeley one was one of the big disappontments for Ed, college campus, in berkeley, and you can't get anyone to sing along to a protest song...then he said it must have been all the young republicans in the audience, so it ripped into Masters of War, and when completed, said something to the effect that all the young republicans should be gone now.

Jerry Hannah was there for Society, and him and Ed traded off versus during the entire song, very nice.

Oh, Liams set with the lovely EJ was spectacular. they punked out one of the songs at the end, and both lost a nail, EJ ripped it all the way off and disregarded the blood, Liam was a wimp, lol ... but made up for it by making up a new punk song about him and EJ losing a nail :)

not sure how many ends this show had, but everytime you thought it was done another guitar, another chair showed up on stage.

the stories Ed shared were very cool, especially the one about the bear and his daughter. Oh, and who knew babies get high when breat feeding (why'd I ever stop), he said a woman was breast feeding at the show last night and he thought it was cool that a baby was tripping during his show (Ed said it better, didn't sound wrong, lol)

Mike McCready carted onto the stage because Ed had Matt's drumsticks in one of his cases, Jeff's rug, one of Ed's favorite accoustic guitars for the last 11 yrs was actually Stones, and now that Mike was there, he covered all his bases.

yellow ledbetter was great, started with Liam on drums, ended with Ed on drums, then Ed on drums for All Along the Watchtower.

truly one of the most amazing concert experiences of my life, and I've had a few.

thank you all that attended and shared your energy and voice.
THANK YOU beach & lyd!!! 2 of the coolest frenz EVER!!! :D

Plugged. YL and All Along...were so fucking raw. Liam was killer on drums. Then Liam and Ed switched places and Ed began drumming and Liam was playing Ed's guitar. Stellar. One in a million experience.

  • Hey guys!! This is my first time posting, and I'm thrilled that my first time is with the news that I finally got to meet Ed after the show!!! I got a hug and an autograph, he was super sweet and seemed happy to be out there and to see everybody.

I've loved Pearl Jam since I was in sixth grade back in '92, and I've seen them more than I can keep track of. Out of all the times I've tried to meet the guys, it never happened or I'd come close, but I've had great encounters during shows.

So last night was incredibly special, to meet Ed after a phenominal night. This is also all the more special to me because my dad just passed away unexpectedly end of March, so this has been a very sad time for me. Me and dad shared a love for music, and especially Pearl jam. He was the one supposed to come with me to all the Northern Cali shows. But he was there with me in spirit the whole time. Listening to Peal Jam/Ed will always be a way for me to celebrate my dad, my best friend.

Everything about the set was amazing, I was glad the crowd finally gave it their all with singing--Eddie deserves to hear us honor him, as we should all be extremely proud to be His fans, and Pearl Jam's. Sean Peen and Co were sitting two rows behind us, I glimpsed him on the way to our seats, and got to see him go out to the bus to hang out with Ed--very cool!! And Mike coming out!!!!! I was hoping we'd see him since Eddie had us sing to him in Santa Cruz, he *hinted* that Mike would hear us. There is nobody like Mike!!!

Ok, my first post has turned into a novel, so I shall cap it off by saying thanks to everyone who has showed Eddie so much love while on this tour, hopefully he'll do it again!!!

Oh yeah, and I scored a Zippo on night 2.

Ed said something to the effect that after tonight, we are going back to 90 min shows, we are setting bad precedent...

Welcome, LoveISaTower, that was one beautiful first post! I'm right there with you loving the shows. Saw SC and Berk 1. Can't BELIEVE I didn't stay around for BERK 2 and missed what sounds like the best one yet.

On to San Diego next week. I'll be standing up and singing No More LOUD. I hope everyone there will join me.

Mike McCready! Mike Fuckin’ McCready!! What can you say!!! How special was his appearance tonight!!!!

Going into my shows I would have been more then happy with just Ed. After all as far as I was concerned this tour was a long time coming and I wanted my Eddie Vedder campfire songs.

But there he was “the fuckin' master” wheeled out on a dolly, dressed casual sporting a fishing hat. He waved, bowed, grabbed Ed’s white Strat, sat down on a folding chair to Ed’s left, just behind him. With Liam Finn on drums and Ed on acoustic guitar they start into Yellow Ledbetter which sounded completely amazing and absolutely beautiful in this venue. Mike ripped a slow sweet soulful solo at the end and just when we though “that’s it” (and totally would have left satisfied) they immediately start into “All Along The Watchtower”. Yeah, all I’ll say is this song had the shit rocked out of it by Ed, Mike and Liam. All performing to the max and towards the end of the song Ed switched instruments with Liam and rocked the drum kit for a bit. Finishing the song that was it, sadly the party was now over. Time to go home and try to digest and come down from this incredible music induced high.
HELL YES!!!!! NICE job reporting this!!! i wasnt there so im gladd to read some exxxcitement FINALLY!!!! :D

  • out of the three northern cali shows this was by far the best. the whole night was intense.....what an awesome thing for sean penn and mcready to show up.....

i would say santa cruz 2nd and berk1 definetly last, though i did like if you want to sing out......the crowd sucked night 1 at berk.

last night was cool when ed played soon forget, i'm wondering if he was dedicating that song to sean and robyn penn? he dedicated it to a couple, just wondered who.

i think also everyone that wasn't there should know just how awesome the sound was in zellerbach. In all honesty, i've only been to 6 pj/ed shows but that sound was simply amazing. i felt like ed is really doing into the wild justice it so deserves.

it was awesome to meet new pearl jam friends as well.....

Yeah, as someone who is a bit of an audiophile and affectionado -- the Zellerbach Sound Rocked! This is no mean feat! Think about it, it's utterly quiet and soft uke or mandolin one moment, you could hear a pin-drop solo over some of Ed's playin! Shiver at his whisper-voice....

And then like I Am Mine and Millworker, the songs rise and fall from exceedingly quiet to howls. And then Big Hard Sun with drums and tape loop just rocking. Full dynamics. (Don't even ask, Watchtower was THUMPING!)

Strings on his acoustics just shimmering through the PA, nice vibrant and crisp. Some of his strumming (again, Millworker and I Am Mine) woulda put some of the fastest megadeath to shame!

The big fat strat sound on Dead Man Walking just a funeral dirge, a beautiful pipe-organ of a fat sound just washing over us.

SC I was direct center, mid orchastra and it was nice. Berk1 I was in front of the left PA, 3rd Row and even from there I noticed it was sweeter.

Last night Dead Center, 21 Rows Back -- perfect! Amazing. A brain melter!

    OMG ARC!!!!

  • I agree with everyone in this thread - it was an amazing, unforgettable show. I have been to 12 PJ shows, but my wife (who was with me last night) has only been to a few. What stuck out in her mind was how emotional Ed was. We were lucky enough to get seats up close, and you could see him moved to tears on a couple occasions, especially after singing No More. He had to wipe his eyes a few times and take a minute to regroup. What amazing passion from an incredible person. All right, I know I'm preaching to the choir, just had to throw my 2 cents in....

Dude! I was totally thinking that! Monday night all 10C insiders up close, plus lots of guests I'm thinking, from you know, "the biz." Versus tuesday's great unwashed hoarde, totally different vibe, i'm thinking people were even more plowed on a tues night (I was).

but nah -- 10C farthest was maybe Row L so that's only first 15-20 rows? But YES, those first rows can be instrumental in setting the vibe for the entire hall!

I actually was digging that the whole fourth row center looked like faculty on Monday. Someone's grandparent's? Family? The movie money men and their wives? I dunno -- they were tapping their toes and shaking their jewelry -- but hadda be a bit of a buzzkill!

Whereas I had the sweetest older lady in front of me, who came with her daughter. Turned out no, MOM was the big fan too, she'd seen the U2 opener, all three SF06 shows! She was great to chat with! So I don't wanna jump to conclusions....

I suspect some of this is also that MANY 10C tix were split, 3 different couples around me were split into singles!?!?!? Another Buzzkill -- and honestly, I was on good behavior myself as I had just met a 10C member who gave me my ticket on monday. Duo's meeting up who don't "really" know one another and are ya know, being polite not to scream into their new friends ear?

I am not going to say Berkeley 1 sucked or anything -- FAR from it. It was what it was, it was serene, lots of dedications. Sing if you want to sing! He didn't say we HAD to!

But I will say that Berkeley 2 was simply one of the best concerts I've ever seen in 24 years!!!!

  • From mercurynews.com

    >Are Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn back together?

    >That seemed possible Wednesday when TV show "Extra" reported that divorce proceedings between the longtime couple had been called off.

    >That came a day after the pair attended an Eddie Vedder concert at UC Berkeley together, and Sean Penn reportedly went on stage to dedicate a song to his maybe-not-so-estranged wife. There was no word on what the song was, but our guess is it wasn't "Better Man."

...I just thought the last line was funny.
  • on monday I was 4th row on mike's side and I can tell you that there were some fans there, but some people weren't into it.

I think 10c members are no better than TM people either, it could of been a bad bunch in the front, or the people yelling yesterday (that clearly pissed of ed)...but I'd never say one crowd was better than another.

Last night was amazing, also amazing was storytellers (10c) and msg '03 (at least 3,000 10c members)...might be luck of the draw, might be how ed's feeling that night...whatever it was, it was great!
