P.s. I enjoyed your tidbit on meeting ed! :)

I'm speechless about the whole thing, I even knew he'd be there (chiqimonkey saw him earlier that day) I kept it a secret from my husband and our friends)

fucking awesome. I also was waiting for ed after the show but I guess he was busy with sean pean and only came out for a fraction of a second but the crew gave us pizza.

the show was awesome, mike was awesome, ed was awesome and I'm awesomely tired so I'm going back to bed

from the other thread too: :)

    what a great night.

ed was definitely a bit on the hammered side - he came out saying he was kind of "depressed - since its not professional to say hungover". Said he was up late talking to Echol's wife the night before, getting angry at the injustice of the system, most likely DRINKING his anger away. He seemed waaay more comfortable tonite, more in his element, maybe due some vino? He went into this long tirade on torture museums in Amsterdam. Why did he go on this rant .....I have no idea. he described one form of torture where people had to sit on a big wooden thing that had a sharp edge and the torturors would put heavy weights on their legs and as the weights dropped the person would slowly be sliced in two. It was pretty gruesome - this was before his pain pills kicked in later in the set
    :)

Right before I'm Open he made comments about how some people might think the song has to do with wanting a relationship, maybe a relationship with a woman or maybe with something "just below a woman - god". It was super sweet. He talked about his little girl as well, how she loves to listen to his music and dance around.

He seems to be on great terms with Sean Penn, invited him out on stage and shared some wine and a smoke with him, then sang him a song he wrote for him the day after he met him. It was great - Sean said something like Ed has the soul he aspires to have. Next came McCready and they ROCKED watchtower.

    wow

    :O

Quote of the night - "Why is it the people who don't believe in evolution always look the least evolved?" (he gave credit to Bill Hicks)

My only beef was with idiotic comments and screaming from the crowd, which he was really patient with, and all the camera flashes during the first song. WTF???

Ed was popping pain meds? Good for him.

About the drumming circle, on Monday he said he could hear it all day just outside his backstage area and it was the worst drumming ever…“must be freshman.” Was a running joke all during Monday’s show. So Tuesday after "Around The Bend" he announces his hangover… and that the drumming was back today. I’m like “Oh Shit, were in trouble tonight.” Nothing could have been further from the truth.

    ~

Can’t remember before which song but Ed dedicated the song to a “couple present tonight,” and then went on to say it would be ok with him "if any couple in attendance wanted to they could go ahead and claim the dedication.”

Later when Sean Penn came out for the encore Ed poured a couple glasses of wine and they shared a smoke and a drink. Ed stated, "on stage was the only place in the venue someone could smoke.” After toasting each other Sean came to the mike and wished “Robin” a Happy Birthday and said she too was in attendance.”

For “Broken Hearted” Ed wished this on no one.

    ~

Before “Pulling Into Santa Cruz” Ed remarked how this venue was “perhaps the best sounding venue he has ever preformed in.” So it was decided the next song (“Pulling Into Santa Cruz” ) would be recorded and he asked us to help by singing strong on the chorus “Pulling Into Santa Cruz”.

    ~

Mike McCready! Mike Fuckin’ McCready!! What can you say!!! How special was his appearance tonight!!!!

Going into my shows I would have been more then happy with just Ed. After all as far as I was concerned this tour was a long time coming and I wanted my Eddie Vedder campfire songs.

But there he was “the fuckin' master” wheeled out on a dolly, dressed casual sporting a fishing hat. He waved, bowed, grabbed Ed’s white Strat, sat down on a folding chair to Ed’s left, just behind him. With Liam Finn on drums and Ed on acoustic guitar they start into Yellow Ledbetter which sounded completely amazing and absolutely beautiful in this venue. Mike ripped a slow sweet soulful solo at the end and just when we though “that’s it” (and totally would have left satisfied) they immediately start into “All Along The Watchtower”. Yeah, all I’ll say is this song had the shit rocked out of it by Ed, Mike and Liam. All performing to the max and towards the end of the song Ed switched instruments with Liam and rocked the drum kit for a bit. Finishing the song that was it, sadly the party was now over. Time to go home and try to digest and come down from this incredible live music induced high.

Huge thank you to all involved (especially Ed) for rocking my world these last few days. Bay Area friends are the worlds best! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

And to those whom did not think Ed solo would be worth the expense and journey :D SUCKERS :p

    ~

btw, at the end of the show Ed said to tell ya “after tonight he's back to 90 minute shows.” Sorry folks Bay Area Rules!!

    ~

My Ed quotes are paraphrased. Best i can recall.

I was at the Bear's Lair before Ed came on and met some guy who came all the way from Philly to see Ed play. He repeated that Matt Chord mentioned Brendan O'Brien would produce the next album.

It was an awsome show. Eddie really did seem grateful to everyone for singing No More. He said it was the loudest he's heard people sing the chorus in the United States.

I was pretty surprised when Sean Penn came on stage, especially since Eddie was mockingly ripping Penn earlier in the night, good thing Sean isn't here tonight (Penn was there with his son the night before) and NO YOUTUBING. Penn was there last night with his wife, Robin. I think Eddie said happy birthday to her?

While the Penn appearance was comic relief, I was shocked and stoked that Mike showed up. The Yellow Ledbetter performance was awsome, especially when Eddie started drumming towards the end.

You could really feel Ed's love for Pearl Jam, and it showed even more when Mike appeared. I think the love is gonna make for an awsome new record.

So no one has stories about Ed from after the show? His bus was right behind the theater. There was also a sick motorcycle right next to the bus.

ok why is no one talking about how fucking hard mike, liam and ed rocked all along the watchtower??!

    it was fucking awesome!

Uh, because Ed totally flubbed the lines to it? hehehe.
He interspersed parts of the 2nd verse into the 1st verse and kinda did his own thing with the 2nd verse all together. And a lot of the "two riders were approaching...."

But yes, that was some serious shredding, Mike standing up and going to lean into the amplifier. A chaotic cacophany one might say! Mike was ripping up on the strat, ed was on acoustic just jamming, Liam flailing on the drums, tech had to come out and hand him a wayward drumstick -- and then Ed and Liam swapped! Talk about a jam! Just like in the garage!

Chills -- we talked about Gimmie Some Truth, Dock on they Bay, what they would play in the Bay, what nod they'd give us, and now twice in a row ('06 and now) this is how you end three shows in NorCal! Watchtower!!!

    Works for me!!!

You're not kidding! Last night was one of those "special" nights that are only felt (at least by me) after certain PJ shows. Everything was perfect and I would be surprised if Ed could top it the rest of the tour. But here's to hoping he does!!

Yeah, I know what you mean..I always think at PJ show, wow, this one was amazing. And somehow the next one is not better but different...The show(s) you go to are always special to you for different reasons...
This was a great performance, from what I got reading the fanviews, but you never know what' hes got up his sleeve for next shows. Guess will have to wait and see. Or read about it :o

Reading all this about shows makes me so proud to be a Pearl Jam fan and makes me appreciate Ed even more...(like I'm not crazy about him anyways, lol)

Ok, I'll stop polluting the fanview thread now, sorry. Carry on. Wanna hear MORE :)

  • Epic show. Everything about it was 20x better than Monday. Ed's voice, crowd, setlist, Ed's mood, McCready cameo....

Ed seems to be picking up steam as the tour rolls on. Be ready, SoCal! Bring your voices....the more vocal the crowd is (sing, don't yell shit out! please!), the more Ed gets into it, and the better the show is.

If 4/8 was recorded, we're all in for a treat.

you can thank vedhead27 and myself for Mike showing up, we brought mad karma to the show, and my karma ladin vote for change hat that I hadn't worn for two years, since Mike signed it during a song on stage (CCFA Flight to Mars show).

the Sean Penn song and roast was great, berkeley one was one of the big disappontments for Ed, college campus, in berkeley, and you can't get anyone to sing along to a protest song...then he said it must have been all the young republicans in the audience, so it ripped into Masters of War, and when completed, said something to the effect that all the young republicans should be gone now.

Jerry Hannah was there for Society, and him and Ed traded off versus during the entire song, very nice.

Oh, Liams set with the lovely EJ was spectacular. they punked out one of the songs at the end, and both lost a nail, EJ ripped it all the way off and disregarded the blood, Liam was a wimp, lol ... but made up for it by making up a new punk song about him and EJ losing a nail :)

not sure how many ends this show had, but everytime you thought it was done another guitar, another chair showed up on stage.

the stories Ed shared were very cool, especially the one about the bear and his daughter. Oh, and who knew babies get high when breat feeding (why'd I ever stop), he said a woman was breast feeding at the show last night and he thought it was cool that a baby was tripping during his show (Ed said it better, didn't sound wrong, lol)

Mike McCready carted onto the stage because Ed had Matt's drumsticks in one of his cases, Jeff's rug, one of Ed's favorite accoustic guitars for the last 11 yrs was actually Stones, and now that Mike was there, he covered all his bases.

yellow ledbetter was great, started with Liam on drums, ended with Ed on drums, then Ed on drums for All Along the Watchtower.

truly one of the most amazing concert experiences of my life, and I've had a few.

thank you all that attended and shared your energy and voice.

What's to say? Beside the final cheer at the end of the shows, McCready got by far the loudest welcome of all three bay shows. The place went nuts, just crazy, buzz just skyrocketed -- Ed had mentioned the band a couple of times, how appreciative he was of their support throughout.

McCready came out with a lab coat on, a hat, wheeled in by a roadie on a handcart/dolly. "I called up to Seattle and had them FedEx something down. It's kinda big, Oh well. Just wheel it out here!"

And then just straight into Ledbetter, McCready was on a yellow strat I think, not the his usual one I don't think, but delicious. Really nice sound. OH The House Lights Came on as Well (of course) and we were all singing along (message received). Ed accompanyed wonderfully on acoustic, Liam on drums. Mike was shredding, just F***** shredding.

Ed said something quiet between songs, not sure, "lets end it here." and instantly into Watchtower, ed began on acoustic, mike picked up rhythm on the strat, ed solo'd the harmonica lead in! And then the leads after each verse were just epic. Wailing. WAILING!

And it's all just ripping and suddenly Ed stands up, drops guitar and swaps with Liam on the drums! Liam begins to shread the acoustic, Mike's now standing crouched over Ed's amp and just tearing it up.
